No full textThis article, published in The Conversation, highlights the growth and challenges of wellness tourism in Quebec, a trend that addresses the search for reconnection and meaning in a world driven by an accelerated pace of life. Drawing on Hartmut Rosa’s concept of “resonance,” the article shows how wellness tourism practices (Nordic spas, forest retreats, meditation, thermotherapy, etc.) aim to slow things down and re-center visitors on their bodies and surroundings.Quebec stands out for its vast and diverse natural environment, its climate favoring hot-cold contrasts, and its adaptation of the Scandinavian model to the local context. Beyond simple relaxation, these offerings are part of a holistic approach that involves both psychological balance and the valorization of natural resources and regional economic vitality. Despite promising growth, the sector remains loosely structured and faces challenges such as the lack of official certification, the need for well-trained professionals, and the sustainable management of fragile sites. Nevertheless, the article emphasizes that this “gentle revolution” is not merely a passing fad; it reflects a profound shift in the way people travel and perceive well-being, where slowing down and connecting with nature become essential antidotes to the over-stimulation of modern life.Il s’agit d’un article publié dans The Conversation qui met en lumière la croissance et les enjeux du tourisme de bien-être au Québec, une tendance qui répond à la quête de reconnexion et de sens dans un monde soumis à un rythme de vie accéléré. S’appuyant sur le concept de « résonance » (Hartmut Rosa), l’article montre comment les pratiques de tourisme de bien-être (spas nordiques, retraites en forêt, méditation, thermothérapie, etc.) visent à ralentir la cadence et à recentrer les visiteurs sur leur corps et leur environnement.Le Québec se démarque par sa nature vaste et diversifiée, ses conditions climatiques favorisant le contraste chaud-froid, et l’adaptation du modèle scandinave au contexte local. Co-occurrence drives horizontal gene transfer among marine prokaryotes
No full textUnderstanding the drivers of horizontal gene transfer (HGT) is a key question in microbial evolution. While co-occurring taxa have long been appreciated to undergo HGT more often, this association is confounded with other factors, most notably their phylogenetic distance.To disentangle these factors, we analyzed 15,339 isolate and metagenome-assembled marine genomes. We identified HGT events across these genomes, and identified enrichments for functions previously shown to be prone to HGT. By mapping metagenomic reads from 1,862 ocean samples to these genomes, we also identified co-occurrence patterns and environmental associations. Although we observed an expected negative association between phylogenetic distance and HGT rates, we only detected the association between cooccurrence and phylogenetic distance when restricted to closely related taxa. This observation refines the previously reported trend to closely related taxa, rather than a consistent pattern across all taxonomic levels, at least within marine environments. In addition, we identified a significant association between co-occurrence and HGT, which remains even after controlling for phylogenetic distance and measured environmental variables. Overall, our findings demonstrate the significant influence of ecological associations in shaping marine bacterial evolution through HGT.</p

Swift-BAT GUANO follow-up of gravitational-wave triggers in the third LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA observing run
No full textInternational audienceWe present results from a search for X-ray/gamma-ray counterparts of gravitational-wave (GW) candidates from the third observing run (O3) of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) network using the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (Swift-BAT). The search includes 636 GW candidates received in low latency, 86 of which have been confirmed by the offline analysis and included in the third cumulative Gravitational-Wave Transient Catalogs (GWTC-3). Targeted searches were carried out on the entire GW sample using the maximum--likelihood NITRATES pipeline on the BAT data made available via the GUANO infrastructure. We do not detect any significant electromagnetic emission that is temporally and spatially coincident with any of the GW candidates. We report flux upper limits in the 15-350 keV band as a function of sky position for all the catalog candidates. For GW candidates where the Swift-BAT false alarm rate is less than 10 Hz, we compute the GW--BAT joint false alarm rate. Finally, the derived Swift-BAT upper limits are used to infer constraints on the putative electromagnetic emission associated with binary black hole mergers
Robust Deconvolution with Parseval Filterbanks
No full textInternational audienceThis article introduces two contributions: Multiband Robust Deconvolution (Multi-RDCP), a regularization approach for deconvolution in the presence of noise; and Subband-Normalized Adaptive Kernel Evaluation (SNAKE), a first-order iterative algorithm designed to efficiently solve the resulting optimization problem. Multi-RDCP resembles Group LASSO in that it promotes sparsity across the subband spectrum of the solution. We prove that SNAKE enjoys fast convergence rates and numerical simulations illustrate the efficiency of SNAKE for deconvolving noisy oscillatory signals

La Foire Saint-Germain de Regnard et Dufresny
No full textInternational audienceThe fame of the Foire Saint-Germain in Paris at the end of the 17th century was such that some authors found it a source of inspiration. On 26 December 1695, Dufresny and Regnard staged a comedy in three acts entitled ‘La Foire Saint-Germain’ at the Comédie-Italienne, which was a huge success. The history of the editions of this comedy (restored in our edition) reveals the complex process of evolution of a play ‘which is one of the best to have been performed on the theatre of the Hôtel de Bourgogne’, according to Gherardi's Avertissement, inserted at the head of the separate edition published by the widow Denain (1698). A place of mobility and chance, the Foire Saint-Germain here becomes a social playground, conducive to individual adventures: it is the world of intrigue dear to Italian comedy that is thus extolled, according to a deliberately dubious moral. Regnard and Dufresny's comedy par excellence symbolises the conjunction of an urban memory (with a certain number of realia, particularly in the scene of the merchants at the Foire that opens the play in the 1700 edition) and a theatrical transfiguration of Parisian reality. It also offers the spectator comic side-steps (assumed as such), and imaginary escapes, sometimes unbridled.La notoriété de la Foire Saint-Germain, dans le Paris de la fin du XVIIe siècle, est telle que certains auteurs y ont trouvé un sujet d’inspiration. Dufresny et Regnard font jouer à la Comédie-Italienne le 26 décembre 1695 une comédie en trois actes précisément intitulée "La Foire Saint-Germain", qui rencontre un immense succès. L’histoire des éditions de cette comédie (restituée dans notre édition) révèle le processus complexe d’évolution d’une pièce « qui est une des meilleures qui aient été représentées sur le théâtre de l’Hôtel de Bourgogne », selon l’Avertissement de Gherardi, inséré en tête de l’édition séparée chez la veuve Denain (1698). Espace de la mobilité et du hasard, la Foire Saint-Germain devient ici un terrain de jeu social, propice aux aventures individuelles : c’est le monde de l’intrigue chère à la comédie italienne qui se trouve ainsi vanté, selon une morale volontairement douteuse. La comédie de Regnard et Dufresny symbolise par excellence la conjonction d’une mémoire urbaine (avec un certain nombre de realia, en particulier dans la scène des marchands de la Foire qui ouvre la pièce dans l'édition de 1700) et d’une transfiguration théâtrale de la réalité parisienne. Elle offre aussi au spectateur des pas de côté comiques (assumés comme tels), et des échappées imaginaires, parfois débridées
