Impact of Trigger-to-Insemination Interval on Intrauterine Insemination Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study
Objective: To assess the Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) outcome based on different time intervals between ovulation trigger and IUI.
Methods: This study presents a retrospective review of 209 patients who received IUI at an Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) Clinic affiliated with Chettinad Super Speciality Hospital between 2013 and 2024. Couples with unexplained infertility, male partner aged 23-40 years and female partner aged 21-35 years with bilateral patent fallopian tubes were included in the study. The exclusion criteria were abnormal semen parameters, incomplete & frozen samples, double IUI and donor samples. The study cohort was divided into three subgroups based on the time interval between hCG trigger administration and IUI [Group I: Concurrent IUI with hCG trigger (n = 13), Group II: IUI performed at 24 hours following hCG trigger (n = 25), Group III: IUI performed at 36 hours following hCG trigger (n = 171)]. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS software, with categorical data evaluated by Chi-square test.
Results: Based on the different time interval groups, the clinical pregnancy rate was 7.69 % in Group I, 8% in Group II and 15.2% in Group III. There is no statistical significance between the different time interval of IUI and hCG trigger on IUI outcome (p=0.499).
Conclusion: According to our study, we could not find any correlation between the time interval of IUI and hCG trigger on IUI outcome
Heterotopic Ossification Originating from the Lacrimal Sac of a Child: A Case Report
Purpose: We present a case of hemolacria, which emerged as an unusual mass in the lacrimal sac.Case Report: A nine-year-old girl presented with intermittent unilateral hemolacria and episodes of dacryocystitis with no further remarkable medical or surgical history. CT scan indicated the presence of well-defined calcified tissue enclosed within the lacrimal sac. Following external dacryocystorhinostomy, well-formed firm tissue resembling bony tissue was extracted and sent for pathological evaluation, along with biopsies from the lacrimal sac. Histopathological analysis revealed heterotopic bone formation with nonspecific inflammation of the lacrimal sac. No underlying cause was discernible in the complementary assessment, and no recurrence was noted at one-year follow-up.Conclusion: A child with hemolacria was found to have heterotopic ossification in the lacrimal sac with no discernible underlying cause
Profiles of Child Internalizing and Externalizing Problems During the COVID-19 Pandemic in Jordan and Differences in Mothers’ Psychosocial Functioning
The COVID-19 pandemic upended children’s lives worldwide, with severe effects on low-income families. Longitudinal studies on child mental health trajectories during crisis periods are scarce, in particular in the Arab region. This study contributes knowledge about children’s mental health and helps to identify children at risk of mental health problems. We explored patterns of change in Jordanian preschool-aged children’s externalizing and internalizing problems during the COVID-19 pandemic and examined associations with mothers’ psychosocial functioning. Fifty mothers (38% from low-income families) reported on their child’s mental health in 2019 and three times during the pandemic (June 2020, December 2020, and June 2021). In June 2021, mothers also reported on their own psychological functioning. Using a longitudinal k-means clustering algorithm, we identified three internalizing problem profiles (low and stable, moderate and stable, high and increasing) and three externalizing problem profiles (low and stable, moderate and decreasing, high and stable). Externalizing problem profiles differed with regard to child sex (F [2,47] = 3.20, P = 0.050, η2 = 0.12). Furthermore, externalizing problem profiles differed in relation to mothers’ depressive symptoms (F [2,42] = 3.62, P = 0.04, η2 = 0.15). We found that young children from Jordan responded differently to the stressors of the COVID-19 pandemic. This heterogeneity can inform interventions targeting vulnerable children
Positive Reinforcement to Improve fine Motor Skills in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
ASD is characterized by challenges in social communication and interaction and repetitive behaviours that can significantly impact one’s daily functions. Fine motor skill deficits are common in children with ASD, so appropriate intervention is needed. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of positive reinforcement in improving fine motor skills in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The study respondent was a 9-year-old boy diagnosed with moderate ASD who had difficulty pressing toothpaste and opening food wrappers independently. The research was conducted using a single-subject experimental method (AB), and positive reinforcement was used to encourage the desired behaviour. Reinforcement, such as praise and high fives, is given immediately after the desired behaviour is demonstrated. The study involved direct observation and recording of behaviour from the baseline stage through followup sessions using thematic analysis. The results showed significant improvements in the subjects’ ability to perform the targeted motor skills independently. The subjects showed changes in fine motor skills from an average score of 1 with assistance to a score of 2. This study emphasizes the importance of positive reinforcement in improving fine motor skills in children with ASD and suggests its widespread application in therapeutic settings
Analysis of Work Stress Research Trends in Global Literature-based Work Environments: Bibliometric Study
This research aims to examine issues and research focus related to work stress experienced by workers in their work environment. Data was collected from Scopus with the keywords “Job Stress” AND “Work environment”. Documents tracked through the Scopus database have criteria ranging from 2020-2024 with the subject area psychology, document type article, and language English. 238 scientific publication articles were obtained and then analyzed using VOSviewer software to identify topic trends, collaborations and research developments. The research results show that studies regarding Job Stress are divided into three major theme nodes, namely human, adult, and psychology. Job Stress itself is included in the sub-themes within three big themes. There are other sub-themes such as bullying, burnout, anxiety, leadership, ageing, biomechanism, cross-sectional studies, employee, and absenteeism. This research can be a reference for researchers who will be able to research more deeply existing sub-themes or create new sub-themes in accordance with the development of a dynamic work environment. Apart from that, this research can also be a reference for other stakeholders such as organizations or institutions to know and pay attention to how the concept of job stress creates worker welfare in various sectors
Healthy Lifestyle and Suicidal Ideation Among Teenagers
To address the significant prevalence of mental health issues among adolescents, various measures must be implemented. Sustaining a healthy body is particularly important as it significantly influences adolescents’ psychological state. A teenager maintaining a healthy lifestyle is likely to reduce their risk of experiencing homicidal ideation. This study aims to investigate whether a healthy lifestyle can serve as a predictor for suicidal ideation among adolescents. This study employs a quantitative methodology utilizing a non-correlational experimental design, involving a total of 647 subjects. The data collection method involved using the Healthy Lifestyle Questionnaire (HLQ) and the Suicide Ideation Scale (SIS), which were analyzed through simple linear regression and multiple linear regression with the aid of Jamovi 2.3 software. The findings validated the proposed hypothesis, suggesting that a healthy lifestyle can serve as a predictor for suicidal ideation among adolescents. A healthier lifestyle is associated with a significantly lower value of suicidal ideation (p < 0.001), with an R value of -0.397. A healthy lifestyle accounts for 15.8% of suicidal ideation among adolescents
Medical Students’ Perceptions of Online Learning During COVID-19 Pandemic in Ibn Sina University
Background: The COVID-19 lockdown of Sudanese universities in March 2020 affected education at all colleges, notably medical students. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate final-year medical students’ perceptions and satisfaction with using mobile phones and Telegram at Ibn Sina University. Fortunately, these students were familiar with using mobile phones and Telegram as technological teaching and learning tools with some lecturers before the spread of COVID-19.
Methods: This evaluation-based design study was conducted from March to June 2020. A diagnostic test and a questionnaire were used to collect data. The diagnostic test consisted of five multiple choice questions (MCQs) on Control Infection Measures. The questionnaire consisted of three sections: (i) demographic characteristics of the students; (ii) students’ learning experience; and (iii) mobile learning design. A population of 135 students was targeted and a convenience sample of 40 medical students in their final fifth year voluntarily participated in this study. The questionnaire data were analyzed using SPSS, while the diagnostic test data were analyzed by comparing pass rates per item.
Results: The findings of the diagnostic test revealed that 94% of the students learned about what infections are, where they come from, and how to prevent them; 66% learned about standard precautions; 56% understood how to break the chain of infection; and 53% succeeded in recognizing diseases that are transmitted by infection, thus, they were aware about the epidemic process of an infectious disease. Students enhanced their knowledge of personal hygiene and built personal skills, experiences, and practices for reducing infection. The questionnaire findings revealed that the students showed positive perceptions, strong satisfaction, and positive learning experiences with a percentage score ranging from 67.5% to 95% indicating that they “agree” and “strongly agree,” respectively. Moreover, 75% of the students were able to get advice from their instructors whenever they needed and had the opportunity to study, gain knowledge, and interact with their peers successfully. Additionally, 82.5% of the students preferred asynchronous learning and teaching.
Conclusion: Mobile phones and the Telegram App have been accepted well by the students as indicated by the results of the present study and may be used more for academic activities. It is recommended that these tools can broadly be adopted in medical education due to their positive potential during this research
Taking Measures to Maintain Sanity
Islamic law recommends to preserve the mind, prohibiting aggression against it in any way, and imposing penalties for its violation. lslam paid attention to the mind and made it a condition for accountability, understanding, implementation, and a basis for dealing with the conditions of the soul, and gave it a role in deriving the legal rulings from their original sources. Islam opened the door of ijtihad for the mind. Ijtihad is defined as the mental act based on contemplation, thinking, and management. The mind is seen as the blessing that God bestowed upon man and distinguished him from the rest of the other creatures and through it man realizes right from wrong, the importance of his existence in this world, and his foundation in this universe. For this reason, God made man a sovereign on earth to build it. Islam has forbidden everything that hinders and disables the mind, such as alcohol and intoxicating substances. God prescribed deterrent punishment for consuming intoxicants due to their danger and extremely harmful effect on the individual and society. Sharia law took a number of legal preventive measures necessary to preserve the mind. It also emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy body, learning and seeking knowledge, and the contemplation of God’s creation
