Brachycephalic dogs
The aim of this paper is to give a comprehensive overview of what the concerns of brachycephalic dogs are all about, what we can offer to make these dogs life better, and how we can reverse the trend going forward. While different aspects of the subject will be included and highlighted, the main focus will be on the pathophysiology and topics related to BOAS-brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome specifically.

Controlling of Salmonella species in Korean Chicken Slaughterhouse
Salmonella spp. belongs to Enterobacteriaceae family, it is Gram-negative, non-spore forming, rod-shaped, facultative anaerobic microbe, motile bacterium, which can be found on animals and in the environment. Salmonella spp. is major foodborne pathogens which commonly occur in live poultry, contaminate the poultry meat during slaughter and get transferred to further processing areas. Cumulative Prevalence of Atresia ani in a Hungarian Holstein-Friesian Dairy Farm
Atresia ani is a relatively common congenital defect in Holstein-Friesian cattle. In this veterinary diploma work all available literature concerning atresia ani was reviewed. Holstein-Friesians were the most reported breed, there were no significant differences between males and females, age of diagnosis was within the first day of life and the presence of other congenital defects was often noted
Cocktails or not: Dissipation of some pesticides from greenhouse tomatoes applied alone or in combination treatment
The aim was to investigate the residue concentrations of spirotetramat and metalaxyl-M in greenhouse tomatoes when applied alone or in combination. To determine if there is a change in dissipation measured, followed the interaction when both chemicals were applied. This study also aimed to investigate tomato juice residues of spirotetramat and metalaxyl-M post-heat treatment, when applied alone versus in combination.
A literature review was performed to gain in-depth knowledge regarding the aim of the study and the two pesticides used. Spirotetramat is the active ingredient in Movento, and metalaxyl-M in Ridomil Gold. Previous studies have proved the dissipation of a chemical, but there is a vast array regarding our topic when spirotetramat and metalaxyl-M are used in combination.
The experiment was carried out using greenhouse tomatoes, and the chemicals, spirotetramat and metalaxyl-M, were applied alone and in combination before measuring the residue concentrations — techniques such as Sigma-Aldrich. Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, and Safe (QuEChERS) kits I-II, IKA T-25 Ultra-Turrax® Labrotory homogenizer, by a Phenomenex Kinetex C18, Electrospray (ESI) ionization, and LC-MS measured the pesticide concentration
A comparison of incidence of mastitis between three Irish dairy farms, and the effect of season on its occurrence
The season is an important predisposing factor for intramammary infections such as mastitis to occur, and may play an important role in influencing the frequency of udder health issues in a herd scale. The aim of this study was to determine how much of an effect the season had on the average monthly SCC recorded in three dairy herds, known in this study as Farm A, Farm B and Farm C. These three dairy herds are all located in the eastern Republic of Ireland, and would have experienced the same climatic conditions in the period of study, and are assumed to have the same practices performed as regards to milk recording, housing and grazing.
The animal husbandry system in Ireland is based on keeping the animals on pasture for the majority of the year, until the winter when the conditions will no longer allow for grazing. This gives a clear separation between the winter housing period and the rest of the year. The expected trend in the data analysed was the increase of herd average SCC during housing, with lower numbers seen in the spring and summer.
The data was analysed by calculating the average SCC of the herd on a monthly basis for each of the three farms. In addition, the median values were also found. From this data, it was possible to discern the trends in the data throughout the period of milk recording for each of the three farms. Significantly elevated individual milk recording results had the effect of driving up the herd average SCC, which could potentially give an erroneous impression of the true overall udder health situation in each herd. Therefore, in addition to the average SCC measurements, an average was calculated for each herd where significantly high scoring cows were omitted from the analysed data. The threshold set for this study was 1 million somatic cells/ml milk.
The data before exclusion of high scoring cows gave no indication of there being an increased propensity for subclinical or clinical mastitis in winter, in fact the highest cell counts were in some cases found in the summer. After exclusion, the data set indicated a situation more closely resembling the expected seasonal influence, where the period of housing recorded the highest SCC numbers below 1 million cells/ml. The significance of these findings however was deemed to be insufficient to provide evidence for conclusion that the incidence of mastitis is higher in the winter season in the Irish system. There is however enough evidence to suggest that the season will have a significant influence on the herd SCC, where the summer period will have more cases of exceedingly high scoring cows

In this thesis, literature on unethical and forensic aspects of pet keeping has been reviewed.
It has been thoroughly shown that animal abuse exists and is being carried out in many
different forms, mainly separated by whether or not it is intentionally causing harm. In
general, any action, or indeed lack of action, that brings physical and/or mental discomfort
and pain to an animal, is considered animal abuse
Heat stress in dairy cows 2. A review on nutritional strategies to alleviate losses
SUMMARY
The present review describes the possible nutritional strategies to alleviate
the heat stress related decrease in the milk yield of dairy cows. Heat stress
affects the energy metabolism both directly and indirectly. Loss of appetite and
reduced feed intake lowers the energy sources available for production, while
the increase in basal insulin concentration – as an indirect effect – is determinant in glucose and fatty acid utilization. Nutritional strategies that can lead to
improved energy status and moderate increase in production are reviewed in
detail. Altering the schedule of feed distribution, supplementing dairy rations
with fat or feeding NDF (neutral detergent fibre) components with improved
digestibility are effectively increasing energy intake. Yeast supplementation that
is widely used in periods of negative energy balance can enhance ruminal fermentation, and it is also effective in heat stress. Niacin supports adaptation
to heat stress through several different metabolic pathways, however, studies
have come to contradictory conclusions. The enhanced insulin action characteristic to heat stress can be promoted by dietary chromium supplementation
and an adjusted ratio of rumen degradable and undegradable protein in the
ration. Supply of major cationic and anionic macro elements supports the acid
base status and compensates the heat-related electrolyte-deficiency. Other,
less investigated supplements, such as betaine, flavonoids and selenium act
through mechanisms that are not fully known. The primary goal of feeding solutions is the improvement of the general health status and adaptive capacity of
animals which often results in increased production, though understandably to
a limited extent. The role of nutritional interventions can thus only be secondary
to cooling efforts in preventing heat stress. Increasing knowledge on heat stress
physiology can promote the development of nutritional strategies.

A szerzők előző, a tejtermelés hőstresszben tapasztalható csökkenését okozó
élettani változásokkal kapcsolatos irodalmi áttekintő közleményük folytatásaként az alkalmazkodást segítő takarmányozási megoldásokat mutatják be jelen
közleményükben. A fejadag energiatartalmának növelésével, ill. a bendőbeli
illózsírsav-termelést serkentő kiegészítőkkel kapcsolatos kutatási eredmények
mellett a hőstresszben tapasztalható fokozott inzulinhatást támogató megoldásokat is ismertetik. A sav-bázis egyensúlyt és az ásványianyag-ellátottságot
javító, továbbá egyéb, nem pontosan ismert mechanizmus útján ható kiegészítőkkel kapcsolatos eredményeket is összefoglalják
