Gamification in English Language Learning for Seafarers in Preparation for Marlins Test: Enhancing Motivation and Engagement
This study explores the impact of gamification on motivation and engagement in English language learning among seafarers preparing for the Marlins test. Employing a mixed-methods approach, quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews were conducted to investigate the effects of gamification. The theoretical framework integrates gamification principles and Self-Determination Theory to examine how game-like elements enhance intrinsic motivation and learning outcomes. Results indicate that gamification fosters engagement by providing clear goals, immediate feedback, and a sense of achievement. The findings suggest practical implications for maritime education in creating autonomous learning environments that sustain motivation and enhance language proficiency
Analyzing the Alignment of Writing Materials in Bahasa Inggris Work in Progress with the Genre-Based Approach Stages
This study analyzed the implementation of the Genre-Based Approach (GBA) in the Bahasa Inggris Work in Progress textbook, with the aim of evaluating its effectiveness in supporting writing instruction in Indonesian senior high schools. Using qualitative content analysis, the study examined how writing tasks aligned with Cahyono’s (2012) GBA framework: Building Knowledge of the Field (BKOF), Modeling and Deconstruction of the Text (MDT), Joint Construction of the Text (JCOT), and Independent Construction of the Text (ICOT). The findings revealed that although the textbook was structured according to GBA principles, its implementation across the stages was inconsistent. BKOF and MDT were generally well-supported through vocabulary-building activities and teacher-led instruction, but JCOT lacked meaningful peer collaboration, and ICOT relied heavily on teacher intervention, which limited student autonomy. Moreover, the absence of explicit linguistic analysis in the MDT stage hindered students’ understanding of genre-specific language features.This study contributed to the field of textbook evaluation by identifying practical gaps in the design and delivery of GBA within EFL writing materials. It also offered pedagogical insights for improving GBA implementation, including the integration of peer interaction, metalinguistic instruction, and self-assessment tools to enhance student-centered learning. Future research should explore how teachers mediate these materials in classroom contexts and how students engage with genre-based instruction in practice
Development of a Teachmint-Based Digital Module to Improve Students’ Learning Effectiveness in Pancasila Education
This study aims to analyze (1) the potential and conditions of development, (2) the process, (3) the product, and (4) the attractiveness of teachmint-based digital modules for students. The research method adapts Borg and Gall's research and development (R&D) with a population of class VIII students and a sample of 60 students. Data collection was done using questionnaires, observations, questionnaires, and documentation, while data analysis was done using descriptive statistical analysis techniques and t-tests. The results of the study show: (1) the potential and conditions of module development based on expert validation obtained very valid results and can be used without revision, with a percentage of material experts 90%, media experts 77.5%, and design experts 76%. (2) The process of developing teachmint-based digital learning modules showed an effectiveness level of 91%, which is included in the very effective category. Pengembangan Bahan Ajar Berbasis Kearifan Lokal Ritual Mangokal Holi Untuk Meningkatkan Kesadaran Sejarah pada Siswa Sekolah Menengah Atas
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan produk bahan ajar berbasis teknologi dengan mengintegrasikan kearifan lokal ritual mangokal holi dalam pembelajaran sejarah kelas X dan terintegrasi dengan kurikulum merdeka fase E kelas X. Model pengembangan yang digunakan yaitu model ADDIE (analysis, design, development, implementation, dan evaluation). Penelitian dilakukan dengan studi pendahuluan yang berfokus pada proses pembelajaran sejarah dan kesenjangan yang terjadi dalam pembelajaran sejarah di SMA N 1 Bandar Pasir Mandoge. Hasil studi pendahuluan yaitu siswa sangat membutuhkan bahan ajar yang terintegrasi dengan teknologi dengan persentase kebutuhan sebesar 89,2%. Analisis kebutuhan digunakan untuk melihat ketertarikan siswa pada bahan ajar yang dikembangkan. Perencanaan dan rancangan pembelajaran sejarah pada bahan ajar yang dikembangkan membutuhkan validasi ahli dan uji coba pengguna untuk melihat kelayakan bahan ajar ritual mangokal holi. Hasil validasi ahli media sebesar 96%, dan validasi ahli materi sebesar 98% dengan kategori sangat layak untuk digunakan. Hasil uji coba pengguna skala terbatas memperoleh skor rata-rata sebesar 4,4 dengan kategori baik, dan skala luas memperoleh skor rata-rata 4,6 dengan kategori sangat baik. Instrumen angket yang digunakan untuk melihat kesadaran sejarah siswa dianalisis melalui indikator kesadaran sejarah dengan hasil reliabilitas butir instrumen sebesar 0,800 > 0,7 menggunakan cronbach alpha. Selanjutnya dilakukan pre test, implementasi, dan post test dan dilanjutkan dengan uji efektivitas bahan ajar ritual mangokal holi dengan uji t independent sample t test memperoleh nilai signifikansi (2-tailed) sebesar 0,00 < 0,05. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa bahan ajar yang dikembangkan memenuhi kelayakan dan efektif untuk digunakan dalam pembelajaran sejarah
Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) dalam Proses Digitalisasi Pembelajaran di Perguruan Tinggi
This study aims to describe how Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) support the digitalization of learning in higher education, with a focus on their contribution to improving the quality of higher education. Using a qualitative method based on literature studies, this study analyzes various academic sources and MOOC implementation practices at the global and national levels. The results show that MOOCs have great potential in expanding access to education, providing learning flexibility, and supporting the development of essential skills, such as digital literacy and cross-cultural collaboration. In addition, MOOCs contribute to increasing the competitiveness of higher education through global collaboration and diversification of learning methods. However, challenges such as uneven infrastructure and low participation rates require a strategic approach, such as the integration of hybrid learning and innovation in course design. With optimized implementation, MOOCs can be a major catalyst in building inclusive, adaptive, and globally competitive higher education
Integrasi Budaya Kerja Industri dan Magang Guru Untuk Meningkatkan Mutu Pembelajaran di Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh budaya kerja industri dan program magang guru produktif terhadap mutu pendidikan di SMK Negeri se-Kabupaten Kendal. Fokus utama penelitian adalah untuk melihat sejauh mana masing-masing variabel berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan mutu pendidikan vokasi. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan metode survei. Responden terdiri dari guru produktif di sejumlah SMK Negeri yang dipilih melalui teknik stratified random sampling. Instrumen penelitian berupa angket yang telah melalui uji validitas dan reliabilitas. Analisis data dilakukan dengan regresi linier berganda dan uji F. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa budaya kerja industri memberikan pengaruh signifikan terhadap mutu pendidikan dengan kontribusi sebesar 37,72%, di mana dimensi inovasi menjadi yang paling menonjol. Sementara itu, program magang guru juga berpengaruh signifikan dengan kontribusi 20,10%, dengan dimensi supervisi dan dukungan industri sebagai aspek terkuat. Secara keseluruhan, kedua variabel ini memberikan kontribusi sebesar 57,8% terhadap mutu pendidikan, sedangkan sisanya dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain di luar cakupan penelitian. Temuan ini menekankan pentingnya integrasi nilai-nilai budaya kerja industri dalam proses pembelajaran serta penguatan kemitraan sekolah dengan dunia usaha dan industri melalui program magang guru yang relevan dan berkelanjutan. Penelitian ini diharapkan menjadi dasar pertimbangan dalam merumuskan kebijakan peningkatan mutu pendidikan vokasi yang mendukung kebutuhan dunia kerja
The Role of Islamic Religious Education Teachers in Shaping Pancasila Student Profiles in Junior High Schools
This study seeks to examine the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in shaping the Pancasila Student Profiles at SMPN Satu Atap 1 Rawamerta, Karawang Regency. A qualitative approach with an exploratory case study method was employed. Data were collected through interviews with PAI teachers, principals, and students, as well as classroom observations and documentation of learning activities. The data were analyzed using the interactive analysis model by Miles and Huberman, which involved data collection, reduction, and presentation, with validity checks through triangulation. The findings reveal that PAI teachers serve as educators, facilitators, and motivators in instilling Pancasila values, such as faith, noble character, and mutual cooperation, through discussions, extracurricular activities, and community-based projects. However, challenges such as diverse student backgrounds, low interest in character-building activities, and limited curriculum time were identified. To address these issues, technology and community involvement were utilized to support the learning process. The implications of this research highlight the need for a more adaptive approach to religious education, with a focus on enhancing the role of technology and community. Future research should expand the scope to include other schools and a broader range of student backgrounds to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the role of PAI teachers in shaping the Pancasila Student Profile
The Power of Pedagogy: Teacher Language Authority in EFL
Although power teacher has been widely studied, many investigations lack linguistic depth, leaving the nuanced meanings of classroom discourse underexplored. This study critically examines how teacher power is linguistically enacted and perceived in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom interactions and how it shapes student learning. The research aims to (1) ident ify the types of power enacted by teachers, (2) explore students’ perceptions of these power dynamics, and (3) assess their impact on EFL learning. A qualitative case study design was employed, drawing on Fairclough’s (1989) Critical Discourse Analysis and Raven’s (2008) typology of social power. Data were gathered through classroom observations, interviews, and document analysis and analyzed using Fairclough’s three-dimensional framework: description, interpretation, and explanation. The findings reveal five types of teacher power: legitimate (institutional authority), expert (subject knowledge), referent (student admiration), reward (praise/incentives), and coercive (disciplinary control). Information power was absent, as it is typically exercised in administrative settings. Students largely accepted teacher authority, shaped by early-established classroom norms. These power enactments positively influenced student motivation, engagement, critical thinking, confidence, and behavior. This study highlights how ethically exercised teacher power contributes to respectful and effective EFL teaching. The findings illuminate the role of discourse in constructing authority and offer implications for teacher education aimed at fostering inclusive, empowering pedagogies. Although context-specific, the study encourages further exploration of power relations across diverse educational settings to advance EFL pedagogy
Integrasi Nilai-Nilai Kearifan Lokal dalam Pendidikan Karakter di Sekolah : Tinjauan Literature Review
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji nilai-nilai kearifan lokal dalam pendidikan karakter di sekolah. Nilai kearifan lokal seperti Siri' na Pacce (Harga diri dan empati), Sipakatau (Saling menghormati), Sipakalebbi (Saling menghargai), Sipakainge (Saling mengingatkan) dari Sulawesi Selatan yang memiliki relevansi kuat dalam mendukung pendidikan karakter utama (Kemendikbud) yang kontekstual dan bermakna. Jenis penelitian ini adalah Sistematik Literature Review (SLR) dengan tahapan yaitu (i) Merumuskan Question Research (QR) (ii) Proses pencarian artikel (iii) Kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi (iv) Quality Asesment (QA) (v) Analisis litertur yang diterima oleh QA (vi) Membuat kesimpulan. Proses pengumpulan data meliputi pencarian artikel dari berbagai sumber nasional yang terkait dengan topik pendidikan karakter berbasis kearifan lokal budaya Sulawesi Selatan. Penelitian dilakukan secara sistematis menggunakan Google Scholar dengan frasa pencarian: " Kearifan Lokal”, “Pendidikan Karakter di Sekolah” dan dibatasi pada artikel yang diterbitkan antara tahun 2023-2025. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini mengikuti panduan dari diagram PRISMA untuk memberikan transparansi dalam proses seleksi literatur. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa integrasi kearifan lokal dalam pendidikan karakter di sekolah memberikan dampak positif terhadap pembentukan karakter siswa, meskipun terdapat kendala yaitu kurangnya sumber daya pembelajaran dan kolaborasi yang tidak memadai antara sekolah dan masyarakat sekitar terkait dengan kearifan lokal daeah setempat. The Influence of School Culture on the Performance of Senior High School Teachers
This study aims to analyze the influence of school culture on teacher performance at SMAIT Mentari Ilmu Karawang. A positive school culture is expected to improve teacher performance, which in turn will affect the quality of education in the school. This study uses a quantitative approach with a regressional survey method to analyze the relationship between school culture as an independent variable and teacher performance as a dependent variable. Data was collected through a questionnaire filled out by 35 teachers. The results of the analysis showed that school culture had a positive and significant effect on teacher performance, with a correlation coefficient of 0.719 and an R-Square value of 51.7%, indicating that more than half of the variation in teacher performance can be explained by school culture. However, this study also found that the dimension of teacher and student involvement in school activities still needs to be improved. The implication of this research is the importance of creating an inclusive and collaborative school culture to improve teacher performance. The suggestion for schools is to strengthen teacher and student engagement and provide greater space for participation in decision-making to improve school culture and support teacher performance improvement more effectively
