Unraveling Student Learning Outcomes Through Diagnostic Assessment: Did It Work?
In the context of providing effective “teaching at the right level,” the urgent need for effective assessment strategies in education becomes increasingly evident. Understanding student competencies is crucial for addressing learning gaps and tailoring instruction to meet diverse needs. This study aims to evaluate students’ achievement of competencies in mathematics through a diagnostic test. The method used is descriptive. Participants were 160 third-grade students from three public elementary schools in Bandung City. The instrument used was an initial diagnostic test, which referred to essential mathematics competencies for grade 3. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and qualitatively. The findings revealed that learning achievement deficits occurred across all materials, with a higher level of understanding in place value compared to other topics, and the lowest understanding in the characteristics of plane shapes. The implication of these findings is the need for a more focused and strategic teaching approach to address the learning achievement deficits across all mathematics topics while paying attention to the understanding gaps in each specific topic
Objective Conditions of Social Studies Learning in Improving Students' Conflict Resolution Skills in Elementary Schools
The purpose of this study is to determine the objective conditions of social studies learning in elementary schools in an effort to improve students’ conflict resolution skills. In social studies learning, students are taught various social skills, including how to manage conflict well. The research method used is a case study description with data collection instruments through interviews involving 10 teachers. The results of the study indicate that social studies learning in elementary schools is still not fully effective in helping students develop their conflict resolution skills. Some of the obstacles found include the lack of teaching methods that emphasize social skills and limited materials and media that support character education, especially in the aspect of conflict resolution. This study recommends the development of a more participatory learning model that can accommodate conflict resolution learning, so that students can learn to resolve conflicts in a peaceful and effective manner. This is expected to create a comfortable learning environment and improve the quality of social interaction between students in elementary schools
Fostering Scientific Attitudes Through Virtual Practicum: Exploring the Impact of PhET Interactive Simulations in Elementary Science Education
This study investigates the effectiveness of online practicum activities utilizing PhET interactive virtual simulations in fostering scientific attitudes among 5th-grade elementary school students. Conducted using a quantitative descriptive approach, the research involved 100 students from a private elementary school in Bandung, Indonesia. Data collection instruments included a questionnaire to gauge students’ perceptions of scientific attitudes in virtual practicums and an observation rubric based on video recordings to evaluate scientific attitudes displayed by students individually and in groups. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS 25, while video recordings were qualitatively analyzed to identify emerging aspects of scientific attitudes. The findings revealed that the highest perception scores for individual activities were observed in the aspects of curiosity (79.7), and honesty (80.25). Qualitative analysis of the practicum recordings indicated that the most prominent scientific attitude aspects exhibited by students working individually were accuracy, curiosity, responsibility, discipline, and honesty. These results suggest that online practicum activities supported by interactive PhET simulations effectively promote the development of scientific attitudes, making them a viable alternative for science learning in online education settings
What Factors Hinder Elementary Students' Understanding of Friction Concepts? Insights From Quantitative Descriptive Data
This study explores the factors affecting elementary school students’ understanding of force concepts, particularly friction. Using a quantitative descriptive approach, 61 randomly-selected fifth-grade students participated in a concept understanding test, which covered seven indicators: explaining, comparing, inferring, summarizing, classifying, providing examples, and interpreting. Results showed that students performed well in explaining (70.49%) and inferring (77.05%), while comparing (26.23%), classifying (37.7%), providing examples (22.95%), and interpreting (26.23%) had lower success rates. The main challenges identified were limited hands-on activities, insufficient teaching tools, and a lack of contextual learning. The study suggests that incorporating more interactive and experiment-based teaching methods, tied to real-life contexts, could enhance students’ understanding. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of considering factors such as teaching methods, prior knowledge, real-world experiences, and individual differences in learning styles and motivation to improve conceptual understanding
Strengthening Character Education for Elementary Students Through the Practice of Sungkeman (Indonesian Local Culture) With a Direct Interaction Approach
This study examines the effectiveness of the sungkeman practice (a local cultural tradition) in enhancing character education among elementary school students through direct interaction. Data from 30 students were analyzed based on indicators of respect, moral awareness, apologetic behavior, and politeness before and after the practice. Additional variables such as geographic conditions, parental education levels, and social environment were also considered. The results revealed significant improvements across all indicators: Respect increased by 54.05%, moral awareness by 59.79%, apologetic behavior by 168.85%, and politeness by 24.35%. Statistical tests confirmed the significance of these changes (p<0.05). The highest impact was observed in rural areas and among students with parents of moderate educational backgrounds, while urban and individualistic environments required supplementary approaches. The sungkeman practice has proven effective in fostering character education, emphasizing the value of cultural traditions in modern pedagogy. Recommendations include integrating this practice into the curriculum and involving the community to ensure its sustainability
The Influence of Import Duty on K-pop Album and Photocard Merchandise Purchase Decisions Among Young K-pop Fans in Indonesia
This research investigates the impact of import duties on purchasing decisions for K-pop albums and photocard merchandise among young K-pop fans in Indonesia. Focusing on individuals aged 12–25 who have purchased K-pop merchandise, the research explores how international trade policies, especially import duties, influence consumer behavior within the global entertainment industry. Data were collected through a survey using a structured questionnaire. The sample, consisting of 100 participants, was selected using non-probability purposive sampling and determined with the Lemeshow method. The questionnaire underwent a validity test (Pearson Bivariate Test), a reliability test (Cronbach’s Alpha), a heteroscedasticity test, an F-test (simultaneous), and a T-test (partial). Descriptive statistical analysis was used to examine merchandise purchasing patterns, the frequency of purchases, respondents’ understanding of import duties on K-pop merchandise, and how these duties influence purchasing decisions. The findings reveal that import duties have a significant impact on young Indonesian K-pop fans’ decisions to purchase albums and photocards
Understanding the Impact of Green Perceived Value on Purchase Intentions Through Green Satisfaction: Literature Review
Perceived value refers to consumers’ evaluation of the benefits gained from goods or services, particularly those that align with environmental sustainability. While green purchase intention is becoming increasingly important in consumers’ daily choices, relatively few companies have developed environmentally friendly products. Green purchase intention reflects consumers’ willingness to buy eco-friendly products, considering not only product quality but also the environmental impact of their use. Given inconsistencies in previous research, this study explores the potential relationship between green value perception, green satisfaction, and green purchase intention. The literature review aims to examine the influence of green value perception and green satisfaction on purchase intention and to offer theoretical insights into their relationship. The findings are intended to serve as a reference and guide for future researchers, helping to refine research approaches and address existing limitations. The study used a literature review methodology by collecting and analyzing a range of sources, including journal articles, books, and conference proceedings
