Modelling of the Military Helicopter Operation Process in Terms of Readiness

    Get PDF
The processes of exploitation of military objects are usually characterised by the specificity of the operation and the complexity of both the process itself and the object. This specificity may relate both to the type of tasks that these objects carry out and to the environment in which these processes take place. Complexity is usually reflected in the very structure of an object (for example, a ship, an aircraft or a helicopter) and, consequently, in its operation/maintenance system. The above mentioned features, as well as the limited access to data, naturally limits the set of publications available on this subject. In this article, the authors have presented a method of assessing the readiness of military helicopters operated by the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland. The readiness of technical objects used in military exploitation systems is a basic indicator of equipment preparation for executing tasks. In exploitation process research, the mathematical models are usually discrete in states and continuous in time stochastic processes, in the set of which Markov models are included. The paper presents an example of using Markov processes with discrete time and with continuous time to assess the readiness of a technical object performing tasks appearing in random moments of time. At the same time, the aim of the examined system to achieve a state of balance is presented

An Efficient Multistage Fusion Approach for Smartphone Security Analysis

    Get PDF
Android smartphone ecosystem is inundated with innumerable applications mainly developed by third party contenders leading to high vulnerability of these devices. In addition, proliferation of smartphone usage along with their potential applications in diverse field entice malware community to develop new malwares to attack these devices. In order to overcome these issues, an android malware detection framework is proposed wherein an efficient multistage fusion approach is introduced. For this, a robust unified feature vector is created by fusion of transformed feature matrices corresponding to multi-cue using non-linear graph based cross-diffusion. Unified feature is further subjected to multiple classifiers to obtain their classification scores. Classifier scores are further optimally fused employing Dezert-Smarandache Theory (DSmT). Strength of suggested model is assessed both qualitatively and quantitatively by ten-fold cross-validation on the benchmarked datasets. On an average of outcome, we achieved detection accuracy of 98.97% and F-measure of 0.9936.&nbsp

Nonlinear Extended State Observer based Active Disturbance Rejection Control of a Laser Seeker System

    Get PDF
In this paper, the laser seeker control problem is solved in the framework of active disturbance rejection control (ADRC). The considered problem, which consists of laser seeker stabilisation and target tracking, is expressed here as a regulation problem. A nonlinear extended state observer (NESO) with varying gains is used to improve the performance of linear ESO (LESO), and thus enable better control performance in both transient period and steady-state, with lower control effort. Based on a detailed analysis of system disturbances, a special ADRC tuning method is proposed. The stability of the overall control structure is analysed with a description function method. Through comparative simulations LESO-based and the introduced NESO-based ADRC for the laser seeker system, the advantages of the proposed scheme are shown

Missile Longitudinal Dynamics Control Design Using Pole Placement and LQR Methods

    Get PDF
In high-maneuvering missile systems, with severe restrictions on actuator energy requirements, it is desirable to achieve the required performance with least actuation effort. Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) has been in literature for long and has proven it’s mettle as an optimal controller in many benign aerospace applications and industrial applications where the response times of the plant, in most cases, are seen to be greater than 10 seconds. It can be observed in the literature that LQR control methodology has not been explored enough in the tactical missile applications where requirement of very fast airframe response times are desired, typically of the order of milliseconds. In the present research, the applicability of LQR method for one such agile missile control has been critically explored. In the present research work, longitudinal dynamic model of an agile missile flying at high angle of attack regime has been established and an optimal LQR control solution has been proposed to bring out the required performance demanding least control actuator energy. A novel scheme has been presented to further optimise the control effort, which is essential in this class of missile systems with space and energy constraints, by iteratively computing optimal magnitude state weighing matrix Q and control cost matrix R. Pole placement design techniques, though extensively used in aerospace industry because of ease of implementation and proven results, do not address optimality of the system performance. Hence, a comparative study has been carried out to verify the results of LQR against pole placement technique based controller. The efficacy of LQR based controller over pole placement design techniques is successfully established with minimum control energy requirement in this paper. Futuristic high maneuvering, agile missile control design with severe space and energy constraints stand to benefit incorporating the controller design scheme proposed in this paper.&nbsp

Demonstrating Antenna Miniaturisation for Radiolocation Applications using Double Elliptical Patches

    Get PDF
Double Elliptical Micro-strip Patch Antenna (DEMPA) is developed out of Double Elliptical Patch (DEP) which is a recently proposed shape of patch. The use of DEP results in higher flexibility in design of patch antenna and thus promotes antenna miniaturisation. The present work is an attempt to demonstrate the miniaturisation of radiolocation antenna through the concept of Design Flexibility (DF). In this paper, optimised neural network model for synthesis of DEMPA has been developed for radiolocation applications for which the earmarked frequency band is 8.50 GHz – 10.50 GHz. With the help of synthesis model, for an arbitrary operational frequency of 9.85 GHz, radiolocation antennas with effective patch area ranging from 142 mm2 to 66 mm2 were designed by using DEPs. In this case, the percentage reduction in effective patch area was found to be 53.52%. It shows that double elliptical patches can be employed to develop miniaturised radiolocation antennas. One prototype antenna was fabricated and tested to demonstrate the efficacy of the methodology adopted. The fabricated antenna had resonance at 10.15 GHz with a reflection coefficient of -20.73dB and bandwidth of 3.106 GHz (from 7.458 GHz to 10.564 GHz). Its Fractional Bandwidth was 34.469%. Positive and reasonably good gain was maintained over the entire working band. At resonance, the peak gain was 4.22 dB.The measured characteristics of antenna were in close agreement with the simulated results. The methodology presented in this paper can also be applied to frequency bands for other wireless applications

3 Loop Structure based Fuel Flow Controller Design for Robust Operation of Ducted Ramjet Rocket

    Get PDF
This paper is about the designing of 3-loop structure based fuel flow controller (FFC) for efficient operation of supersonic ramjet based propulsion system. The main objective of the control design is to vary appropriately the engine controllable parameters (throttle value area) such that commanded thrust is achieved by ramjet engine without endangering the engine stability and performance. Various factors such as combustion-intake interaction, atmospheric disturbance and other flight conditions have a significant impact on the air intake operation which lead to effect on engine performance. Due to above effect, intake un-start and buzzing phenomena can occur due to back pressure fluctuation and it disturb the intake pressure recovery and air mass flow rate. So, back pressure based extra loop introduce in 2-loop FFC design to have tight control on back pressure margin for smooth and efficient operation of air intake without need of extra hardware

Simulation Investigations of High Power Overmoded Relativistic Backward Wave Oscillator with Trapezoidal Resonant Reflector

    Get PDF
An S-band high power relativistic backward wave oscillator using a trapezoidal resonant reflector and overmoded slow-wave structure is demonstrated by finite difference time domain based Particle-In-Cell code. The trapezoidal resonant reflector and slow-wave structure are chosen to improve the RBWO power handing capability to gigawatt (GW). The Trapezoidal resonant reflector enhances the pre-modulation during electron beam propagation, thus increasing the generated RF signal overall efficiency and coherency. The particle-in-cell simulation generated an RF output power ~5.4 GW in TM01 mode at ~3.6 GHz in a 2.0 T magnetic field and developed a 13.5 kA current for a 1.2 MV DC cathode voltage. The power conversion efficiency is achieved as ~33 %. Further, the influence of different design parameters on frequency, RF output power, and efficiency are analysed through Particle-In-Cell simulations

Development of E Waste based Composite Microwave Absorbing Material

    Get PDF
Microwave absorbing materials (MAMs) are widely researched due to their use in many practical applications including both civil and defense sectors. Irrespective of the humongous efforts of various researchers, the development of a wide bandwidth, thin coating thickness, and low-cost microwave absorber is still a challenging task. The existing materials have not been able to meet all the specifications together at once and require a trade-off in the performance parameters. In this paper, we have empirically corroborated a cost-effective technique using E-waste material for synthesising composite MAM. It is herein shown that the addition of different wt% of copper, graphite, and titanium dioxide in the E-waste successfully resulted in enhanced absorption due to altered electrical properties of the E-waste suitable for microwave absorption. The multilayering technique with the help of a genetic algorithm has also been used to broaden the bandwidth. As a result, a three-layer MAM with the total coating thickness of 3.2 mm has been synthesised showing the wideband absorption bandwidth of 8.47 GHz in the frequency range from 6.92 to 15.39 GHz. The results suggested that microwave absorption of E-waste can be drastically improved by appropriately tailoring electrical parameters such as permittivity and permeability

Corrosion Behaviour of Multiaxial Compressed AlMgSi alloy

    Get PDF
In the present study, AlMgSi alloy was processed through multi-axial compression (MAC) to produce ultrafine-grained microstructure at room temperature. The AlMgSi alloys are widely used in automobile industries for making cylinder heads and brake disks etc. MAC was performed up to three cycles and showed improvement in mechanical properties. The impact of different strain levels upon microstructure changes is investigated using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). The average grain size reduced from an initial average grain size of ~ 124 to ~ 3 μm after completion of three cycles of MAC processing. Samples were tested for mechanical properties using uniaxial tensile test, hardness measurements, and corrosion. Tensile test results show a considerable increase in yield strength from ~90 MPa to ~249 MPa after 3 cycles of MAC. The average hardness value increased from 52 VHN to 90 VHN after 3 cycles of MAC. The corrosion resistance of MAC processed samples was found to decrease in comparison to solution-treated samples
