    No full text
Hydropower development has emerged as a key driver of sustainable progress in Malaysia, as demonstrated by the ambitious Baleh Dam project, underscoring the nation's dedication to renewable energy. This study primarily focuses on economic security. Therefore, this research scrutinizes the potential impact on the Iban community residing in Ulu Baleh, Kapit, from a human security perspective. The security-development nexus intricately examines the relationship between dam development and economic security of the affected community in Nanga Antawau especially the Iban in Baleh, Kapit.  The Iban community's profound reliance on ancestral lands and rivers for sustenance and cultural identity renders them susceptible to displacement and resource loss. Previous large-scale dam projects have wreaked havoc on local communities, and the estimated 1,345 square kilometres of inundated land by the Baleh Dam raises concerns about human rights and well-being for the Iban. Moreover, this study underscores the multidimensional nature of the security concept, encompassing both traditional and non-traditional threats. We will explore in-depth into the impacts on the Iban community's economic security. By doing so, this research contributes valuable insights to the ongoing discourse on security, development, and livelihood preservation. It emphasizes the imperative for sustainable progress that upholds the rights and interests of local communities. The findings of this paper illuminate the interrelationship between security and development, revealing that the 1,392-strong Iban community's right to access a peaceful livelihood and economic security is closely tied to the Baleh Dam, which has proven to be economically destructive in Nanga Antawau, Kapit, Sarawak

Improving self-management in floating elderly hypertensive patients is especially critical for controlling BP to maintain stability. A multi-center, patient and outcome-assessed blinded, randomized trial was conducted in Ningxia, China, recruiting 200 patients with floating elderly primary hypertension and dividing the randomized blocks into three intervention groups of 50 each and a control group of 50 after controlling for gender using stratification. The main contents of the intervention were regular medication+salt-reduced diet+aerobic exercise; the intervention time was 2 months. The online intervention group used (TikTok+WeChat+Telephone) mode, and the offline intervention group used (Lectures+Brochures+1-on-1 consulting) mode. The online and offline combined intervention group used the mode (TikTok+WeChat+Telephone + Lectures+Brochures+1-on-1 consulting). The primary outcome measure was dominated by blood pressure change, and secondary outcomes were the Medication Adherence Scale scores, Therapeutic Attitudes and Beliefs scores, and Self-management scores. The results shows that the combined online and offline intervention was the most effective at improving self-management, attitudes, practices, and BP control compared to the offline and online interventions alone. The differences between the groups were statistically significant (p < 0.05). The combined approach resulted in the most significant increases in self-management (43.33 point increase), attitudes (39.49 point increase), medication adherence (2.34 point increase), and practices (39.89 point increase) scores. It also led to the most significant reductions in systolic (-11.46 mm Hg) and diastolic (-7.15 mm Hg) BP. These findings suggest that integrating online and offline health education modalities may be the most effective approach for improving hypertension management in this population

    No full text
Past studies that have been carried out on language choice commonly look at issues related to identity, language planning and language policy rather than the factor that influences the language choice of bilinguals. There is a dire need for more research that looks into the language choice of bilinguals and the factors affecting it. Hence, this study investigates the language choice and the factors that influence the language choice of Malay-English bilinguals for communicative purposes in family, neighbourhood, education, employment and religious domains. A qualitative approach via online semi-structured interview was conducted. The participants of this research were Malays from Kuala Lumpur who speak English as their first or dominant language. A total of 10 interviewees participated in this. The results of this study showed that Malay-English bilinguals’ language choice in the family, neighbourhood, education and employment domains is both Malay and English, whereas, in the religious domain, it is Malay. Aside from that, participants, situation, content, and function highlighted by Grosjean (1982) influence their language choice in all the domains in this research. The findings of this study will shed some light on the factors that influence the language choice of these bilinguals in the five domains and could be used as a future reference for people who are interested in studying the language choice of Malay-English bilinguals in Malaysia

    No full text
Anthropomorphic design, which attributes human-like characteristics to non-human objects, has become a focal point in marketing and artificial intelligence. While this strategy is recognized for fostering emotional connections and influencing consumer behavior, existing research presents mixed findings, often due to variations in individual traits and situational factors. This review aims to systematically analyze the evolution and impact of anthropomorphic design on consumer emotions. Through a synthesis of key studies, the review identifies gaps in the literature and explores the mechanisms through which anthropomorphic design shapes emotional responses. The findings reveal that anthropomorphic design generally enhances consumer engagement but its effectiveness is contingent upon contextual and individual differences. The review concludes by offering recommendations for optimizing anthropomorphic strategies in branding and product design, while suggesting avenues for future research to expand the theoretical framework in emerging fields such as AI and digital marketing
