An Ecological Momentary Assessment Study of Momentary Emotion Intolerance: The Role of Trait Distress Intolerance, Emotional Intensity, and Arousal
Distress intolerance is a transdiagnostic risk factor featured in many psychotherapy models. Prior research has focused almost exclusively on between-person, interindividual differences in trait distress intolerance, with limited research on within-person intraindividual fluctuations in distress intolerance using ecological momentary assessment (EMA). The purpose of the current study was to test the unique contributions of, and interaction between, momentary negative emotion intensity and trait distress intolerance in predicting momentary emotion intolerance
Pragmatic effects of speaker identity on the interpretation of ambiguous messages: child vs. adult speaker (stronger manipulation)
This is a follow-up on two previous experiments (preregistered at https://osf.io/896xp and https://osf.io/smd6u), whose results suggest that people's interpretation of ambiguous messages is influenced by the perceived sophistication of the speaker's reasoning: when the speaker was believed to be an adult, participants were more likely to draw an implicature given an ambiguous message than when it was believed to be a 4-year-old child.
This study uses the same paradigm as the previous two experiments but makes the manipulation in the child condition stronger by including photos of a 4-year-old playing the communication game. This is meant to help participants take the perspective of a 4-year-old
Impostor syndrome in college students: A scoping review
Impostor Syndrome (IS), or impostor phenomenon, manifests itself through feelings of incompetence and difficulty recognizing one’s own success. Affected individuals underestimate their abilities, attributing their achievements to external factors, such as luck or chance, instead of recognizing their merit. This affects confidence and can lead to overwhelm behaviors to temporarily alleviate the feeling of falseness. Impostor syndrome is common among university students, especially in health courses, where academic stress intensifies its effects. Studies show a high prevalence of the syndrome among these students, correlated with burnout, depression and anxiety. The objective of this review is to map the impact of impostor syndrome on the academic and personal lives of undergraduate students in the health area
