    No full text
Background: Most research on postpartum depression (PPD) has predominantly focused on mothers, leaving a gap in understanding fathers’ experiences and help-seeking behaviors. Objective: This study aims to investigate the paternal PPD, addressing its complex causes and ultimately improving family health. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 270 fathers of newborns who referred to healthcare centers in Yazd, Iran from September 2023-September 2024 were enrolled. Participants were asked to fill the Edinburgh questionnaire to examine the prevalence and contributing factors of PPD. Results: A total of 270 fathers participated, with 146 daughters and 124 sons. The average depression score was 8.7 ± 6.2. The study found no significant difference in depression rates based on fathers’ education level (p = 0.09), the number of children (p = 0.1), or history of newborn neonatal intensive care unit hospitalization (p = 0.5). However, a significant correlation was identified between depression and monthly income (p = 0.002) and having a baby girl (p = 0.03). Overall, 81 fathers (30%) reported experiencing depression. Conclusion: The findings highlight the need for long-term planning to address paternal depression, emphasizing that healthcare systems should not only focus on maternal mental health but also recognize the psychological challenges faced by fathers. Supporting fathers is crucial for the well-being of both mothers and newborns

    No full text
Purpose: To investigate the confidence levels of optometry students in performing lensometry and to identify factors influencing it. Methods: This cross-sectional research was carried out on 51 undergraduate optometry students (26 fourth-term and 25 sixth-term) at Zahedan City, Iran, in 2024. Each participant provided feedback on the impact of the lensometry training on their confidence levels via a four-section structured questionnaire using a census sampling method. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, Fisher’s exact test, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and multiple regression model were employed to analyze information. The significance level was set at 0.05. All analyses were performed using SPSS ver. 26.0. Results: Fourth-term students had a significantly higher mean confidence score (55.19) than sixth term students (55.19 vs. 49.72; p = 0.03). The mean lensometry experience score was also notably higher for fourth-term than sixth-term students (11.88 vs. 10.40; p = 0.03). A significant positive association was detected between lensometry experience and student confidence (r = 0.69, p < 0.001). Additionally, there was a moderate direct association between adherence to basic principles and confidence (r = 0.53, p < 0.001). Confidence in performing lensometry for bifocal lenses (74.50%) was significantly higher compared to progressive lenses (31.37%), which correlated with more experience in bifocal lensometry (70.59% vs. 25.49%). Notably, 89.54% of students lacked experience in reading prism, resulting in lower confidence (21.85%). Conclusion: Sixth-term students exhibited lower confidence and less lensometry experience than fourth-term students. All students reported lower confidence in performing lensometry on complex lenses. Continuous evaluation of students, giving them appropriate feedback, providing basic training with computer simulators, and doing more exercises with these tools can be useful in solving this problem

From Silencing to Resistance: A Legal Analysis of the Comprehensive Implementation and Integrated Design of Anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) in Indonesia

    No full text
In various regions of Indonesia, SLAPPs have often befallen environmental activists, investigative journalists, human rights defenders, and indigenous peoples who are fighting for their customary land. Lawsuits filed by parties with economic or political power are often not based on strong legal substance, but rather are intended to tire, suppress, and intimidate public interest defenders. The approach used in this study is a type of normative legal research, namely based on analysis of library materials as data sources and legal principles and statutory regulations related to the problems being studied. The substance of the discussion includes the importance of the early dismissal mechanism as the main strategy in dealing with strategic lawsuit against public participation (SLAPP) cases, both in the criminal and civil realms. As well as the restorative justice approach in handling environmental cases, especially in the context of anti-SLAPP, by emphasizing that this mechanism can be an alternative to resolving cases that is more humane and does not burden environmental activists who are often positioned as suspects/defendants/convicts. This study is important to analyze the reality of the implementation of anti-SLAPP regulations legally, and to formulate recommendations for the formation of effective and contextual legal policies for law enforcement and protection of environmental activists in Indonesia

Work-leisure Balance as a Catalyst for Leader Engagement: Evidence from Four-star Hotel General Managers in Jakarta

    No full text
The hospitality industry operates in a dynamic, high-pressure environment, imposing significant demands on leaders, particularly General Managers (GMs) of four-star hotels in Jakarta. While prior research identifies work-life balance (WLB) as a predictor of employee well-being, its role in sustaining leader engagement remains underexplored. Existing literature disproportionately emphasizes frontline staff, neglecting how GMs replenish cognitive and emotional resources. Addressing this gap, this study investigates the impact of work-leisure balance on leader engagement among Jakarta’s four-star hotel GMs. The research employs a quantitative descriptive design, and data were collected via structured questionnaires from 56 GMs. The respondents were chosen by purposive sampling. Results demonstrate that work-leisure balance positively and significantly influences leader engagement. The findings advocate organizational policies prioritizing flexible scheduling, enabling GMs to allocate time for social interactions and professional development of employees. This study contributes to leadership and hospitality literature by redefining WLB’s utility for senior executives and offering practical insights for sustaining engagement in high-stakes roles

    No full text
This study examines the relationship between social media adoption and the performance of star-rated hotels in Batam City through the lens of the technology–organization–environment (TOE) framework. A quantitative research design was employed, with hotel managers selected as respondents due to their comprehensive understanding of the link between social media usage and organizational performance. Batam, as one of Indonesia’s primary gateways for foreign tourists, has experienced consistent growth in international arrivals, positioning the hotel industry as a strategic sector. In response to intense competition, hotels are increasingly required to embrace digital transformation to ensure long-term sustainability. The findings reveal that relative advantage (RA) and top management support (TMS) significantly influence social media usage, whereas competitive pressure (CP) does not. Moreover, social media usage (SMU) emerged as the most influential factor affecting hotel business performance and also serves as a mediating variable in this relationship. This study offers new insights into the growing literature on digital transformation in the Indonesian tourism sector by highlighting the key determinants of social media adoption and its role in enhancing organizational performance. These findings offer a conceptual foundation for future empirical research in the regional hospitality context
