his study examined awareness and utilization of health services under the
Social Security Scheme (SSB) among insured workers in Yangon’s Mingaladon,
Shwe- Pyi-Thar, and Hlaing-Thar-Yar townships. A cross-sectional descriptive study
was conducted in factories with over 200 workers and this study assessed awareness,
attitudes, health-seeking behaviors and utilization for 2025, while identifying barriers
through qualitative methods. A simple random sampling method was used: townships
were purposively selected, while six factories, 240 face-to-face interview participants,
and six key informants were randomly and purposively selected. The study found that
awareness of free medical care and leave was high, but knowledge of clinic hours was
poor. Awareness was significantly associated with education, work experience, and
type of job. Among participants, 47.6% used SSB health services, with utilization
linked to awareness, gender, education, income, and residence. Women, lower-income, and less-educated groups utilized services more. Barriers to utilization included long wait times, inconvenient clinic hours, and inadequate facilitie
Quality of Life After Cataract Surgery in Myanmar ( April Cho Aung, 2025)
Cataract is the leading cause of blindness in Myanmar, significantly impacting quality of life, particularly among the elderly. This study aimed to assess the post- operative quality of life among 180 patients who underwent cataract surgery at Yangon Eye Hospital. Using a quantitative, descriptive approach, data were collected through structured interviews based on the WHOQOL-BREF framework, covering physical, psychological, social, and environmental domains. Results indicated improvements in vision, independence in daily activities, emotional well-being, social participation, and environmental safety. Most respondents reported better sleep, increased self-confidence, greater engagement in religious and community life, and enhanced mobility and job opportunities. These findings confirm that cataract surgery contributes positively to physical health and social reintegration, especially in older adults. The study suggests to expend rural access to cataract services, integrating rehabilitation and psychological support post-surgery, and increasing public awareness to enhance outcomes and equity in eye healthcare
A Study on Rubber Plantation in Kachin State ( Case Study in Myitkyina) ( Halley Wynn, 2025)
This study examines the livelihood impacts of rubber plantations in Myitkyina, Kachin State, highlighting both benefits and challenges. A descriptive method was employed, integrating primary and secondary data. The primary data were collected through qualitative interviews with 25 rubber farmers, while secondary sources included government records, research articles, and other literature. Findings reveal that rubber plantation ownership is predominantly male-led, with most owners aged over 40 and highly educated. Large-scale plantations dominate, with over 80% owning more than 20 acres. Rubber farming has enhanced land use and improved living standards for 84% of respondents, though early years yield no income. Major challenges include skilled labor shortages, reliance on supplementary incomes, and limited policy awareness. Support needs to focus on infrastructure improvement, vocational training, affordable materials, and access to loans. Overall, rubber plantations contribute significantly to livelihoods, but sustaining benefits requires addressing labor, resource, and policy gap
A Study on Socio-Economic Status of Thanlyin Township in Yangon Division (Hay Mar Hlaing, 2025)
This study explores the socio-economic status of households in Thanlyin
Township. The objective of the study are to examine the socio-economic conditions
of Thanlyin Township and assessing the current households’ socio-economic status of
Thanlyin Township. The total respondents are 200 households which were selected
through random sampling, ensuring equal representation from urban (49.5%) and
rural (50.5%) areas. A cross-sectional descriptive survey design was adopted, utilizing
a structured questionnaire. The primary data was collected by survey, and the
secondary data were also gathered from local administrative offices and official
websites. Based on both primary and secondary data sources, focusing on Maslow’s
Hierarchy of Needs as the supportive framework. The indicators were categorized
across five levels of Maslow's model, including basic physiological, safety needs, love
and belonging, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs. The key findings are the
population that has basic physiological requirements that are generally satisfied but
struggles with higher-level needs like self-actualization and self-esteem but the safety
need are moderately met. Depending on the findings, the multifaceted strategy is
recommended to address Thanlyin Township's socioeconomic issues: expanding
access to clean water through infrastructure development; improving healthcare
accessibility and financial security through affordable insurance; increasing economic
stability and employment freedom through microfinance and job creation; reforming
education to increase opportunities for higher education; investing in mental health
and community engagement to promote emotional and psychological well-being; and
encouraging employment autonomy to give residents more control over their
livelihoods
The Effect of Deforestation on Climate Change in Myanmar. (Hnin Ei Phyu, 2025)
This study examines the relationship between human driving factors and
deforestation in Myanmar, focusing on how changes in forest area influence key climate
variables such as temperature, precipitation and humidity. The analysis utilizes
secondary data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Bank
open data portal from 1990 to 2022. The study applies quantitative methods, including
descriptive statistics, multiple linear regression analysis and simple linear regression
analysis to explore patterns and correlations. Descriptive statistics demonstrate that the
trend of declining forest areas, rising temperatures and fluctuations in precipitation and
humidity. Multiple linear regression analysis identifies population and agricultural land
as significant factors correlated with forest area. The results indicated that areas with
high population density and extensive agricultural land use are more vulnerable to
forest loss. Furthermore, simple regression analysis indicates a significant relation
between forest area and climate variables. Specifically, the forest area is positively
associated with temperature and variations in humidity levels. This study highlights the
environmental impacts of human activities on forest cover and local climate conditions.
It emphasizes the need for integrated land use planning, population management, and
sustainable agricultural practices to mitigate deforestation and its effects on
environmental impacts in Myanmar
A Study on the Awareness of School Teachers Towards Health-focused School Program ( Case Study: Primary School in Hlegu Township) ( Min Min Aye, 2025)
This survey evaluated the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of primary school
teachers in Hlegu Township, Myanmar, regarding Health Promoting School (HPS)
activities. While teachers demonstrated strong awareness of core HPS components like
sanitation and nutrition, gaps existed in training, research, and community outreach.
Despite high participation in refresher courses (95.6%), only 50.8% had formal health
training. Practices varied, with hygiene education often neglected (68.8%) and
inconsistent involvement in nutrition programs and insecticide spraying (28.4%).
However, awareness was lower for aspects such as training and research, community
outreach, and counseling support. Practical engagement showed disparities: daily
classroom sanitation checks and waste-free school initiatives were consistently high,
but health education on personal hygiene was largely neglected (68.8% not done).
Participation in insecticide spraying (28.4%) and regular school nutrition programs also
revealed significant gaps. The study concluded that, despite policy recognition and
historical success, fragmented implementation and systemic issues, such as low GDP
and insufficiently trained personnel, impede comprehensive HPS efforts in Myanmar.
The findings emphasize the need for targeted training and policy reinforcement in
weaker HPS areas, particularly concerning less emphasized aspects like research,
community outreach, and counseling support, to enhance overall program effectiveness
and student health outcomes
A study on Gold Mining and Its Impacts on Local Community (Case Study: Nawng Chaing village in Waingmaw Township, Kachin State) (T. Nu Mai Aung, 2025)
This study explores the environmental impacts and effects of gold mining on
social well-being of local communities in Nawng Chaing Village, Waingmaw
Township, Kachin State, Myanmar. Both artisanal and small-scale gold mining
(ASGM) and large-scale operations have contributed to significant environmental
degradation. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 55 randomly
selected households. The findings reveal water pollution due to mercury and cyanide
use, extensive deforestation, and air contamination, all of which pose serious health
risks and disrupt local ecosystems. Socially, gold mining has led to increased health
problems, weakened traditional livelihoods, and cultural disruptions. The study
recommends formalizing artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM), enforcing
environmental regulations, promoting mercury-free technologies, and reinvesting
mining revenues into local development. Community empowerment and participatory
governance are essential to mitigate long-term impacts and promote sustainable
development in the region
A Study on Performance and Challenges of Myanmar Coffee Exporters (Ni Ni Zin Oo, 2025)
This study investigates the factors affecting the performance of Myanmar's coffee exports and the challenges faced by coffee exporters in Myanmar. The data are analyzed by using descriptive method and factor analysis to identify key factors affecting the coffee export performance. The findings indicate that internal determinants particularly firm characteristics, export marketing strategies, and management commitment play a critical role in shaping export success. Limited financial resources, inadequate infrastructure, and a lack of foreign market knowledge were identified as major internal barriers. Export marketing weaknesses, especially in pricing, promotion, and quality control, also emerged as significant challenges. While management shows strong commitment to exporting, strategic planning requires further development. External factors such as intense competition, high interest rates, inflation, regulatory barriers, and political instability further constrain export potential. Factor analysis confirms that internal strategies and capabilities are more influential than external variables, emphasizing the need for firms to strengthen internal operations. The study highlights the importance of targeted support in marketing, financing, infrastructure, and capacity building to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of Myanmar’s coffee exports in global markets
Barriers to POS Adoption of Retail Merchants at Myanma Tourism Bank (Htet Htet Win, 2025)
This study primarily focuses on identifying the barriers influencing the adoption of
Point-of-Sale (POS) systems among food and beverage (F&B) merchants in the Yangon
region. A quantitative research method was employed, and primary data were collected
through structured questionnaires from 248 respondents out of an estimated 735 active
F&B merchants operating in Yangon. Secondary data were sourced from internal reports
provided by MTB’s Merchant Acquiring Department. The survey focused on merchants
who are current users of POS systems, with structured questionnaires utilizing a 5-point
Likert scale to assess agreement with statements related to cost, technical, operational,
market, and regulatory barriers. According to the findings, market and technical barriers
have a strong negative impact on POS adoption. Market barriers include customers'
preference for cash, misunderstandings about how POS systems work, and low awareness
of the advantages they offer. These have been the maximum vital factors. Technical
problems, such as poor internet connection and the fact that the POS system only supports
the MPU card scheme and does not accept QR payments, also affected adoption.
Operational barriers, such as difficulties in the settlement process and frequent staff
changes that require repeated training, had a significant negative effect. However, cost and
regulatory issues did not have a significant impact in this study. Based on these findings,
MTB should prioritize on solving market, technical, and operational problems. The bank
can do this by providing merchant education, running promotions, simplifying setup
processes, and giving training. By taking these steps, MTB can increase POS adoption and
help move Myanmar toward a digital and cashless economy
Assessing the Awareness on Tobacco, Alcohol, and Drug Use Among High School Students (Case Study: South Dagon Township, Yangon Region)(Nay Zar Tun, 2025)
This study assessed how school-based education, family communication, media
and internet exposure, and community awareness programs influence high-school
students’ awareness of tobacco, alcohol, and drug use in South Dagon Township,
Yangon. A descriptive design employed a structured five-point Likert questionnaire with
a simple random sample of 500 Grade 10–12 students from two public high schools.
Descriptive statistics, correlation, and multiple regression analyses were conducted. All
four factors showed significant positive effects on awareness; school-based education
was the strongest predictor, followed by family communication, community programs,
and media/internet exposure. These results stress the pivotal role of schools supported by
engaged families, credible digital messaging, and active community initiatives in shaping
informed attitudes toward substance use. Suggestions call for richer, interactive
curricula, parent training for open dialogue, responsible media campaigns, and expanded
community outreach to foster a coordinated, drug-free environment that empowers
adolescents to make healthy choices
