THE EFFECT OF AGRICULTURAL CO-OPERATIVE MEMBERSHIP ON FARMER'S WELLBEING IN PYINMANA TOWNSHIP
The role of co-operative societies plays a significant part in Myanmar’s economic and social development, especially in rural and underserved areas. Among these, agricultural co-operative societies provide essential services that directly support farmers
by facilitating access to agricultural inputs and resources. This study investigated the nature of agricultural support offered by co-operative societies to their members and examined the impact of agricultural co-operative membership on the wellbeing of farmers
in Pyinmana Township. A total of 130 co-operative members were selected using a simple random sampling method. Primary information was obtained directly from respondents through the use of structured questionnaires, while secondary sources included official records and relevant literature. The findings revealed that both loan and fertilizer assistance had a significant positive impact on the wellbeing of farmers. These supports contributed to increased agricultural productivity, higher income, and greater capacity to invest in education, healthcare, and household needs. In contrast, seed support showed a negative and statistically significant effect, which was attributed to factors such as inconsistent distribution, low adoption, and dissatisfaction among members. The study concludes that co-operative membership can significantly improve farmer wellbeing when support services are timely, equitably distributed, and effectively utilized. It recommends enhancing loan delivery systems, ensuring fair distribution of agricultural inputs, and
increasing member awareness to maximize the impact of co-operative programs on rural development
