Concept Map-Assisted Learning: An Effective Strategy for Building Knowledge Structures
Concepts are generally understood as fundamental building blocks underlying principles, thoughts, and beliefs (Goguen, 2005), playing a central role in all facets of cognition. For students, conceptual understanding is the foundation of the development of disciplinary knowledge. Thorough comprehension of core concepts is critical to the mastery of relevant knowledge and skills and their practical applications (Wang & Miao, 2023). From teachers’ point of view, successful conceptual instruction can significantly increase teaching efficacy and aid students in developing legitimate knowledge structures. Through in-depth analysis of concepts, teachers guide students to discover the relations between knowledge, fostering their learning interest and thinking ability (Yan, 2022). In order for students to grasp core concepts more efficaciously, educators have experimented with a wide variety of teaching methods, including cooperative learning, project-based learning, concept mapping, and more (Wang, 2016). A Case Study of the Efficacy of Group Sandplay Therapy in Improving Parent-Child Relationships
Group sandplay therapy is a useful instrument for healing family rifts. This article is a case study where the group sandplay therapy method was used to address the client’s conflicts with his family members. The therapy outcomes show that group sandplay therapy is efficacious in enhancing communication and interaction between family members, improving interpersonal relationships within a family, particularly the parent-child relationship, and alleviating parent-child tensions as barriers to effective home education
The Construction and Application of Smart Classrooms in China: A Literature Review Based on 93 Studies
The smart classroom, as a product of advances in information technology, has garnered wide attention in academia in recent years. Using the method of literature review, this article delves into the construction and application of smart classrooms in China on the basis of 93 prior studies retrieved from the database of the China National Knowledge Infrastructure. Research results show that there is a lack of uniform evaluation criteria for the construction of smart classrooms despite the prominent advancements in their systems and facilities, and that in the dimension of applications, there has been growing interest in the alignment between smart classroom technologies and instructional needs but a dearth of research on teaching activity design for smart classroom instruction. Recommendations are also proposed based on the issues detected, with a view to contributing to the widespread deployment and ongoing optimization of smart classrooms
An Empirical Study of the Relation between Rural School Size and Student Academic Achievement in the Context of Rural Revitalization
This article is an empirical study of academic achievement of rural students in X County, based on the analysis of how their senior secondary entrance examination results related to baseline performance (represented by terminal exam results of the first semester in grade 7) and academic progress (represented by student academic growth between grades 7 and 9). The rural schools included in the study were divided into two groups: small-size and medium-large-size schools. Fully investigated were the gaps in student senior secondary entrance examination results and academic progress among rural schools of distinct sizes as well as the impact of school sizes on different student groups
Identification of the Students’ Misconceptions about the Digestive System
The aim of this study is to determine the students’ misconceptions about the digestive system. In this quantitative research, the study group comprised totally 259 sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade students. The data were collected through a three-tier diagnostic test and analyzed in terms of scientific knowledge, the lucky guess, lack of knowledge, and misconception levels of students on digestive system. According to the findings, 20.1% of the students’ answers were in the scientific knowledge category and 9.1% were in the lucky guess category. On the other hand, 39.7% of the answers were in the lack of knowledge category and 26.0% were in the misconception category. The most prominent findings in the study were the students’ misconceptions in a few questions, especially about physical and chemical digestion. In addition, some students did not fully understand the distinction between the excretory and digestive organs and the functions of some accessory. They also gave incorrect answers about the organs where the digestion of proteins, carbohydrates and fats begins and ends. At the end of the study, suggestions were made to eliminate the misconceptions
Interweaving Assessment into Students’ Authentic Learning
Over decades, standardized testing has been the primary form of assessment of student learning. Standardized tests have been used as measurements of students’ knowledge retention, but with little capability of evaluating their capacities to apply knowledge in authentic contexts (Cai, 2000). With the advent of the information age, the limitations of conventional standardized tests have become increasingly pronounced. Assessment was one of the key concerns in the education reform in the 1990s. In the U.S., for example, America 2000: An Education Strategy emphasizes that measurements of student performance must be accurate, comparable, appropriate, and constructive; that placement decisions for young children should not be made on the basis of standardized tests; and that achievement tests must not simply measure minimum competencies, but also higher levels of reading, writing, speaking, reasoning, and problem-solving skills (Bush, 1991). Goals 2000: Educate America Act (1994) declares that its purpose is to provide a framework for meeting the National Education Goals by assisting in the development and certification of high-quality assessment measures that reflect the internationally competitive content and student performance standards, among other means

In this article, we delve into the concerning trends of e-cigarette use among the younger population, exploring the factors driving this phenomenon and evaluating the failures in current public health prevention strategies. By examining the regulatory gaps in e-cigarette marketing to the youth and proposing interventions to combat this growing issue, we aim to shed light on the urgent need for stronger policies and enforcement mechanisms to protect the health and well-being of our youth
