    Who Chooses Teaching as a Career? Empirical Evidence from a Survey of College Graduates Employment

    The proportion of teaching staff in China’s labor force as a whole has been steadily rising. It increased from 1.99% in 1990 to 2.3% in 2015 according to estimates based on census data. As a result of the expansion of higher education in China, the education level of the newly employed in the labor market has remarkably improved. In this process, one prominent phenomenon is that young females with college degrees have outnumbered their male counterparts. These changes yield significant effects on teacher labor force supply. Consequently, teachers with a university degree or above predominate the teaching staff; the proportion of female teachers with college degrees is also rising. Hence, to better understand college graduates employment and the current state of teacher supply in China, it is crucial to study the factors influencing graduates’ decision on their career as a teacher

    Flipped Learning Model: An Effective Approach to Primary School STEM Education

    As early as 1986, the US National Science Board published Undergraduate Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Education, which is regarded as the initiation of STEM education (NSB, 1986). In October 2005, the National Academy of Science, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and National Research Center jointly submitted to the Congress of the United States Rising Above the Gathering Storm: Energizing and Employing America for a Brighter Economic Future, a report that put forward relevant recommendations to promote STEM education (Bybee, 2010). In October 2007, the US National Science Board issued A National Action Plan for Addressing the Critical Needs of the US Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education System, proposing to expand STEM education from colleges to primary and secondary schools (NSB, 2007). In 2009, former President of the United States, Barack Obama, emphasized the need for the nation to prioritize the development of STEM education. Since then, the US federal government has heavily invested in STEM education research across all levels, from kindergarten through higher education. Educational communities in other countries have also begun researching and implementing STEM education practices. Numerous studies and extensive practice have demonstrated the potential of STEM education in promoting students’ cognitive development, enhancing their critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills, as well as improving their emotional and spiritual well-being

    Analysis of Problems in the Development of Online Teaching and Suggestions for Improvement

    With the rapid development of information technology, various online learning platforms such as WeChat, MOOC, and Ding Talk are increasingly being used in classrooms, changing the way education is delivered. However, the adoption of online teaching has revealed some problems that have limited its effectiveness. The problems include insufficient network service capacity to support large-scale online learning, a lack of high-quality teaching resources, inadequate learning platform functions, and inadequate online learning habits among teachers and students. Although various means, such as Micro-Course Online Video, MOOC, intelligent teaching platforms, and artificial intelligence technologies can enrich the form of online education, online teaching has not yet maximized the use of information technology to improve education. This paper compares and analyzes online teaching and classroom teaching in terms of teaching resources, activities, evaluation, and outcomes, and proposes suggestions for improving online teaching, including improving network services, optimizing platform construction, promoting the reform of online teaching modes, deepening the integration of disciplines and information technology, and integrating online teaching into curriculum reform

    AI’s Role in Enhancing the Construction of Regional Primary and Secondary School Teachers

    This paper investigates and analyzes the current situation of regional teaching staff and explores the path of AI in enhancing the construction of primary and secondary school teachers. Recent state documents have emphasized the urgent need for AI to improve teaching staff development. The study reveals issues in the construction of primary and secondary school teachers' teams in teaching, management, and training. For instance, classroom teaching is limited by time and space, making it difficult to achieve personalized learning for students and differentiated teaching for teachers. Teacher training lacks individual and group diagnosis, which does not consider teacher individuality, differences, and hierarchy. The evaluation of teachers in regional management and service tends to be subjective, and the awareness and application of data are inadequate. The study proposes addressing these problems by building and applying teacher big data, developing an AI assistant for teachers, and upgrading the quality of teaching intelligent monitoring systems. The proposed measures aim to promote high-quality development of regional teaching staff by establishing the main path for AI to enhance the construction of primary and secondary school teachers

    Clinical Characteristics and Detection of Polymerase Epsilon Mutant Endometrial Carcinoma

    Polymerase Epsilon (POLE)-mutant endometrial cancer accounts for 7%-12% of endometrial cancer molecular types, and most of these patients are early-stage endometrioid carcinoma. Although POLE-mutant endometrial cancer has some unfavorable pathological features such as being poorly differentiated, the overall prognosis is good, and postoperative adjuvant treatment may be considered for de-escalation. POLE-mutant endometrial cancer is relatively less sensitive to postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy or radiotherapy, but because of its ultra-high tumor mutation load, recurrent or advanced patients are expected to benefit from programmed cell death receptor 1 (PCDR1) blockade therapy. This review will discuss the clinical features of POLE-mutated endometrial carcinoma and the progress made in the detection of POLE gene mutations

    The mindset is a crucial factor influencing the behavior of individuals. This study aims to evaluate the growth mindset of 10- and 15-year-old adolescents and the relationship between their mindsets and social and emotional skills from the viewpoints of students, parents, and teachers, using OECD’s SSES 2019 data from Suzhou City. The research results show that the growth mindset of students is affected by their socioeconomic status; and that the growth mindset of students, parents, and teachers can significantly and positively predict student social and emotional skills

    Investigating the Effectiveness of Life Skills Training Guide on Pre-service Science Teachers’ Development of Professional Knowledge Regarding Entrepreneurship Skills

    The present study aims to examine the effect of the life skills training guide on the development of pre-service science teachers’ professional knowledge of entrepreneurial skills. The study included 82 pre-service science teachers studying in the third year of a public university in Turkey during the 2019-2020 academic year. The data of the study, which was conducted with a one-group pre-test-post-test experimental design, were collected using the entrepreneurship skills professional knowledge test. The data were analyzed using the professional knowledge assessment rubric and entrepreneurship skill indicators. The results of the study revealed that there was a significant difference between the pre-and post-test scores of the pre-service teachers in favor of the post-test scores. Following the experimental process, their professional knowledge about entrepreneurship increased. However, the number of pre-service teachers who were able to improve their professional knowledge scores to a high level was limited. Furthermore, following the experimental process, there was an increase in the number of pre-service teachers who were able to develop appropriate activities for students to gain entrepreneurial skills and to prepare tools for measuring and evaluating students’ entrepreneurial skills in a way to include stressed indicators. Consequently, the present study provides science teacher educators with educational activities that they can model within the scope of teaching professional knowledge of entrepreneurship skills to pre-service science teachers

    Environmental Sustainability in Science Education in the Anthropocene: A View from STEAM Education

    Environmental problems in the age we live in require us to think differently, to question them, and to do something corrective. The role of science education in the transformation of education and its adaptation to the age is perhaps more than in previous periods. Because at the end of the day is the continuity of our planet. This article examines science education and higher-order thinking skills in the Anthropocene era and presents examples from studies on environmental sustainability as a prominent concept in this field. In addition, it argues that STEAM education is one of the ideal approaches that can meet this goal by presenting examples of what can be done with a holistic and interdisciplinary view of environmental sustainability within the framework of STEAM education. Suggestions are made through STEAM training, with the assumption that environmental sustainability in an intricately connected network structure rather than linear chains can only be understood with an interdisciplinary approach and solutions can be found only in this way

    ICAP Taxonomy of Modes of Cognitive Engagement: A Learner-Centered Theory Focusing on Observable Engagement Behaviors

    Historically, there have been a number of impactful education theories that used the taxonomy as a classification device, such as the Bloom taxonomy of educational objectives and Gagne taxonomy of learning outcomes. The Bloom taxonomy of educational objectives was developed in the 1950s by the U.S. Committee of College and University Examiners under the leadership of Dr. Benjamin Bloom, which categorizes educational objectives into three domains: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. Among them, the cognitive domain (the main concern of their research) contains six major classes: knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, evaluation. They are arranged in a hierarchical order with the objectives in one class built on the behaviors found in the preceding classes. Its primary purpose is to provide classification of goals of the educational system for all teachers, administrators, professional specialists, and research workers who deal with curricular and evaluation problems (Committee of College and University Examiners, 1956). Gagne’s theory approaches learning from the viewpoint of the instruction. Under his taxonomy, the five categories of learning outcomes are verbal information, intellectual skills, cognitive strategies, motor skills, and attitudes, each of which requires necessary conditions to achieve and corresponds to specific principles of instructional events (Gagne, 1984)
