    The Impact of Achievement Goal Orientations on Learning Satisfaction of Secondary School Students: The Chain Mediating Effect of Academic Self-efficacy and Learning Engagement

    Learning satisfaction is the feeling or attitude of learners towards learning activity participation, reflecting the degree of their fondness for learning activities as well as the extent to which their needs for learning are met or learning goals are achieved. Achievement goal orientations refer to students’ general tendencies for approaching, engaging in, and evaluating their academic progress and performance in achievement contexts. Achievement goal orientations address the reasons and purposes of individuals’ attempt to accomplish certain achievement outcomes. Academic self-efficacy has significant influences on students’ persistence, perseverance, and emotion-regulation in the learning process, and is a key factor in heightening their learning motivation and improving their academic performance

    Evaluation of Parents’ Views on An Early Childhood Science Program Including Activities in Out-of-School Learning Environments

    Young children’s instinctive curiosity is essential in early childhood science education. Efficacious science education is associated with the characteristics of a qualified science program and an effective learning environment. The out-of-school learning environments make it easier to achieve the aims of science education in early childhood with their opportunities and advantages. This single case study aimed to reveal the views of the parents of children aged 60-72 months who participated in an early childhood science program that included science activities in out-of-school learning environments, in the classroom, and at home. The Program, which included parent involvement activities in the classroom, out-of-school learning environments and at home, was implemented for seven weeks. After completing all activities of the Program, the data obtained from the interviews with the parents were analyzed. The findings showed that parents were interested in science and supported their children regarding science subjects, spent time at home on science activities, and visited out-of-school learning environments with their children. It was determined that the out-of-school learning activities of the Program contributed a lot to the child, and the studies of parent involvement at home contributed variously for both the child and the parents. The Program was effective as a whole and parents requested its implementation throughout the school year. Based on these findings, in this research, we discussed the importance of frequently including science activities in out-of-school learning environments and classroom activities in early childhood and the parents’ involvement in the science education process as valuable stakeholders

    The Effects of STEM Activities Conducted with the Flipped Learning Model on Primary School Students’ Scientific Creativity, Attitudes and Perceptions towards STEM

    The aim of this study is to determine the effects of STEM activities carried out with the flipped learning model within the scope of science class on the scientific creativity, perceptions about STEM, and attitudes towards STEM of 4th grade primary school students and to reveal students’ opinions about the learning process. The sample of this study consisted of 57 fourth grade students attending a public primary school in a city center in the Eastern Black Sea region in the spring semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. Mixed method was used in the study. Quasi-experimental method with experimental and control groups was used in the quantitative dimension of the study, and case study was used in the qualitative dimension. In the study, data were collected using the “Scientific Creativity Scale”, “STEM Attitude Scale”, “STEM Perception Test” and a “semi-structured interview form” developed by the researcher. SPSS 21 package program was used to analyze the collected quantitative data and content analysis was used to analyze the qualitative data. The quantitative results of the study revealed that STEM activities conducted with the Flipped Learning Model had a positive effect on students’ scientific creativity levels and STEM perceptions, but had no effect on their attitudes towards STEM. The qualitative results of the study revealed that students mostly found the activities useful, instructive and fun. In line with the results obtained from the study, the use of STEM activities supported by the Flipped Learning model is recommended at all levels of education

    The term “giant baby” became popular among Chinese people after Zhihong Wu’s book The Country of ‘Giant Babies’: A Domestic Psychologist Examining the Chinese National Character was published. An adult who fits this description is considered to be cognitively and psychologically immature. Researchers have discovered that this condition, known as “Giant Babies,” also affects the educational system, as some students’ psychological growth lags behind their physical development. This article outlined the behavioral traits of giant baby symptoms among Chinese college students, such as excessive reliance on others, egocentrism, and bigotry, and explained the underlying causes from the perspective of school education in an effort to pinpoint pertinent issues with Chinese education and provide recommendations for the development and education of more socially mature talents

    “Internet plus” is a new form of economic and social development driven by innovation in knowledge society 2.0. With the continuous deepening of the reform of talent training mode, the concept of mixed teaching is gradually taking root in people's minds. To promote the development and reform of the school’s teaching management, Zhongliang Xiangyun Branch of Chengdu Longjiang Road Primary School has improved the school’s teaching management ability and level as a whole by utilizing the high-quality innovative educational resources provided by the Tsinghua University project team's Internet platform. The school utilizes the high-quality curriculum resources provided by Tsinghua University’s Internet platform to continuously optimize teaching methods and measures, and explores the goal of a smart classroom around core literacy. We focus on deep learning, combined with the concept of the new national curriculum standards and the requirements of the digital transformation of education, to propose a new idea of smart classroom teaching in schools. We use online research and learning resources to enrich teacher training paths and provide talent support for classroom reform. In addition, the school combines offline research and training platforms to improve the teaching level of teachers and enable their growth. We rely on online teaching management services to improve the management level of cadres and teachers, and further ensure the high-level implementation of school classroom teaching and the high-quality development of classroom teaching. These measures have effectively promoted the education and teaching ability and level of all teachers in the school and successfully promoted the development of school teaching management towards a more scientific and efficient direction

    Can the Elite Stream Improve the Academic Achievement of Senior Secondary School Students? A Study of High School Students from X City in western China based on Regression Discontinuity Analysis

    The fairness and efficacy of the elite stream in general senior secondary education have long been a contentious issue. Based on the longitudinal data of the students who were enrolled in five senior secondary schools in X City in western China in 2017 and 2018, this study examined the effects of elite class streaming in improving student academic performance, using regression discontinuity analysis. The research findings showed that: despite the significant differences in the grade-10 streaming examination results and the grade-12 academic achievement between the elite class and regular class students, the gap was not markedly widened after three years of senior secondary education; the elite stream did not exhibit distinct promotive effects on the advancement of students’ overall performance when the cutoff point of elite class admission was utilized as the exogenous variable to evaluate the effects of the elite stream on student performance; both the parameter estimation and non-parametric estimation results demonstrated that the elite stream had no marked effects in improving student performance and there was no gender difference or urban vs. rural difference in the impact of the elite stream on student academic achievement

    The condition of obesity, which is defined by an excessive amount of adipose tissue, is being increasingly acknowledged as having significant consequences for the structure and functioning of the brain. Numerous studies have demonstrated that obesity is linked to significant modifications in the structure of the brain, encompassing variations in the volume of gray matter, the integrity of white matter, and modifications in particular brain regions responsible for regulating appetite and cognitive control. For example, research employing neuroimaging methodologies such as magnetic resonance imaging has consistently indicated that individuals with obesity frequently display diminished gray matter volume in areas such as the prefrontal cortex, which is known to play a critical role in processes such as decision-making and impulse control. Furthermore, there have been observations of white matter abnormalities that impact the interconnection among brain regions responsible for hunger regulation and reward processing. These abnormalities may potentially play a role in the development of overeating tendencies and compromised self-control. The aforementioned alterations in structure are not solely connected to obesity, but are also correlated with cognitive deficits, namely in domains pertaining to memory, attention, and executive functioning. Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the complex correlation between obesity and brain structure is of utmost importance, as it provides valuable insights into the neurological foundations of cognitive impairments in individuals affected by obesity. Moreover, this knowledge serves as a basis for the creation of specific interventions aimed at alleviating the cognitive repercussions associated with this widespread public health issue
