A case report on a rare manifestation of hypothyroid patient; cardiac tamponade

Here presented is a patient admitted to our hospital with cardiac tamponade, a rare manifestation of hypothyroidism. Her presentation was non-specific symptoms like easy fatigability, poor appetite and left anterior chest discomfort of 01 year duration. She was evaluated in our hospital before 05 months and was started on anti-tuberculous management. But despite the anti-tuberculous treatment her condition worsened and upon her current admission she has 01 episode of syncope. She was hypotensive and depressed. Pericardial fluid analysis showed a cell count of 200 cells per microliter but mycobacterium tuberculosis was not detected on AFB stain. Cytology of the pericardial fluid revealed just reactive effusion. Tamponade results from increased intrapericardial pressure caused by the accumulation of pericardial fluid. The rapidity of fluid accumulation is a greater factor in the development of tamponade than absolute volume of the effusion. Hypothyroidism is a well-known cause of pericardial effusion. However, tamponade rarely develops owing to a slow rate of accumulation of pericardial fluid. The treatment of hypothyroidic cardiac tamponade is different from other conditions. Thyroxine supplementation is all that is necessary. Rarely, pericardiocentesis is needed in a severely symptomatic patient. Our patient improved with levothyroxine treatment

State of the art for Linear B-cell epitope in Plasmodium falciparum according to a bibliographical investigation

The goal of this investigation is to analyze the bibliographical references that are registered in the IEDB database regarding the linear B-cell epitopes responsible for Plasmodium falciparum malaria in humans during the temporal period 1984 to 2018. The geographical origin of the samples and the relevant journals were obtained for the linear B-cell epitopes in Plasmodium falciparum according to the Similarity Index. This methodology can be applied to another disease

Effectiveness of structured teaching program on diet during lactation among postnatal mothers

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually from 1 - 7th August across 120 countries. It is promoted by global health organizations like WHO and UNICEF. The goal of this week is to spread awareness about the importance of exclusive breast feeding for the first six months of an infant's life. This helps to build the baby's immune system, provides critical nutrients and promotes development. It demands an additional 500 kcal in the diet of a breastfeeding mother. Quantitative research approach was designed to find out the effectiveness of structured teaching program on diet during lactation. Pre-experimental with one group pretest-posttest design was used. The study was conducted in CSI Mission Hospital, Neyyoor. The samples consisted of 50 postnatal mothers based on the inclusion criteria. They were selected by purposive sampling technique. Demographic variables, structured knowledge questionnaire and Likert five point attitude scale were used to assess the baseline data, level of knowledge and attitude on diet during lactation among postnatal mothers. The pre-test knowledge level was 60.24+13.84 and the post-test knowledge level was 80.72+13.9. The mean difference was 20.48 and the ‘t’ value was 7.383. The pre-test attitude level was 53.04+7.9 and the post-test attitude level was 81.38+5.29. The mean difference was 28.34 and the ‘t’ value was 21.077. The obtained ‘t’ value was higher than the table value. Hence, it was highly significant at 0.05 level. The study concluded that, structured teaching program on diet during lactation was effective in terms of improving the knowledge and attitude of postnatal mothers

Antibacterial activity of Chitosan Nanoparticles against sea food pathogens

The present study was designed to investigate antibacterial activity of chitosan nanoparticles against sea food pathogens. Chitosan is an interesting polymer that has been used extensively in the medical field. It is either partially or fully deacetylated chitin. It is a good antibacterial and antifungal agent. Chitosan is synthesized by STPP method and its active range is evaluated by uv-vis spectroscopy. Then its antibacterial is tested against isolated Vibrio and also tested the antibacterial activity of chloramphenicol against the isolated species for knowing the strength of the strain. Chitosan is a good antibacterial agent that killed Vibrio around its active sites. But, chloramphenicol is a weak antibacterial agent than chitosan

An Observational Study to Determine the Abnormalities in Lipid Profiles in Newly Diagnosed Hypertensive Patients

Background: In both developed and developing nations, hypertension is a significant public health issue. Although anomalies in serum lipid and lipoprotein levels and changes in lipid metabolism are recognised to be related with hypertension, the cause and effect relationship is unknown. The study's primary objective was to determine whether primary hypertension patients visiting a tertiary care facility had aberrant lipid profiles. Methods: Diabetes and cardiology OPD of IMS & Sum Hospital, Bhubaneswar did this retrospective observational study with 400 patients whose health records were well-maintained or completely accessible at the hospital. Results: The mean average age of the study group was 48.4±6.9 years, whereas the control group's was 49.3±5.9 years. In comparison to other age groups, hypertension was more common in people aged 40 to 49. In comparison to the control group, the study groups' total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, and LDL cholesterol were all considerably increased (p 0.05). The most frequent anomaly among hypertension participants was high TC (78%), followed by elevated LDL (66%). Conclusion: Combining dyslipidemia and hypertension raises the risk of stroke, cardiovascular disease, etc. Therefore, it is important to identify dyslipidemia in hypertension patients early and treat both disorders aggressively to avoid consequences
