Professional Learning Derived From International Academic Mobility During PhD Programs
This paper discusses the type of professional learning that international academic mobility makes possible during a PhD program. The conceptual approach used Pierre Bourdieu's field theory, which allows analyzing PhD students as 'newcomer' members who bet on mobility under the idea of illusio. The methodology used was qualitative. The information was obtained through semi-structured interviews with twenty-four new researchers who studied in four prestigious PhD programs in education and history in Mexico. The findings demonstrate that mobility fosters relationships with peers abroad, makes it easier to learn to do research, favors the reconversion of capital within the scientific field, and offers practical knowledge related to the need to publish results in order to achieve international recognition
In China, most civil disputes are resolved simply and promptly through alternative dispute resolution methods such as reconciliation between the parties and people's mediation. However, there are a small number of cases in which civil disputes cannot be resolved properly and escalate to the point of "acts violating public security administration". At that time, if the public security organ determines that mediation is possible for the incident, it may initiate "public security mediation". The purpose of this paper is to clarify the background, history, current situation, and achievements of China's public security mediation, and to show how administrative ADR and public security mediation systems should be improved in the future
In this study, we explore the concept of 'Tao' (The Way) as exemplified in "Yamanoue no Soujiki" (Records of Chanoyu Sogen), focusing on the notions of 'Ichido' (One Way) and 'Rakudo' (Way of Enjoyment) regarding the 'Origin of Chanoyu'. We discuss their significance in relation to the spiritual and mental cultivation in Zen practice. Furthermore, we delve into the concepts of 'Suki-do' (Way of the Teahouse) and 'Kono Michi no Oku no Oku' (The Deepest Depths of This Way), which enriches our understanding of the discourse and leads to a deeper exploration of the technical aspects of the Way of Tea. Additionally, this study defines and explains the sufficient and necessary conditions for the concept of 'Tao' as described in "Yamanoue no Soujiki"
Business Informality as a Deterrent to Peace and Stability in Afghanistan
Afghanistan's business environment has been challenged by years of war, political uncertainty, inadequate institutional investment, and discrimination against women and minorities. With informal activities constituting up to 80% of the economy, growth is hindered, policymaking is complicated, and public service delivery is affected. The economy's vulnerabilities are magnified by heavy reliance on international aid, limited industrialization, and prevalent nonregulatory activities. This study aims to explore the reasons why most businesses remain in the informal sector and the consequence of this on peace and stability. The reasons for remaining in the informal sector are investigated through surveys, interviews, and focus group discussion with formal and informal businesses. Key informant interviews were also conducted with officials of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries and the Ministry of Finance. Respondents mentioned similar issues, including procedural complexity, educational gaps, complex business registration systems, high taxes, weak institutions, and corruption, while even formal businesses noted some positive aspects of the informal sector. The findings and literature analysis indicate that the government's inability to generate sufficient revenue is mainly due to the fact that the large informal sector does not contribute to state coffers, and that this further exacerbates social grievances and conflicts. Weak public services decrease the government's legitimacy and fuel the expansion of the informal sector. Based on our analysis, we argue that measures to encourage the formalization of businesses need to be supportive rather than punitive

“Villon’s Wife” (“Viyon no Tsuma”) stands as one of Osamu Dazai’s novels which was crafted in the “female monologue” style. In February 1979, the Chinese version, translated by Zhang Jialin, appeared in the journal “Foreign Literature and Art.” Following ‘the embryonic phase’ and ‘the silent phase,’ the introduction of Osamu Dazai’s literature in China entered ‘the revival phase,’ and Zhang’s translation of “Villon’s Wife” played an important role during this period. The current paper first provides an overview of ‘the embryonic phase’ and ‘the silent phase.’ With this as a basis, it focuses on Shanghai Translation Publishing House, the journal “Foreign Literature and Art,” and Zhang’s translation. This paper delineates the establishment of the publishing house, the features of the journal, the rationale behind introducing Dazai and “Villon’s Wife,” and the translation itself. Importantly, the paper attempts to clarify how the introduction of Osamu Dazai’s literature experienced a revival in China. In August 1981, another work by Dazai, “The Setting Sun” (“Shayō”), was also translated into Chinese by Zhang Jialin, and it was featured in the “Series of Foreign Literature and Art,” edited by the editorial department of “Foreign Literature and Art;” this aspect is also described in this paper.
