Evidence indicates that mindfulness-based interventions can effectively assist individuals in coping with a range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and stress. Through the cultivation of enhanced self-awareness and emotional control via mindfulness practices, individuals have the potential to experience a decrease in symptoms, an increase in well-being, and an overall improvement in their quality of life. Furthermore, practicing mindfulness meditation can result in alterations in the structure and functioning of the brain, which are linked to improved cognitive capacities and emotional regulation. Integrating mindful meditation into clinical practice can offer patients valuable strategies for dealing with difficult situations and enhancing their long-term mental well-being and resilient ability

Get PDFTeacher autonomy support is about teachers’ instructional behavior that respects, support, and encourage students’ autonomy in learning, including providing them with behavioral and emotional support, appreciating their ideas, allowing them adequate free space in learning, inquiry, and choice-making, and more. Intellectual risk taking refers to the quality of being academically active in experimenting without concern about failure, a quality crucial to students’ science learning and creativity ability development. Creative self-efficacy is about the individual’s judgment on their capacities to generate creative ideas and solutions to problems. This article investigates the linkage between teacher autonomy support and student intellectual risk taking in science learning and examines the mediating effects of interest in science learning and creative self-efficacy. 
Developing an Achievement Test on the Subject of ‘Circulatory System’ for Sixth Graders
Get PDFThis study aims to develop a test to measure sixth grade students’ success in ‘Circulatory System’. For this purpose, a draft test containing 22 questions was prepared by the researchers. And then, the draft test was submitted to expert opinion and examined in terms of language and content. Following expert opinions, the 22 multiple-choice questions were administered to 128 seventh graders attended to two different secondary schools. Item analysis was performed in the data and thus, two questions were removed from the draft test. According to the findings, the overall item difficulty value of the 20-question final test was calculated as 0.654, and the item discrimination value was calculated as 0.54. KR-20 reliability coefficient of the test was 0.71. Seven of the questions are at the remembering level. Additionally, there were eight questions at the understanding level and five questions at the analysis level according to Bloom’ revised taxonomy
What do the Data Say? A Case Study with Pre-Service Teachers
Get PDFData literacy, which is considered among 21st century skills, is becoming increasingly important. In particular, incentives for data-driven decision-making draw attention to data literacy. Data literacy is also critical for teachers who need to use data in educational settings. Therefore, there is a need for data on whether teachers are equipped with data literacy competencies before their service. In this study, pre-service teachers’ data literacy competencies were examined. The case study approach was used in the study, which was conducted as qualitative research. The study group consisted of 61 pre-service teachers studying in three different undergraduate programs. Data were collected through the “What do the data say?” activity instrument. Rubrics were used to analyze the data. The findings of the study showed that while there was no difference in terms of using data and data communication, there was a statistically significant difference between the programs in terms of data recognition, comparing data and establishing relationships between data competencies, as well as total data literacy. In addition, it was found that the majority of pre-service teachers were partially inadequate or inadequate in terms of using data, data communication and total data literacy. Nearly half of them were partially inadequate or inadequate in comparing data and establishing relationships between data. The results indicated that pre-service teachers have certain deficiencies regarding data literacy

Using the Mixed-Meta Method to Assess Portfolios in Science Teaching
Get PDFThe purpose of this research is to assess portfolio studies in science education in Turkey. The mixed-meta method, which comprises meta-analysis and meta-thematic analysis methods, was used to assess quantitative and qualitative data through document analysis. Studies retrieved from certain databases within the scope of specific criteria were examined with the CMA and MetaWin tools for meta-analysis, and the effect size was found to be as great as g = 1.005 among the 17 studies included in the analysis. It was concluded that the usage of portfolios in science teaching has a good effect. 13 studies based on document analysis within the framework of the determined criteria were assessed with the Maxqda program using content analysis in the meta-thematic analysis. Themes were created, and certain codes were obtained according to these themes. These are the following themes: the effect of portfolios on academic achievement, classroom environment, and 21st-century skills; negative aspects of using portfolios; and recommendations for using portfolios in science education. It has been concluded that the research findings are consistent, and the usage of portfolios in science education has a favorable impact in a variety of ways
