A STUDY ON THE EFFECT OF MYA SEIN YAUNG VILLAGE PROJECT ON RURAL DEVELOPMENT IN NYAUNGDON TOWNSHIP
This study examines the effect of the Mya Sein Yaung Village Project on rural development in Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. The research focuses on two villages, Kwin Kalay and Thellgone, and employs a quantitative survey combining descriptive and regression analyses based on primary data collected from 169 households. The methodology involves descriptive statistics to characterize the microfinance services and a multiple regression analysis to assess the project's impact on rural development. Findings reveal that while MSY offers affordable loans with a consistent interest rate and manageable durations, a notable proportion of borrowers perceived the loan approval process as difficult, and nearly half expressed dissatisfaction with the overall service. Furthermore, the rate of financial management training received by borrowers is identified as low. The regression analysis demonstrates that the MSY project has a statistically significant positive effect on rural development. Specifically, credit accessibility, characterized by Loan Amount and Adequacy, consistently emerged as strong positive predictors of rural development. While individual microfinance services like Training Received, Easiness of Loan Approval Process, and Satisfaction on the Loan Process positively influences development in isolation, their direct significance diminishes in the comprehensive combined model, here Frequency of Meeting emerged as significant alongside loan characteristics. The study concludes that although the MSY project
significantly contributes to rural development, there is substantial room for improvement in streamlining loan processes, enhancing borrower satisfaction, and expanding training programs to maximize its effects
