Esteno?Grafia!

    No full text
Taking into account the scarcity of information and the lack of knowledge in general regarding Portuguese stenography, since it is not commonly used nowadays in daily or academic contexts, and also given the decreasing number of people who hold this specifi c knowledge (stenographers, people specialized in this activity, students or simply curious) it becomes increasingly urgent the preservation and recovery of a relevant bibliographic archive in Portuguese of a writing system almost in extinction. Thus, the present study aims at recovering and reinterpreting the universe of stenography and the concise and effi cient forms of writing with its consequent application in current contexts and technologies. The inclusion and recovery of these so-called obsolete writing methods allows not only the preservation of history but also intends to better understand the past. With this, we use a non-interventionist qualitative methodology, by means of research, review and critique of latent literature in archives, libraries in parallel with interviews with former teachers and students of shorthand. Subsequently, a qualitative interventionist methodology was used with the goal of creating a support that compiles all the information regarding Portuguese stenography as a way of spreading knowledge and preserving this almost extinct technology

Acknowledgements We would like to give special thanks to the computer engineers (Hugo Freire and Dany Mota) who developed the VR platform software. Moreover, we would like to thank the participants who participated in the usability tests and who provided us with valuable feedback to improve the VR platform.Article number - 15942Cognitive deficits have been shown to increase the likelihood of relapse in individuals with substance use disorders (SUD). As such, cognitive training programs are important interventions for this population. In this study, we describe the development and test the usability of a virtual reality (VR)-based cognitive training program for individuals with SUD – VRainSUD. A total of 17 patients receiving inpatient treatment for SUD at an Addiction Treatment Center agreed to participate in the study. Participants completed 9 tasks designed to test the platform’s usability. The key performance indicators (e.g., time to complete the task) as well as any relevant observations were recorded. Finally, each participant completed a brief survey and the Post-Study System Usability Questionnaire (PSSUQ). VRainSUD was considered easy and pleasant to use but additional instructions were required on certain cognitive training tasks. The total PSSUQ score confirmed an overall high level of satisfaction concerning the platform’s usability (2.72 ± 1.92). Among the three subscales, system usefulness presented the most satisfactory score (1.76 ± 1.37) and information quality presented the least satisfactory score (3.00 ± 1.95). Changes were made to the platform to improve the on-screen information and instructions. Overall, participants showed interest in integrating VRainSUD into their standard treatment. Despite limited prior VR experience, they quickly adapted to the controllers and navigation. VRainSUD can be a potentially successful add-on to SUD treatment

This paper reports on the entire process developed during the internship, by carrying out a critical-reflective analysis on the development of the common and specific competences of nurses specializing in Community Nursing, in the area of Community Health and Public Health and the implementation of the community intervention project “ENGAGE24”, included in the specific competence of health planning. The “ENGAGE24” project, as a continuation of the “ENGAGE23” project, followed the health planning methodology of Imperatori & Giraldes (1993) and focused on empowering the Indian immigrant community living in the Municipality of Marinha Grande, in terms of their attitude towards their state of health and illness, associated with their culture. Its guiding theoretical references were the Theory of Diversity and Universality of Cultural Care and the Model of Evaluation, Intervention and Community Empowerment (MAIEC). To support this project, an Integrative Literature Review was carried out. The overall aim of the project was to improve the Community Management of Indian immigrants in terms of their attitude to health and illness. Using the non-probabilistic sampling method, the sample consisted of 5 Indian immigrants living in the municipality of Marinha Grande. The application of the MAIEC Community Process Diagnostic Questionnaire made it possible to prioritize the nursing diagnosis “Compromised community leadership, due to knowledge about the attitude towards the state of health-disease, associated with culture, not demonstrated”. In order to increase the immigrants' level of knowledge a health education session was structured and implemented and an information guide was given. To evaluate the effect of the intervention, a questionnaire was administered to assess their knowledge before and after the session, with an improvement of 25.7% in the number of correct answers. In addition, the MAIEC questionnaire was reapplied, which revealed a slight increase of 6% in the dimension of identified nursing diagnosis. In order to assess the community empowerment of Indian immigrants, the EAvEC Scale was applied through a Focus Group with stakeholders, showing a slight improvement on the results obtained in the evaluation of the scale carried out in “ENGAGE23”. Considering the small size of the sample, which is not representative of this population, it is not possible to conclude on the impact of the intervention on community empowerment

Qualitative Research: The Heart of Evidence-Based Practice

The authors express their gratitude to the scientific committee of WCQR for selecting this article for possible publication in the International Journal of Qualitative Methods.Article number - 16094069251374655Evidence-based practice in healthcare remains challenging. The sheer volume of studies, methodological diversity, scarce resources, and professionals’ difficulties in locating, appraising, and implementing evidence all contribute. In addition, there is often a lack of clear, evidence-based health-policy guidelines. In addition, there is a predominant positivist paradigm in the training of most health professionals, which makes it challenging to introduce the results of qualitative studies into practice. We believe that qualitative research provides a unique insight into the experiences, needs, difficulties, and choices of people going through transitions between health and illness. This is a theoretical paper based on a narrative literature review, the authors aim to reflect on the results of qualitative healthcare research, the difficulties in translating the knowledge obtained by more constructivist and interpretative methods, and the gains that can be made from an Evidence-Based Practice supported by the results of qualitative studies that make it possible to respect the patient’s values and preferences, allowing person-centered care. Studies that enable the exploration of experiences, perspectives, and meanings in complex areas, such as self-care, behavioral change, and adherence to therapeutic regimens, support health professionals’ clinical decision-making. This support reflects the multifaceted nature of human experiences in care settings and is vital for understanding phenomena both in isolation and in relation to other research approaches. Qualitative studies are the heart of evidence-based practice because they deepen and individualize knowledge about phenomena and make it possible to focus care on people, especially those with increased vulnerability. The author(s) disclosed receipt of the following financial support for the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article: The present study was funded by the Center for Research, Innovation, and Development in Nursing, in Portugal, by means of grants provided to some of the authors (CIDNUR, Psafe2transition_2021)

Camadas de Mim – do Arquivo ao Autorretrato

    No full text
This project aims to present a self-portrait of my identity and my intimacy through photography. Regardless of photography’s vocation to register the exteriority of reality, it can indirectly imply the interiority and the human psychology; if photography keeps us at the surface of things, it is possible, however, to use procedures like montage to create deep unexpected connections between images and try to go beyond the external representations. With this investigation through artistic practice, this project ends with a photographic object which presents my existence as a compost of interior and exterior layers that, in some way, represent me. The object’s format is an atlas, and it is a cut in my own personal and familiar archive, in a way, and a staging and construction of a portrait of my intimacy, in another, in which I undertake ways of self-representation and self-enactment. It establishes itself as a possible open answer to the question “Who am I?”, portrays as a more embracing questioning about the relation between self-portrait and the photographic medium and about gender identity and its relevance to clarify other many questions that pass off from the first: How can intimacy be accessed and shared? What can it tell us about ourselves and our own identity? How can it relate to other subjectification processes, such as the ones associated with the affirmation of a queer identity

Point Cloud Alignment for Deposited Material Assessment in Tunnel Environments

keywords provenientes de ieee.Conference name 30th ICE IEEE/ITMC Conference on Engineering, Technology, and Innovation, ICE/ITMC 2024, FunchalConference date 24 June 2024 - 28 June 2024The assessment of deposited material in tunnel reinforcement operations can be performed using a 3D model generated from multiple scans. For this purpose, an accurate alignment of the scanned models is required. Aligning existing structure model with data scanned after surface deformations can be challenging, particularly if reference markers are not available or were displaced. For scenarios where the surrounding structure is largely changed, certain procedures can be adapted when processing the scanned data to achieve consistent alignment between scanned and reference structure models. This work proposes a methodology to cope with these situations, analysing the impact of different approaches. Experiments were performed in a realistic scenario related with shotcrete of railway tunnels wall surfaces, with the results showing the applicability of the developed work. The proposed procedure relies in highlighting the importance of specific points that describe the same feature in the reference and aligning PC. The proposed methodology achieved an RMS difference of 0.0173 m, which lead to a drastic improvement in the point cloud alignment compared to the use of standard ICP algorithm without data preprocessing, which achieved 0.0518 m in the studied use-case.Funding Agency: 10.13039/100016077-NextGeneration EU Funds 10.13039/100006129-Fundação para a Ciência e a TecnologiaFunding text This work has been supported by Project n 49, INOV.AM - Innovation in Additive Manufacturing co-funded by Recovery and Resilience Plan and NextGeneration EU Funds, www.recuperarportugal.gov.pt. Electromyographic activity of shoulder muscles on two preventive exercise programmes for swimmer’s shoulder: elastic band versus weight

    No full text
Strength programmes have shown good results in preventing swimmer’s shoulder. However, there aren’t studies based on electromyographic (EMG) analysis in these programmes. This study aims to compare an EMG activity of the middle trapezius (MT), lower trapezius (LT), infraspinatus (IS), serratus anterior (SA), and pectoralis major (PM) in two swimmer’s shoulder preventive programmes – one performed with elastic band and the other with weights. Twenty competitive swimmers performed two strength programmes consisting of five exercises each, while the analysis of EMG activity in MT, LT, IS, SA, and PM for each exercise was recorded. The superficial EMG was used to collect data at a sampling frequency of 1000 hz. The Paired Sample T-test or the Wilcoxon test was applied to compare EMG activity between programmes. The internal rotation at 90º (p < 0.001) and external rotation at 90º (p ≤ 0.01) exercises produced high myoelectric shoulder muscle activity with an elastic band. Conversely, scapular punches (p < 0.001) exercise has high shoulder EMG activity when performed with weights. Performing the same preventive exercise programme with two different instruments produces great variability in the myoelectric activity of the shoulder muscles.M.A.C. acknowledge the support of the Centre for Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Processes – CEMMPRE of the University of Coimbra, which is sponsored by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) (UIDB/00285/2020, LA/P/0112/2020). Assessment of potentially motivating factors to follow time-restricted eating protocols in a population of adults living in Portugal

    No full text
Article number - 101242Chrononutrition is a growing field that has been attracting significant attention for its potential benefits in metabolic health and body weight regulation. Among chrononutrition strategies, time-restricted eating (TRE) is the most extensively investigated approach in clinical studies. TRE intends to synchronise eating and fasting cycles with the human circadian rhythms. However, larger and longer randomised clinical trials are still needed to establish the effectiveness and long-term health outcomes of TRE interventions. Furthermore, it is crucial to explore whether individuals in free-living conditions, outside controlled clinical settings, can successfully adopt TRE principles into their daily routines to achieve potential health benefits. This study aimed to investigate the association between daily routines and potential adherence to TRE protocols, as well as to identify factors that can potentially predict adherence to these protocols in a sample of adults living in Portugal. A cross-sectional study was conducted using an online questionnaire to assess dietary and sleeping habits, daily routines and the likelihood of adherence to various restrictions in daily eating windows. Associations between variables were analysed using the Spearman correlation coefficient and the Chi-Square test, while an ordinal logistic regression was performed to identify predictive factors. Statistical analyses were conducted on IBM SPSS Statistics version 29.0. The questionnaire was filled out by 130 participants (80 % women) with a mean age of 37.9 ± 13.59 years. On workdays, 71.6 % of participants reported a daily eating window of 12 to 14 h, while on free days, the highest percentage (46.6 %) reported between 10 and 12 h. A significant inverse correlation was observed between willingness to adhere to a TRE protocol based on perceived health benefits and both age (ρ = -0.356, p < 0.001) and sex (ρ = -0.321, p < 0.001). Moderate correlations were also found between the willingness to follow a TRE protocol on workdays (ρ = 0.538) and free days (ρ = 0.598) and the potential health benefits of this type of intervention (p < 0.001). Additionally, sex was associated with potential adherence to the TRE protocol (χ²(2) = 10.644, p = 0.005), with a tendency for men to show lower willingness for adherence. Associations were also identified between body weight management and reducing the eating window by 1 to 2 h (χ²(12) = 24.883, df = 12, p = 0.015) and 2 to 3 h (χ²(12) = 22.367, p = 0.034). Moreover, the perceived importance of income, body weight management and cooking knowledge were significant predictors of the likelihood of adherence to a TRE protocol with a 3 to 4 h restriction in the eating window on workdays (p < 0.005). These results provide valuable insights that should be considered when translating research into clinical practice, specifically in an adult population, as individuals’ willingness and motivation to adopt TRE protocols in free-living conditions are influenced by multiple factors. This work was supported by Portuguese national funds provided by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P. The disruption of the Portuguese language in the Brazilian translation of the feminist classic Our Bodies, Ourselves

    No full text
