Could We Prevent Tobacco Products in Young Populations?

    Get PDF
The well-documented detrimental effects of tobacco on children and adolescents make it imperative to prevent tobacco use in young populations, which is a critical public health objective. Youth are particularly susceptible to nicotine’s addictive properties, and they are more susceptible to developing an addiction to tobacco products if they begin using them at a young age, according to research. The reduction of tobacco use among young people can be achieved by implementing evidence-based strategies, including increasing the minimum legal age for purchasing tobacco products, increasing taxation on these products, restricting marketing aimed at youth, and facilitating comprehensive school-based prevention programs, etc. Furthermore, prevention initiatives may be further bolstered by initiatives to encourage smoke-free environments and offer access to smoking cessation resources. In order to effectively prevent tobacco use in young populations and promote healthier outcomes for future generations, it is necessary to target various levels of intervention and involve multiple sectors, including healthcare professionals, educators, policymakers, and community leaders

Factors Influencing Tobacco Use in Chinese Teenagers

    Get PDF
The Report on Chinese Adolescent Tobacco Use 2023 announces a year-on-year decline in the prevalence of smoking in Chinese teenagers. Nevertheless, the hazards of tobacco products to the physical and mental health of this population remain a concerning issue. This study is an encapsulation of factors influencing the smoking behavior of Chinese adolescents based on a review of relevant literature. Personal characteristics such as gender, age, psychological traits, lifestyle, and perceptions of tobacco use, along with environmental factors like the family environment, circle of friends, and school climate, can all potentially influence a teenager's smoking behavior. A thorough examination of these factors can provide implications for advancing the regulation of teenager tobacco use and improving the work on adolescent health protection

An Overview of Tobacco Control Policies in China

    Get PDF
The tobacco epidemic is a global public health concern as the toxic substances in tobacco pose a severe threat to human health. In response to this issue, countries around the world have adopted various strategies to control tobacco use. The Chinese government began to pay attention to the health hazards of smoking in the 1970s and joined the international community in tobacco control endeavors by becoming a signatory of the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in the early 21st century. It has further intensified its tobacco control measures in recent years with its “Healthy China” strategy. This article gives an overview of tobacco control policies released by the Chinese government over the years, with a separate analysis of the provisions on smoking control stipulated in the Health China Action Plan (2019-2030). Also discussed are the outcomes of those policies and the challenges China faces in tobacco control, as well as the lessons China can learn from international experiences in this regard

How Is Middle-Class Parents’ Education Anxiety Generated? A Study Based on a Survey of Home Education of Junior Secondary School Students in 8 Provinces and Cities

    Get PDF
Drawing on a 2022 survey of home education of junior secondary school students in China’ eight provincial administrative regions, this study seeks to examine the chief factors influencing the generation of education anxiety in Chinese middle-class parents using a moderated mediation model. Research findings include that: (1) education anxiety is pervasive among middle-class parents who exhibit high levels of education anxiety but low levels of education involvement; (2) the parent’s perception of educational stratification can significantly predict their education anxiety; (3) the relationship between the parent’s perception of educational stratification and their education anxiety is mediated by their expectation of child education; (4) the parent’s perception of educational competition has a moderating effect on the relationship between their educational expectation and education anxiety

Will Artificial Intelligence Take Over Human Writer?

    Get PDF
Despite notable progressions in artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the imminent complete supplanting of human writers by AI is exceedingly improbable. Undoubtedly, AI is currently capable of producing texts that are only marginally cogent or even imitate specific writing styles by utilizing machine learning and algorithms. However, what distinguishes human writers is their capacity to imbue their works with ingenuity, sentimentality, and distinct viewpoints. Writing is more than simply assembling words; it is an authentic expression of oneself. In addition, human beings possess superior cognitive abilities such as critical thinking, intuition, and the capacity to comprehend intricate contexts beyond the current capabilities of any algorithm. However, who can say what the future may bring? It is not inconceivable that talent-matched AI writers will one day compose bestselling novels and award-winning articles alongside us humans. &nbsp

Artificial Intelligence as Author of Scientific Publications

    Get PDF
Ascribing authorship of scientific publications to artificial intelligence is a complex and controversial issue. However, it is a challenging and uncertain problem that, given the growing development of artificial intelligence-based technologies that go beyond the performance of purely technical tasks and even contribute to the development of aspects such as the incorporation of scientific research information published in languages other than English, also contributing to potential insights in research, is becoming unavoidable when considering scientific publishing. This paper aims to add to this discussion by arguing that, although this is a challenging and even controversial position, it is inevitable and even ethically desirable to accept artificial intelligence, if it subsidizes sufficiently, as a (co-)author of any scientific publication. It is a matter of starting to think about how this attribution can be controlled and achieved with increasing respect for the ethics of scientific publication

Teacher STEAM Education Supported by Professional Learning Communities: A Meaningful Practice of Teacher Professional Development

    Get PDF
Steam education is a synergetic, interdisciplinary approach that conflate science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics to foster creative, critical, and imaginative thinking and skills in students (Lamichhane, 2021). The core of STEAM is innovation and problem-solving. It places premiums on interdisciplinary skills, including inquiry, communication, collaboration, and self-management (Holbrook, 2020). In a world facing emerging challenges and complexities, STEAM education is instrumental in cultivating talents with abilities to integrate multiple-disciplinary knowledge, think critically and innovatively, solve problems voluntarily, and carry out effective collaboration

Career Plateauing among Chinese Kindergarten Teachers

    Get PDF
Teacher career plateaus hinder the high-quality development of teaching staff. Based on a nationwide questionnaire survey on Chinese kindergarten teachers’ career plateaus, this study developed a kindergarten teacher career plateauing structural model. The research findings indicate that overall career plateauing among Chinese kindergarten teachers is at a moderate level. The kindergarten teacher career plateauing model is best represented by the second-order single-factor/first-order three-factor structure, which consists of three dimensions: professional development, hierarchical, and emotional plateauing. Among these dimensions, emotional plateauing is most intensively perceived by teachers. Telltale signs of kindergarten teacher career plateauing range from stagnation of professional progress to losses of senses of meaning in work, constrained promotion of professional titles, slim chances of promotion to higher positions, fading positive emotional engagement, and increased negative workplace emotions. Implications of the study for building a professionalized preschool teaching force include emphases on teachers’ long-range career planning and their agency in career advancement. Special attention should be paid to their emotional needs
