    Get PDF
This study aims to explore the overlapping influences of the home and school on peer victimization in adolescents under the notion of home-school partnership and to investigate how the parent-child relationship, teacher-student relationship, teenage depressive symptoms are related to peer victimization by constructing a moderated mediation model. It surveyed 1,710 students in 5-8 grades, using the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment, Student-Teacher Relationship Scale (brief version), Multidimensional Peer Victimization Scale, and Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (brief version). Research findings show that the parent-child relationship had a direct impact on peer victimization and indirectly affected peer victimization via the mediation of teenage depressive symptoms; and that teacher-student relationships had moderating effects on the three paths in the mediation model, playing roles in enhancing the protection effect of the parent-child relationship against peer victimization, weakening the possible impact of the parent-child relationship on teenager depression, and alleviating the predictive effect of depressive symptoms on peer victimization. The research suggests that home-school partnership is a viable avenue for the prevention of school bullying

This study aimed to investigate grade-7 students’ negotiation during the engineering design process regarding the students’ status of argumentation training. The participants were 33 students studying at a public urban middle school in Turkey. They worked in small groups on four engineering design tasks about electricity and light. Data were collected through small group audio recordings, student worksheets, and the observation. The data were analyzed by using content analysis. The results indicated that negotiation patterns were similar across all groups. However, differences were found between the group that received argumentation training and the one that did not receive in terms of proposing ideas for material design, using justifications when in agreement with others, counter proposing and acquiring information for better planning and altering the design, and critiquing for design advantages and disadvantages

Could Mindful Meditation be a Routine Therapeutic Intervention in Practice?

    Get PDF
Although mindfulness meditation has become more and more well-liked as a therapeutic technique in recent years, it might not be appropriate for every person or situation. Although mindfulness meditation has been shown to be beneficial for reducing stress, anxiety, and depression, its effects may not be felt by all people. Furthermore, some people could find it challenging to practice mindful meditation because of a variety of obstacles, like attentional or cognitive impairments. It is pivotal to consider the unique demands of every client in a professional context and design interventions accordingly. It’s also critical to understand that, where appropriate, mindful meditation should be utilized in addition to other evidence-based therapies rather than being viewed as a one-size-fits-all remedy. Because of this, mindful meditation should not be used as the only therapeutic intervention in practice, even if it can be a useful tool in increasing mental well-being

Argumentation Training Boosts the Outcome of Negotiation in Collaborative Learning

    Get PDF
Negotiation is an essential technique in collaborative learning. In the negotiation process, students learn to listen to others’ opinions, express their own ideas, discuss divisions, and reach agreement. It also plays an important role in the construction of knowledge on the part of students. According to the constructivist theory, learning is a process of active construction, in which learners construct their knowledge and understanding through interaction with the environment (Yu-Jun, 2013). Negotiation is a crucial component of the interaction, contributing to enhancing learning engagement and developing in-depth understanding of information. Moreover, it is particularly effective in fostering students’ critical thinking ability in that it concerns discrimination and judgement of differential information and perspectives (Olson, 1997)

Problem-Based Learning in Science Education: A Mixed Meta Method Study

    Get PDF
A mixed-meta analysis of research on problem-based learning in science education was the goal of this study. In this instance, document analysis utilizing the mixed-meta method—which combines meta-analysis and meta-thematic analysis procedures-was used to investigate both quantitative and qualitative data. Using CMA and MetaWin programs, studies from certain databases that fit predetermined criteria were analyzed for a meta-analysis. Of the 78 studies that were included in the study, the effect size was found to be large, with g = 0.909. It has been suggested that science education benefits from the problem-based learning approach. Within the framework of the established criteria, 15 researches based on document analysis were subjected to a meta-thematic analysis using the Maxqda program in accordance with content analysis. Codes were acquired based on specific topics. By calculating the compliance values of the relevant codes under the relevant themes, a good degree of agreement was found regarding the effects of problem-based learning in science education on academic achievement, the affective-social dimension, 21st century skills, and the negative aspects of problem-based learning in science education. The research results indicate that there is a consensus among the researchers regarding the benefits of using problem-based learning techniques in science education

The year of of 2023 was supposed to be a year full of hopes and with the promise that everything would return to the right track. At the end of the year, however, we realized that the world was far away from the right track. Instead, it underwent a turbulent period, becoming more unstable, uncertain, and unpredictable: Geopolitical conflicts continued to escalate, and the humanitarian crises were deteriorating, with no signs of the Russian-Ukrainian war coming to an end or Palestinian-Israeli tension subsiding; The world economy was slowing down, facing the dual challenges of low growth and high inflation; Natural and climate change-induced disasters arose one after another, like the devastating earthquake in Turkey, once-in-a-century drought in the Amazon rainforest, and the raging floods in the Horn of Africa, to name a few

Crisis of Medical Humanity: It Is the Time for a Real Consideration

    Get PDF
The medical humanity issue presents a significant obstacle to the healthcare profession, raising concerns about the ethical standards, compassion, and empathy that are vital aspects of patient-centered care. Amidst the prevalence of technological progress and a focus on measurable results, there is a rising apprehension that healthcare providers are becoming increasingly detached from their patients, viewing them as just medical cases rather than individuals who deserve comprehensive care. The erosion of medical humanity not only weakens the bond between patients and healthcare providers but also has consequences for patient outcomes and the overall quality of service. Healthcare organizations must prioritize activities focused on cultivating a culture of empathy, providing training in communication skills, and promoting mindfulness practices among healthcare staff. To tackle this problem and guarantee the provision of compassionate care that respects the dignity and well-being of every patient, we need to shift our attention towards humanistic ideals and recognize the significance of emotional intelligence in medical practice

Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and the Risk of Future Hepatocarcinoma

    Get PDF
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common chronic liver condition characterized by excess fat accumulation in the liver in the absence of significant alcohol consumption. While NAFLD itself is generally considered benign, it can progress to more severe forms such as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, which can ultimately lead to liver cirrhosis and hepatocarcinoma, a type of liver cancer. The risk of developing hepatocarcinoma in individuals with NAFLD is considerably higher than in the general population. Factors such as obesity, diabetes, insulin resistance, and inflammation contribute to the development and progression of NAFLD and its subsequent transformation into hepatocarcinoma. Regular monitoring, lifestyle modifications, and timely treatment of co-existing conditions are crucial in mitigating the risk of hepatocarcinoma among patients with NAFLD. Further research into the underlying mechanisms linking NAFLD to hepatocarcinoma is essential for developing effective preventive strategies and treatments for this increasingly prevalent condition
