The Impact of Human Capital Accumulation on EBIT Margins: A Panel Data Study
This thesis investigates the critical relationship between labour intensity, the ratio of labour
costs to total revenue, and operating margins. This thesis puts a focus on the following
four sectors: IT, automotive, banking, and retail. By analysing an eleven-year panel dataset from 2014 to 2024, the research identifies a significant "sensitivity gap" in how different
sectors transform human capital into profitability. While all sectors show that higher labour
intensity correlates with lower margins, the IT sector exhibits a disproportionately high
sensitivity coefficient. In the IT sector, reducing labour cost leads to increased profit
margins. The change in profit margins is far higher than in the other three sectors. The
research concludes that in the modern digital economy, the rigorous management of
labour efficiency, rather than the mere accumulation of human capital, serves as the
primary driver of corporate value creation
