Historical Alabamiana 2: Finding Aid
This collection is comprised of items related to the State of Alabama. The items are in a variety of formats, including newsletters, magazines, pamphlets, brochures, news releases, clippings, correspondence, and more. These items run the gamut as far as their content and have been organized roughly by category. Many of the JSU subject materials also located with these Alabama materials were departmental publications which were placed into their own collections and cataloged separately. The bulk of the materials in the Alabama Gallery vertical file begin in the early-to-mid-1970s, though there are items in the collection which date from the 1930s onward; it appears items were added to the Alabama-related portion of the Alabama Gallery vertical file up until circa the early 2000s

Gender Dynamics in “Woman Hollering Creek”: The Influence of Culture and Religion
Sandra Cisneros’ “Woman Hollering Creek” examines the conflicting gender dynamics rooted in the combination of Mexican culture and Roman Catholic doctrines. Set in Seguin, Texas, the narrative portrays Cleófilas, a woman struggling in her marriage, as she navigates the pressures of motherhood and gender roles enforced by her community\u27s values. Through Cleófilas’ experiences, the story details the influence of Catholic traditions on perceptions of femininity, marriage, and motherhood. Cultural references, such as the folklore of La Llorona, further illuminate the traditional constraints Cleófilas must resist to protect her children and redefine her purpose. Ultimately, Cisneros highlights the broader issue of women confronting societal norms and offers a narrative of resilience and self-determination, demonstrating a solution that prioritizes personal values and duties over cultural impositions.https://digitalcommons.jsu.edu/ce_jsustudentsymp_2025/1054/thumbnail.jp
