    Local Cultural Conservation Through Socialization of Javanese Ethical Values

    Globalization has contributed to the erosion of local cultures worldwide, including in Indonesia. Therefore, it is necessary to raise awareness about the importance of conserving local cultural values and traditions. Indonesia, a diverse nation consisting of various ethnic groups that occupy an area stretching from Sabang to Merauke, is home to a wide range of local cultures, including that of the Javanese people. Javanese culture holds significant value and should be preserved, particularly its ethical values, which emphasize harmony and respect. These values must be preserved and passed down through continuous socialization within families, schools, and community institutions. Effective collaboration among these institutions is crucial to ensuring their survival. Preserving local culture plays a vital role in shaping national character.     The Effect of Flood Disaster Mitigation Counselling on Medical Student Awareness to Implement SDGs Agenda in Higher Education

    Raising awareness and flood disaster mitigation among medical students has become an important aspect of advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in higher education. In Gorontalo, floods are a recurring disaster, with 32 incidents recorded between 2019 and 2022. This study aims to examine the impact of flood disaster mitigation counselling on the knowledge levels of medical students at Gorontalo State University. The research used a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest- posttest approach, where questionnaires were administered before and after the counselling sessions. The study 89 students, selected through proportionate stratified random sampling from a population of 113. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Prior to counselling, most students had a moderate level of knowledge (77.53%), with fewer classified as good (13.48%) or poor (8.99%). Following the counselling, the majority reached a good knowledge level (69.66%), with the remainder classified as fair (30.34%). The statistical analysis indicated a significant improvement in knowledge after counselling (p-value = 0.000). These findings highlight the effectiveness of flood disaster mitigation counselling and underscore the need to integrate disaster management education and foster cross-sectoral cooperation in medical training

    Developing the Learning Trajectory of Grade VII SMP Students on Prism Volume Material in Problem-based Learning

    This research aimed to produce a learning trajectory on prism volume material in problem-based learning, carried out in three stages: preparing for the experiment, designing the experiment, and retrospective analysis. The research subjects were students of class VII in two Wonogiri junior high schools. The trial of Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) for cycle 1, or the so-called pilot experiment, involved 6 students of class VII E and trial of HLT for cycle 2, or the so-called teaching experiment, involved 32 students of class VII G. The instruments for data collection were observation sheet, interview protocol, and learning video recording. The prism volume learning trajectory started from defining the prism, determining the elements of prism, grouping examples and non-examples of prism, and finding the formula for the volume of prism. The results showed that the learning trajectory can assist students in finding and developing an understanding of the prism volume formula

    Selecting Optimal Knot Points and Oscillation Parameters Using Generalized Cross-validation and Unbiased Risk Method in Nonparametric Regression of Combined Spline Truncated and Fourier Series

    A nonparametric regression approach is suitable for the cases in which the shape of the pattern between the response variables and the predictor variables is not known. There are several methods in nonparametric regression, such as spline truncated and Fourier series. In both methods, determining the optimal knot point is crucial. Optimal knot points and oscillation parameters can be selected using the generalized cross-validation (GCV) and unbiased risk (UBR) methods. This study aimed to examine the GCV and UBR methods to select optimal knot point and oscillation parameters on the data on Indonesia’s economic growth rate in 2022. The estimation method used is ordinary least square (OLS). The results obtained used the GCV method because it has MSE value 1.42, which is smaller than MSE of UBR method of 10.614. The coefficient of determination for the GCV method is 89.34%. The optimal number of knot points and oscillation parameters are three and three for nonparametric regression estimator combined of spline truncated and Fourier series

    The Effect of Self-regulated Learning on Mathematical Communication Ability in Prospective Elementary School Teachers

    Every mathematics teacher, especially those teaching in elementary school should have mathematical communication ability. If the teacher do not have good mathematical communication ability, then the students may not understand mathematical concepts. In addition, being a teacher will always learn new things every day. Therefore, self-regulated learning is needed to have by elementary school teachers. This study will explain how self-regulated learning affects mathematical communication ability on prospective elementary schools teachers. To do so, we used quantitative method with correlational design. Forty-seven prospective elementary school teachers participated in this study. Data analysis was carried out quantitatively by using correlation and regressions analyses. The research results provide an overview of correlation and regression that can be used as a reference for future research on this topic

    This study aimed to determine the models of social science and natural science (IPAS) learning that are often used in the Emancipated Curriculum. IPAS focuses on the development of Indonesian citizens’ personalities. The author’s approach is a review of the literature. Any attempt by researchers to gather data and information pertinent to the issue or topic under discussion is referred to as a literature study. Journals are the main source of literature on this subject, and they are backed up by official documents and legal sources from domestic and foreign government agencies. Four learning models Problem-Based Learning (PBL), Project Based Learning (PjBL), Discovery Learning (DL), and Inquiry Learning (IL) are suggested to be used in the IPAS learning process in the Emancipated Curriculum. Given this, it is necessary to develop teaching materials that can help students understand the urgency of financial literacy, so that it can not only provide them with short-term benefits but also give them a strong foundation for a more stable and sustainable financial future. Financial literacy learning for elementary school students is important and a valuable investment for their financial future. The purpose of this study is to develop Monopoly Education Teaching Materials (MOLEK): Building Elementary School Students’ Financial Literacy. To achieve these goals, this study used research and development model with the following steps: 1) research and information collection 2) planning 3) initial product development and 4) initial trial 5) initial product revision 6) field trial 7) product revision 8) validation and field trial 9) final product revision 10) dissemination and implementation. The result of this study is the creation of the MOLEK, which has been tested and published in an accredited national journal

    Application of Digital Marketing in Building Brand Awareness in Tourism Destinations

    The marketing field continues to evolve due to increasing global competition and advancements in technology. The technological revolution, combined with changing consumer habits among newer generations, has introduced new ways to communicate with consumers, especially in the tourism sector. Today, digital marketing plays a crucial role in success of tourism businesses, significantly shaping their strategies to attract and engage consumers. In addition to digital marketing, brand awareness is also a key factor in the effectiveness of tourism promotion. Indonesia’s rich natural resources present a strong foundation for tourism, and it is expected that tourism managers in Madiun Regency will utilize the internet as a main marketing tool. This study aims to explore how digital marketing is used to build brand awareness in tourist villages in Madiun Regency. Using a qualitative research approach, the study examines three tourism sites: Pundensari Market Tourism, Watu Rumpuk Tourism, and Brumbun Tubing Adventure Tourism. The findings reveal that while digital marketing efforts to build brand awareness have been in place since the early stages of tourism village promotion, their implementation has faced challenges that have limited their effectiveness

    Short Medical Missions During Wartime: The Sudanese American Medical Association’s Experience in Sudan in 2024

    Background: The armed conflict that erupted in Sudan in April 2023 has severely disrupted the country’s healthcare system, displacing millions and straining the already fragile health infrastructure. Port Sudan, now functioning as the de facto capital, has experienced a significant population surge. In response, the Sudanese American Medical Association (SAMA) launched a series of short-term humanitarian medical missions in 2024 to support local healthcare delivery. This article outlines the implementation and key activities of these missions, including medical supply delivery and healthcare provider training. Methods: Three four-day missions were carried out in Port Sudan, led by US-trained Sudanese physicians. Local needs were evaluated in coordination with hospital departments. Because of import restrictions, mission participants hand-carried medical supplies and distributed them to two public hospitals. Clinical training was provided through a hybrid format, combining in-person workshops at hospitals and the Dr. Bushra Ibnauf Center for Learning and Humanitarian Relief Support with virtual lectures delivered by international experts. Results: The missions collectively delivered approximately USD 88,000 worth of medications and medical supplies, while also providing targeted training to 138 healthcare professionals in anesthesiology, emergency care, and trauma surgery. The training was tailored to address identified local needs and was conducted in smallgroup, hands-on formats. Conclusion: SAMA’s model illustrates how short-term, diaspora-led missions can support healthcare systems in conflict zones. The missions tackled critical gaps by prioritizing flexible logistics, local partnerships, and hybrid education while adjusting to complex operational constraints

    Case–Control Study of Toric Intraocular Lens Implantation in Congenital Cataract

    Purpose: To evaluate the visual and refractive outcomes after toric intraocular lens (IOL) implantation compared to monofocal IOLs in pediatric eyes with cataracts and preexisting corneal astigmatism. Methods: This case–control study was performed on 37 eyes of 37 children older than six years with visually significant congenital cataracts and corneal astigmatism greater than 1.75 diopters (D). The patients underwent lens aspiration with either monofocal (19 eyes) or toric (18 eyes) IOL implantation between June 2021 and December 2022. Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), near visual acuity, keratometry data, and residual astigmatism were evaluated preoperatively and on the fifth day as well as the first, third, and sixth months postoperatively. Results: Preoperative mean corneal astigmatism was 2.84 ± 0.51 D in the toric group and 3.05 ± 0.79 D in the non-toric group (P = 0.563). At the final follow-up, postoperative refractive astigmatism was 0.53 ± 0.33 D in the toric group and 2.33 ± 0.8 D in the non-toric group (P < 0.001). CDVA of 20/40 or better was achieved in 83.3% (n = 15) and 47.4% (n = 9) of eyes in the toric and non-toric groups, respectively (P = 0.038). Also, corrected near visual acuity of 20/40 or better was achieved in 100% (n = 18) and 78.9% (n = 15) of eyes in the toric and non-toric groups, respectively (P = 0.105). Conclusion: The study shows that pediatric cataract surgery with toric IOL implantation is an effective method of correcting preexisting corneal astigmatism.
