Kutyák mitrális endocardiosisának előfordulása a betegség súlyosságának függvényében

    Get PDF
Gyakori előfordulása miatt jelentősége a kisállatorvoslásban igen nagy. Diplomamunkám során retrospektív adatelemzéssel kutyák mitrális endocardiosisával kapcsolatos kérdésekre kerestük a választ.

A kutatás során különös figyelmet fordítottunk e mételyfajok jelenlétének felderítésére, valamint átfogó képet szerettünk volna kapni a Szekszárdi-dombság vadállományának parazitás fertőzöttségéről

A készülék in vivo mérési pontosság megállapítása úgynevezett validációs tesztek végrehajtásával történt.

The importance of EHV-2 in etiopathogenesis of ocular diseases in horses

    No full text
Seventy-eight horses with nonhealing ocular disease examined at Equine Clinic of University of Veterinary Medicne and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Brno, Czech Republic, between years 2009 and 2016, were included in this study. Out of these, 12 horses suffered from bilateral ocular disease and in seven horses antivirotic treatment had been started before the referral, so the contralateral healthy eye was sampled as well. Together 97 dry sterile conjunctival sac cotton swabs were taken. Starting form 2014, peripheral blood leukocytes has been also examined together with ocular swabs. PBLs were examined in 43 patients. Positive EHV-2 results were detected in 53 ocular swab samples (54, 64%) and in 22 out of 43 PBLs samples (51, 16%). Horses were divided into three groups regarding the age. Group of young horses (0 ≤ 3 years), group of middle age horses (315), containing 10, 57 and 11 horses, with 15, 68 and 14 examined eyes respectively. Depending on clinical presentation, horses were also divided into nonulcerative or ulcerative keratitis, keratouveitis, keratoconjuctivitis or corneal degeneration groups

Detection of atypical porcine pestivirus in Hungary

    Get PDF
Pestiviruses are highly variable RNA viruses within the Flaviviridae family causing economically relevant diseases of different kinds of livestock. A newly identified Pestivirus, the atypical porcine pestivirus (APPV), was identified in the USA in 2015. Since then, different APPV outbreaks were detected in several European countries, in America, and in Asia as well. Studies have shown that pregnant sows inoculated with APPV positive blood-or tissue-suspension are farrowing piglets affected by A-II type congenital tremor (CT). CT is characterized by a typical shaking of the head and the limbs of newborn piglets and is often complicated with splayed legs. Whereas the shaking itself is not the direct cause of death, it can prevent the piglets from proper nutrition, resulting in a decrease of growth rate and even death by starvation. Recently, numerous pigs of different Hungarian herds were showing signs of CT and therefore they have been investigated for the presence of APPV by our research group. The aim of my research was to detect the virus in Hungarian swine herds, to characterize the strains and compare them to each other and to previously published sequences that can help in cognition of their origin, spread, and genome evolution. The second objective was to localize and visualize the virus in various tissue samples. To do so, various tissue samples were obtained from four affected piglets, that were necropsied in 2017. One part of the samples were kept in –80 ºC for PCR-based virus detection, the other part was fixed in formalin and embedded in paraffin (FFPE). We isolated RNA from the frozen samples and detected the virus by conventional RT-PCR. We performed a novel RNA in situ hybridization method (RNAscope) on slides prepared from the FFPE samples to show the tissue localization of the virus. Based on recent scientific studies and the results of our research group, APPV is mostly localized in the inner granular layer of the cerebellum, which is reported to be responsible for the clinical signs, and also in the ependymal and subependymal cells of the cerebrum

Pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD) approach in the veterinary medicine - Literature review

    Get PDF
SUMMARY Among veterinary drugs, antibacterial drugs are frequently used in the clinical practice. The aim of antibacterial therapy is to enhance clinical outcome and eliminate pathogenic microbes. Antibacterial pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) relationship reflects a correlation between the antibacterial drug concentration in the blood, the concentration of biologically active drug at the site of the infection, and the sensitivity of the microbe. The PK parameters, such as AUC and Cmax, describe the fate of the drug in the host. The PD parameters, such as MIC, describe the inhibitory effect of the drug on bacterial pathogens. The three most frequently used PK/PD indices are ratio of area under the concentration time curve at 24 h to the MIC (AUC0-24/MIC), the ratio of the peak drug concentration to the MIC (Cmax/MIC), and the percentage of the dosing interval for which the plasma concentration exceeds the MIC (%T > MIC). Using of PK/PD approach in veterinary medicine can optimize the right dosing regimen. There-fore, reduced toxicity and reduction in the incidence of resistance are important consequences. The emergence of resistance is a global issue in human and veterinary medicine alike. The aim of this review is to introduce PK/PD relationships in veterinary medicine based on in vitro and in vivo models
