This qualitative study explores preschool children's experiences of shared reading sessions, focusing on their sense of participation and emotional engagement. The aim is to center children's own perspectives, which are often overlooked in favour of adult interpretations in existing research. The study is based on a phenomenological approach and includes eleven children aged four to five from two Swedish preschools. Data were collected through video recordings of reading sessions, stimulated recall interviews, and semi-structured conversations with the children. The results show that children's feelings of participation vary—some express a clear desire to influence the choice of book and actively engage with the story, while others prefer adult guidance. Emotional responses are shaped by the reading environment, the content of the story, and the opportunity for interaction. The study highlights the importance of teachers being attentive to children's verbal and non-verbal cues and providing space for their voices in pedagogical settings. Shared reading emerges not only as a tool for language development but also as a meaningful social and emotional experience. The thesis concludes with didactic implications and suggestions for future research.
Cohort profile : The Halmstad University Register on Pupils with Intellectual Disability
Background: Knowledge about the living conditions among people with intellectual disabilities (ID) is globally scarce. Even in countries with good access to registers, this is often partly due to the absence of a single, comprehensive, nationwide register of individuals with ID or the inability to identify all individuals with ID within existing registers. In Sweden, the Halmstad University Register on Pupils with ID (HURPID) was established to fill this gap. HURPID is based on the population that left the Swedish Upper Secondary School for pupils with ID (USSID) in 2001–2020. Most young people with ID in Sweden are expected to attend USSID. The aims of this paper were to describe the construction, structure, and content of HURPID, to validate the register, and to provide examples of what it has been used for. Methods: Based on school leaving certificates or corresponding, personal identity number, gender, educational programme, municipality where the school was located, and graduation year were registered. HURPID has been linked with various registers in projects addressing research questions about the target group's living conditions. Results: HURPID consists of 26,910 individuals (11,078 women, 15,832 men), born in 1973–2003. Through linkages, knowledge has been gained about occupational patterns, psychiatric comorbidity, mortality, substance use, criminality and victimisation. Conclusions: HURPID demonstrates the highest completeness of individuals with ID of working age in Sweden. This makes it possible to follow the development of adolescents with ID over time. As one of the most extensive and comprehensive registers of individuals with ID in the world, it also forms a unique register internationally. © 2025 The Author(s). A qualitative study of real estate agencies: The importance of leadership within the real estate industry : The perceived impact of leadership style on the real estate agent's performance and work environment
Title: A qualitative study of real estate agencies: The importance of leadership within the real estate industry -The perceived impact of leadership style on the real estate agent's performance and work environment Background: The real estate profession is demanding with high workload, irregular hours, and constant availability, leading to stress and poor work-life balance. Only one-third of real estate agents have a good balance. Stress, recognition, development opportunities, and work environment affect job satisfaction and performance. Leadership plays a central role in setting goals, providing support, and fostering motivation, which in turn strengthens performance and engagement. Purpose and research questions: The purpose of this study is to examine how leadership styles are perceived to influence sales performance and the work environment among real estate agents. The two research questions that have been formulated are: "How are leadership styles perceived to affect real estate agents' performance in the real estate industry?" and "How do leaders perceive the relationship between leadership, work environment, and performance among real estate agents in the industry?" Methodology: The study takes a subjective perspective to understand how individuals perceive the impact of leadership. Through interviews, respondents' personal views are interpreted, providing deeper insights than objective methods. A hermeneutic approach is used by the authors to analyze data, allowing for multiple interpretations of the collected data. Frame of references: The leadership style affects the work environment, performance, and organizational success. Research shows that leadership behaviors impact employees' performance and perceptions of their work. Stress, often caused by relationships, obstacles, and high workload, is common. Engagement increases when employees feel meaning, responsibility, and feedback, while control through rewards can hinder motivation. Method: The study uses a deductive approach based on previous research to examine how different leadership styles affect real estate agents, and the research strategy applied is case studies. A qualitative method is considered appropriate, as the focus is on individuals in leadership roles. The collected data is analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns and themes. Conclusions: The study shows that leadership influences real estate agents' performance by creating supportive and secure work environments, where clear goals and individual adaptation promote long-term success. Effective leadership balances demands and support, fostering well-being and sustainability in the profession
Safety culture co-creation in forest industry manufacturing mills – A systematic literature review and conceptual model
The forest industry has high accident and injury rates, and although research and practice recognize safety culture playing an important role in sustainable accident prevention, research about how safety culture is formed jointly is scattered among disciplines and knowledge traditions. Thus, this review adopts a co-creation lens to synthesize conflicts, agreements, and future research avenues of safety culture in the forest industry and comparable high-risk manufacturing and processing industries. To this extent, a descriptive statistical analysis of 60 articles and a systematic literature review of 25 articles were conducted and combined to develop a conceptual model. The descriptive statistical analysis shows a highly international field with few international and multidisciplinary collaborations. Quantitative methods and health and engineering fields are dominant, calling for more diverse research designs and increased international and interdisciplinary collaboration. The systematic literature review synthesizes the current research landscape, showing that safety culture is co-created in response to organizational, individual, contextual, and interventional factors. Additionally, it is shown that safety culture co-creation happens dynamically in horizontal and vertical directions in the organization, but also extends to external stakeholders. Thus, safety culture co-creation is no one-way street, but rather a dynamic and inclusive dialogue that happens vertically and horizontally within an organization, but also in relation to external factors and stakeholders. Training, communication, knowledge sharing, and collaboration are identified to be effective leverage points for practitioners to foster effective safety culture co-creation. © 2025by the authors
This study aims to investigate the opportunity of using fully wood-based joints in roof trusses, consisting of LignoLoc wooden nails and timber pine plywood, as an alternative to traditional fasteners. The LignoLoc nail is made from compressed beech wood and is driven into the timber without pre-drilling. Through heat and friction, a weld-like bond is formed between the nail and the surrounding wood. In combination with gussets made of pine plywood, a joint is created that is both biodegradable and free from metal, which can reduce environmental impact and facilitate recycling. The work has been conducted as a theoretical study with a focus on structural design according to Eurocode 5. The load-bearing capacity of the wooden nail joints has been analyzed through calculations of shear force, tensile force, and moment in various joints of a 6-meter span truss. Design data has been generated using the software tool MathCAD. The result show that the wooden nails have good load-bearing capacity under both tensile and shear loading, and that it is possible to design trusses with wooden nail joints that meet the design requirements of Eurocode 5. The conclusion is that the LignoLoc nail, in combination with pine plywood, has the potential to be a sustainable alternative to metal nail plates. At the same time, there are practical, geometrical, and regulatory obstacles that first need to be further investigated and addressed before this technology can replace conventional solutions on a larger scale
The Bluethroat (Luscinia svecica svecica) and the Lapland Longspur (Calcarius lapponicus) are two characteristic species of the Swedish tundra. These species have different habitat requirements and are affected in different ways by ongoing climate change, providing an opportunity to study their ecology. The aim of this study was to investigate habitat preferences and population density of Bluethroat and Lapland Longspur in the northernmost parts of Lapland, Sweden. The study was based on field survey data collected between 2021 and 2024 across six geographically distinct areas. Surveys were conducted using point and transect inventory methods, including distance data and habitat type recordings, to enable density analyses and assess habitat preferences. The results show that the Lapland Longspur generally occurred in higher numbers than the Bluethroat, particularly in open alpine tundra environments. In contrast, the Bluethroat showed weaker but positive associations with willow shrublands and mountain birch forest. Both species displayed increasing individual counts with higher altitude, although the increase was stronger for the Lapland Longspur. Detection probability for Bluethroat was higher than for Lapland Longspur, which declined more sharply with increasing distance from the transect line than for the Bluethroat. The conclusion is that habitat type and elevation have a significant impact on the occurrence of both species. More open alpine environments with the presence of shrubs and willow (Salix spp.) favor the Lapland Longspur, which also shows a stronger increase with altitude compared to the Bluethroat. The Bluethroat is positively associated with willow and mountain birch forest, although the positive effect of mountain birch forest was weaker than expected. In contrast, the impact of mountain birch forest on the Lapland Longspur was strongly negative, as anticipated, since it is a species typical of alpine heath habitats. The results provide valuable insights into the behavior and habitat selection of these species. Continued monitoring of these birds is essential in the face of a changing climate. A climate that alters vegetation, food availability, and snowmelt patterns, ultimately affecting the breeding success and distribution of both species

This study examines the level of trust that professional IT specialists have in AI-basedlanguage models and how this trust influences their acceptance of such tools in workrelated contexts. The analysis is grounded in a theoretical framework distinguishingbetween technical (safety, robustness, accuracy) and non-technical (explainability, privacy, fairness, accountability) dimensions of trust.Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with nine IT professionals inSweden. A thematic analysis was conducted to identify recurring patterns in participants'experiences and perspectives. The findings revealed that trust is a multifaceted and context-dependent process.Participants expressed a generally positive attitude toward AI but emphasized theimportance of verifiability, transparency, and control over data. Trust was found to bestrongly linked to domain knowledge and prior experience, and varied depending on taskcomplexity and the performance of the AI system. The conclusion is that trust is essential for the acceptance of AI in professional settings.Still, such trust depends not only on technical functionality but also on psychological andethical factors. Sustainable integration of AI in the workplace requires addressing bothpractical performance and user concerns.
Hälsoläranderesor – En väg till återhämtning inom mental hälsa : En teoretisk systematisk litteraturstudie
The aim: This master thesis investigates previous literature regarding the mental health outcome for adults going on health retreats. Problem formulation: There is a lack of integration between the healthcare and the retreat sector. Method: The research was explored through a theoretical systematic literature study including a total of 17 studies in various settings. The results: All the 17 studies included showed that there was an improvement in the mental health and well-being of the majority of the participants in connection to participating in a health retreat. Participating in a health retreat has a good outcome in several dimensions of health. The findings clarify six different themes that are beneficial for mental health; a positive health outcome, scheduled activities, healthy diet, social support, self-regulation and the environment. Conclusion: The results conclude that there are positive mental health outcomes in several dimensions of health by taking part in a health retreat. Participating in a health retreat serves as an effective intervention for improving health and lifestyle. More research about for example health retreats and health learning journeys might be needed together with an integration into the health care system with the aim of promoting mental health.
Sustainable Passive Heating System : A Study of Solar Orientation, Trombe Wall and Earth Sheltered Housing
This study considers sustainable passive heating options by using Trombe walls and Earth-sheltered construction techniques to mitigate the building's energy demand and carbon footprint. The position of conventional heating systems accounts for a significant percentage of carbon emissions and the costs of operation. Therefore, it makes sense to pursue alternatives that are passive as opposed to conventional. Thermal performance associated with utility-free heating is described via simulated conditions to monitor temperature distribution and conductive heat flux between connected building components. This research outlines that Trombe walls (particularly when they are paired with nano-encapsulated phase change materials) prove to be effective in absorbing and storing solar energy to maintain higher surface temperatures. Earth-sheltered houses behave in the same spirit by using soil insulation to help maintain temperature within the enclosure. Both techniques operate in conjunction to show more efficient energy consumption and a lower reliance on subsequent relationships to active systems. While thermoelectric modules were utilised, the measure of efficiency was poor, which disqualified them from contention. This research shows that advanced passive design tactics can have great application to the field of sustainable architecture, and suggests adopting or advancing additional materials and getting into the field.
