DETERMINING WATER CONDITIONS IN TAUNG THA MAN LAKE OF MANDALAY
Water quality assessment is crucial for sustainable water resource management, particularly in urban areas with growing environmental pressures. This study evaluates the water conditions of the Taung Tha Man Lake in Mandalay, Myanmar, using time series analysis and Water Quality Index (WQI) models. Historical water quality data, including physicochemical parameters such as Water Temperature (WT), turbidity, pH, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Electrical Conductivity (EC),were analyzed to identify trends and variations. WQI model was applied to classify
water quality and assess its suitability for domestic and recreational use. The results reveal significant fluctuations in water quality, influenced by anthropogenic activities and seasonal changes. This study employs regression and correlation analysis to examine the relationship between key water quality parameters and the Water Quality Index (WQI). The analysis reveals turbidity as the strongest predictor of WQI demonstrating an exceptionally strong positive correlation. EC and DO also show significant positive associations with WQI, while WT, TDS, and pH exhibit negligible
impacts. The multiple regression model explains 97.9% of WQI variance, indicating excellent predictive power. The study identifies seasonal patterns in parameter influences, with turbidity emerging as a dominant year-round factor. These findings provide crucial insights for water quality monitoring programs, suggesting that focus on turbidity, EC, and DO measurements may offer efficient WQI estimation. The results highlight the need for parameter selection strategies that balance predictive accuracy with measurement practicality, particularly in resource-constrained monitoring environments. This analysis contributes to optimize water quality assessment frameworks by identifying the most influential parameters while cautioning against redundant measurements
