    Analysis of Students' Mathematical Communication Ability in Solving Algebra Problems by Considering Initial Ability and Habits of Mind

    Communication skills are one focus of learning mathematics. However, facts in the field show that students’ mathematical communication skills are still relatively low. This study aims to describe the mathematical communication abilities of 7th-grade students at SMP Negeri 9 Surakarta in solving algebra problems, viewed from initial ability and habits of mind. It employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The subjects of this study consist of 8 students selected by using a purposive sampling technique. We conducted data collection through questionnaires, tests, and interviews. The researchers tested the data validity using the triangulation method and analyzed them by reducing them on mathematical communication abilities, presenting them in descriptive form, and drawing conclusions. The result of data analysis showed that: 1) Students with high initial ability and high habits of mind can effectively explain mathematical ideas in writing, visually, and through mathematical models. 2) Students with high initial ability and low habits of mind are quite able to explain mathematical ideas in writing and can explain mathematical ideas in visual form but are less able to explain them through mathematical models. 3) Students with low initial ability and high habits of mind are quite able to explain mathematical ideas in writing and visually but are less able to explain them through mathematical models. 4) Students with low initial ability and low habits of the mind are less able to explain mathematical ideas in writing, quite able to explain mathematical ideas in visual form, and unable to explain them through mathematical models. This study provides new insights into students’ mathematical communication abilities, helping schools, teachers, parents, and students improve these skills

    Improving the Quality of Education Through the Implementation of Cambridge Curriculum: Examining the Advantages, Problems, and Optimization Efforts at SMPI Al Abidin Surakarta

    In Indonesia, many schools are beginning to implement international curricula such as the Cambridge curriculum in an effort to improve school quality, This study aims to review the advantages of the implementation of the Cambridge curriculum at SMPI Al Abidin Surakarta and find out the obstacles it faces and the solutions it can find. This research uses a qualitative approach using interview techniques, observation, and documentation as data collection tools. The results indicate that the implementation of the Cambridge curriculum can improve the English language skills of both teachers and students. In addition, students have a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts because the learning approach encourages conceptual understanding before applying procedures or formulas. However, there are also difficulties in the implementation of this curriculum, especially since the language of instruction is English and not all students are proficient. To overcome these difficulties, teachers can provide additional support to strengthen students’ vocabulary or emphasize explanations in Indonesian

    The Development of Company Profile Information System Using User-centered Design Approach

    The companyprofile information system is widely used to introduce the company to the targeted customers. This information system presents information about the services provided and the advantages of the company. The user-centered design (UCD) method is applied to ensure that the design of the system meets user needs. The object of this study is PT. Mitra Daya Electrindo, an electrical installation service contractor company. This study aims to produce an information system that presents the company profile in a more attractive and accessible way. The development of this research information system uses the waterfall method, consisting of analysis, design, development, testing, and maintenance. The UCD method of discovering requirements, designing solutions, prototyping, and evaluation is applied at the analysis and design stages. Based on the identification of user requirements, it was found that the company’s customers are classified as novice users, and the prototype was made based on this user persona. The single ease question (SEQ) score of the prototype test was 6.2, which showed that the information system was easy to use and user-friendly for web visitors. This interface wasdevelopedintoaninformation system using PHPandCSSprogramminglanguages, and the database uses MySql. The information system can display information about the services provided and allow the admin to log in and manage the company’s data

    Building a Good Relationship with the Body and Food Through Mindful Eating

    This study aims to examine the effect of mindful eating on body and food awareness in early childhood. This study was conducted at Sunshine Daycare, a child and foster care institution managed by the Teacher Education Early Childhood Education Study Program at Surabaya State University. We used a qualitative research and case study as our methods. Subjects were selected using purposive sampling, focusing on children aged 4-6 years, caregivers, and parents who actively participated in the daycare’s activities. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and participatory observations. Interviews were conducted with caregivers, parents, and children to explore their perspectives on eating behavior and the implementation of mindful eating. The key aspects observed during “mealtimes” in the afternoon and evening included eating pace, food selection tendencies, and children’s responses to mindful eating activities. The observation also emphasized children’s expressions of satiety and their recognition of hunger cues

    Fifth-grade Students and Food Literacy: Connecting Knowledge with Everyday Practices

    Food literacy is essential for elementary school students as it fosters healthy eating habits and equips them with the knowledge to make informed food choices. This study aims to describe the current state of food literacy among fifth-grade students. Employing a quantitative ex-post-facto design, the study utilized a multiple-choice test as the instrument to assess food literacy levels. The subjects of the research consisted of 32 fifth-grade students from a public elementary school in Bandung. Data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods. The findings reveal that while fifth graders possess a fair level of food literacy, it remains somewhat limited in scope. These results highlight the need for enhanced educational programs that focus on expanding students’ understanding of nutrition and food choices. The implications suggest that integrating comprehensive food literacy curricula in elementary education can significantly improve students’ health awareness and decision-making skills regarding food

    Is RADEC the Key to Unlocking Higher Levels of Creative Thinking Among Students? The Impact of Investigation

    Creative thinking is a critical skill that drives innovation and problem-solving in various fields. This study aims to investigate the impact of the read, answer, discuss, explain, and create (RADEC) learning model on enhancing students’ creative thinking abilities. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design, the research involved the application of RADEC in classroom settings to assess its effectiveness. Data collection was conducted using tests and observation sheets, with subsequent analysis performed through descriptive quantitative methods, difference tests, and n-gain calculations. The results indicate a significant improvement in students’ creative thinking across all indicators. Specifically, students demonstrated enhanced abilities in idea generation, problem-solving, and critical analysis. These findings suggest that the RADEC model is effective in fostering creative skills among students. The implications of this research highlight the potential of RADEC as a valuable instructional strategy in education, suggesting that its integration could lead to more innovative and adaptable learners

    Social Studies Learning in Elementary School: Is a Rational Decision-making Learning Model Needed?

    The purpose of this study is to explore information about the conditions of the objectivity of social studies, especially related to the development of decision-making abilities, and the needs of teachers for learning models with the specific purpose of developing students’ decision-making abilities. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method with subjects being 83 fifth-grade elementary school teachers in the Cimahi City area, determined using the purposive sampling technique. The instrument used was an interview guideline, the results of which were analyzed qualitatively.The results of the study indicate that fifth-grade elementary school teachers need a complete learning model with model books and learning tools to train decision-making abilities in elementary schools. The implication of this research is that social studies learning that is able to train decision-making skills in elementary school students through learning with a rational decision-making learning model

    Discovering Math Through Play: Insights From Observing the Traditional Beklen Game

    Beklen is a traditional game involving throwing and catching small objects with certain rules, often played in rural communities. This study aims to explore mathematical concepts that can be taught through the beklen game, with a focus on the potential application of the concept of integers. The research method used is descriptive with a data analysis approach that includes literature studies and fieldwork. Data were collected through direct observation for two weeks, interviews with local players, and document studies. The research instruments included observation guides, interview questionnaires, and documentation records. The results showed that the beklen game reflects the concept of integers naturally. In this game, closed objects are associated with positive numbers, open objects represent negative numbers, and neutral conditions describe zero. Through this game, students can understand basic integer operations contextually and interactively. In addition, beklen has great potential as an informal learning medium that connects cultural heritage with educational innovation. This study suggests that traditional games such as beklen be integrated into mathematics education as interactive and culturally relevant learning media. This approach both helps students understand mathematical concepts better and preserves local cultural values. The implication of this study is the need for the further development of the application of the Beklen game in formal educational environments and the evaluation of its effectiveness in improving students’ mathematical understanding

    This study analyzes the basic principles of character education in the Merdeka Curriculum grade II student book in the revised edition of the Civics subject published in 2022. The urgency of this research lies in the importance of analyzing character values in textbooks as the main medium for early childhood student character building. This study uses a combination of qualitative research methods and content analysis. This research uses the Merdeka Curriculum grade II student book on Civics as the main book and data source. The data must be analyzed thoroughly and accurately to determine the educational characteristics of the book. Based on the results of the study, there is data on character education values obtained in the Merdeka Curriculum grade II student book in Civics subjects, including religion, independence, cooperation, national spirit, environmental care, social care, courtesy, responsibility, discipline, and honesty. The values of character education in the Civics subject are religion, independence, cooperation, national spirit, environmental care, social care, courtesy, responsibility, discipline, honesty, friendly/communicative, peace-loving, patriotism, fairness, global diversity, tolerance, love of reading, and love for the country which have included the characters that need to be instilled in students. This study successfully identified the character education values contained in the Merdeka Curriculum grade II student book in the Civic Education subject. Teachers are expected to integrate character education values into more contextual and interactive learning to maximize the implementation of these values. In addition, ongoing teacher training and regular evaluations are essential to ensure students can understand and apply these values on a daily basis

    Green Psychological Climate Moderates the Effect of Green Self-efficacy and Green Human Resource Management on Employee Green Behavior: A Literature Review

    Mining companies face increasing pressure to integrate sustainable practices into their operations due to globalization and rising environmental awareness. In this context, Employee Green Behavior (EGB) plays an important role in fostering a more sustainable work environment. However, challenges such as an unsupportive organizational culture and production-driven pressures often hinder the adoption of these initiatives. Support from top management, along with sustainability-focused education and training, can increase employee awareness and engagement in environmentally friendly behavior. This study aims to analyze previous research to determine how the green psychological climate moderates the influence of Green Self-Efficacy and Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) on EGB. It addresses a research gap by establishing a conceptual framework that explores these interrelationships. Drawing on Social Cognitive Theory and Social Exchange Theory, the study provides theoretical grounding for understanding the dynamics between organizational context and employee behavior. As a literature review, this study contributes to the development of a new conceptual framework, offering valuable insights for both corporate practice and future research. It highlights the importance of cultivating a supportive psychological climate to amplify the positive effects of self-efficacy and GHRM on sustainable employee behavior, an area that has been underexplored in previous studies
