    High-Fidelity Raman Spectra Simulations Across Solids: Insights from GaS and GaSe, from Bulk to layers

    International audienceGallium-based chalcogenides such as GaS and GaSe have garnered significant attention due to their unique properties and potential in optoelectronics and thin-film technologies. This study presents a detailed simulation of their Raman spectra, focusing on both bulk materials and thin layers. Using the CRYSTAL software built upon localized orbitals, we benchmark various functionals, including GGA, Meta-GGA, and hybrid ones, against experimental data. We also evaluate the performance of two distinct basis sets (TZVP and DZVP), highlighting their advantages in terms of accuracy and computational efficiency. Our work offers the first comprehensive Raman simulations for these materials, providing valuable insights for future research and a direct vis-à-vis with experiment

    Semaglutide 2.4 mg in French people living with Class 3 obesity and comorbidities: Baseline characteristics and real-world safety data

    International audienceAim:- To describe baseline characteristics and safety data of real-world use of semaglutide 2.4 mg. Methods:- Patients with a body mass index (BMI) >= 40 kg/m2 and at least one of the following treated weight- related comorbidities (WRC: hypertension, dyslipidemia, obstructive sleep apnea, cardiovascular disease) were eligible to receive treatment through Temporary Utilization Authorization (TUA: March to June 2022) or Early Access Program (EAP: July 2022 to October 2023). Data were collected according to Health Authorities' requirements. Only descriptive statistics were used. Results:- Overall, 5,797 (62.8%) treatment requests were sent by sites specialized in obesity management. In total, 478 and 8,568 patients were treated within TUA and EAP cohorts respectively, with mean follow-up durations of 1.2 and 4.5 months, respectively. Mean (SD) BMI was 48.9 (9.7) and 47.0 (7.4) kg/m2, respectively. Age ranged from 18 to 81 years. In the EAP, 57.4%, 26.5%, 12.3% and 3.7% of patients had 1, 2, 3 and 4 WRC. In addition, 15.5% had type 2 diabetes, 18.1% reported depression and 15.4% had osteoarthritis. In the EAP, 247 (2.9%) patients discontinued treatment after a median time of 2.8 months (IQR: 1.2-5.1), mainly due to adverse events (AEs) (47.0%). During TUA, 3 patients discontinued due to AEs. Pancreatitis was reported in 7 cases overall. Conclusion:- The high number of treatment prescriptions in a short period highlights the high unmet medical need. No new safety concerns were identified in this population with severe obesity treated in a real-world setting

    Landscape anthropization drives composition and diversity of butterfly communities at a regional scale

    Aim While landscape anthropization is a key driver of biodiversity change, its effects on communities are underexplored, especially at regional scales. In the Anthropocene, climate and habitat diversity alone are insufficient to explain community structure. However, until recently, ecologists lacked accessible, synthesized data describing anthropization gradients, which limited studies to macro-ecological scales. Yet, a deeper understanding of how anthropization shapes species pool and local communities is crucial for biodiversity conservation, especially in historically anthropized areas. Location France Time period 2010-2020 Major taxa studied Butterfly Methods Using a high-resolution (20 m) anthropization map describing anthropization on a continuous gradient across France, we examined the influence of landscape anthropization on taxonomic, functional, and phylogenetic diversities and composition of butterfly communities in Brittany (France). This taxon is known to be widely impacted by landscape changes and is an indicator of ecosystem health. We compiled 175,000 butterfly occurrences recorded from 2010 to 2020, spanning 2,447 communities across the anthropization gradient with multi-facet biodiversity indices. Results We showed that anthropization significantly shapes community structure, sometimes even exerting a stronger influence than habitat diversity or landscape heterogeneity. Relationships between anthropization and community diversity within the same biogeographical region were often linear rather than Gaussian, with diversity decreasing as anthropization increased. Highly anthropized sites hosted communities with lower habitat and dispersal specialization and lower species richness. Main conclusions These results highlight the importance of landscape matrix and typical habitats, rather than habitat quantity, in shaping biodiversity. Integrating local scale anthropization in public policies and conservation strategies is essential for effective ecological conservation and restoration

Although efforts to identify the effectors of its unique pathogenic behavior have been insightful, the role of the high-osmolarity glycerol (HOG) pathway in this context remains unexplored.     Guidelines for non-LTE modelling of cyanopolyynes

    International audienceCyanopolyynes are abundant and widespread in cold molecular clouds. Their abundances are typically determined under the assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) or through non-LTE analysis based on approximate collisional rate coefficients. Here, we present the first quantum mechanical scattering data for HC5 N and HC7N in collisions with helium. We used both close-coupling (CC) and coupled-states (CS) methods to compute excitation cross-sections. We then derived rate coefficients for the first energy levels of HC5N and HC7N. A comparative analysis between the CC and CS results reveals an agreement better than a factor of two for high-magnitude rate coefficients. However, we found that the derivation of approximate HC5N and HC7N rate coefficients from those of HCN and HC3N using a size proportionality relationship, as has been previously done in the literature, leads to an overestimation of the collisional data by up to two orders of magnitude. To assess the sensitivity of cyanopolyyne line intensities to collisional rate coefficients, we compared LTE predictions with various non-LTE models using different rate coefficients. Under the typical physical conditions of cold molecular clouds, the LTE assumption and radiative transfer calculations based on approximate collisional rate coefficients strongly overestimate high-frequency line intensities, while the non-LTE models based on the HC3N collisional rate coefficients as a proxy for HC5N and HC7N remain accurate within 10%. We therefore recommend revisiting the abundance estimates for HC5N and HC7N using the new rate coefficients. For HC9N and HC11N, adopting HC7N collisional data in line modelling is expected to be highly accurate
