    No full text
As China pays more and more attention to vocational education, the urgency of high-quality employment for vocational college students is also increasing. Career planning courses, as a key comprehensive education for high-quality employment in vocational colleges, play a crucial role. However, according to the data, the resignation rate of vocational college students within six months has remained high in recent years, which shows that the teaching of career planning courses for vocational college students is still not adequate. This paper aims to study the teaching situation of career planning courses in vocational colleges in China and identify the problems and causes of such courses. Using the method of document research, the paper takes the career planning course teaching situation in Ningxia Vocational and Technical College as a sample for study. Through the research, it was found that vocational colleges generally have problems with outdated teaching methods, weak faculty teams, and insufficient course settings, mainly due to the lack of attention from the government, schools, and students themselves on career planning courses. This paper analyzes the problems and causes of the teaching of career planning courses and proposes relevant reform and innovation strategies to enhance the level of attention to career planning courses

Lexical Bundle Patterns in Malaysian Educational Texts: A Corpus-Based Analysis of English Language Textbooks

    No full text
In the era of digital learning, understanding the linguistic input in educational materials is vital for language acquisition. Lexical bundles, or recurring word sequences, significantly contribute to developing fluency and coherence, especially in academic contexts. This study examines the presence and types of lexical bundles in Malaysian Form 4 and Form 5 KBSM English textbooks, analyzing their frequency and functions. Using a mixed-method design with a corpus-based approach, data were collected from textbook reading passages and analyzed with AntConc 3.4.3 software. The study aims to assess whether these textbooks provide sufficient linguistic input to enhance students' English proficiency in academic contexts. The findings show a limited presence of lexical bundles, with 29 different 3-word bundles appearing 203 times in total. Four-word bundles were not found in the corpus. The bundles were categorized into three functional types based on Biber et al.'s (2004) taxonomy; stance expressions (55.2%), referential expressions (44.8%), and discourse organizers which were absent. This gap suggests a shortfall in the textbooks' ability to guide students in creating coherent and well-structured texts. The study emphasizes the need for more comprehensive inclusion of lexical bundles in textbooks to better support language acquisition and academic proficiency. It recommends that future textbooks incorporate a broader range of lexical bundles to better equip students for advanced language uses. This research contributes to discussions on the effectiveness of educational materials in second language learning and highlights the importance of targeted linguistic input

Unravelling The Level and Factors of Listening Comprehension Anxiety in ESL Flipped Classroom Setting

    No full text
Language anxiety has been an essential topic of discussion in English language learning since it acts as a filter that obstructs the learning process. Listening comprehension is the foundation to learning a target language thus, listening comprehension anxiety can have negative effects on second language (L2) learners’ performance. Meanwhile, flipped classroom model (FCM) has been introduced to facilitate language learning through the use of technological instruments in order to minimise language anxiety among L2 students. Hence, this study was conducted to examine the level of listening comprehension anxiety faced by L2 learners as well as factors influencing listening comprehension anxiety in flipped classrooms. The Foreign Language Listening Anxiety Scale (FLLAS) by Kim (2000) comprised of 33 items was adapted and used as the primary data collection instrument for this research. Ninety-three (n = 93) diploma students from UiTM Kelantan Branch who enrolled in the ELC121 (Integrated Language Skills I) course participated in the survey. Descriptive analysis was utilised to achieve the objectives of this study. The survey findings indicated that L2 learners experienced a moderate level of listening anxiety in a flipped classroom setting. This paper elaborates on the main area in which students are most anxious while listening to English text, that is the listening text and the strategies used. This finding will give educators some insights on how educational technology could be used to help reduce listening comprehension anxiety and eventually help L2 learners overcome their listening learning difficulties and improve their performance. Future studies are suggested to focus on listening comprehension anxiety experienced by male and female students as well as the comparison in listening comprehension anxiety faced by young and adult learners in flipped classroom setting

Systematic Literature Review: What Factors Influence Talent Management Among Secondary School Teachers in Malaysia?

    No full text
Talent management is regarded as a critical component in ensuring an organization's long-term viability. Furthermore, talent management for the education sector in Malaysia has recently captured attention of researchers. On the other hand, despite the fact that the focus in the context of talent management was clearly stated in the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013–2025, talent management in education still has room for improvement in order to ensure a better future for our education sector. For example, only few researchers are conducting research on aspects of talent management in education, such as talent identification, teacher talent development, teacher retention, school talent culture, and so on. As a result, the primary goal of this article is to review the research article with a systematic review as an added value. PRISMA is used to guide the review process (the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses). To obtain the published article, however, three databases were used: Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. According to the articles, four themes emerged from the articles. The themes are as follows: 1) teacher talent identification; 2) professional development for teachers; 3) teacher retention; and 4) school talent culture. As a result of the thematic analysis in this SLR article, the talent management for education model and approach can be used by policymakers, school administrators, and others to ensure that teachers in their organization are retained
