Enhancing reproducibility in single cell research with biocytometry: An inter-laboratory study
Biomedicine today is experiencing a shift towards decentralized data collection, which promises enhanced reproducibility and collaboration across diverse laboratory environments. This inter-laboratory study evaluates the performance of biocytometry, a method utilizing engineered bioparticles for enumerating cells based on their surface antigen patterns. In centralized and aggregated inter-lab studies, biocytometry demonstrated significant statistical power in discriminating numbers of target cells at varying concentrations as low as 1 cell per 100,000 background cells. User skill levels varied from expert to beginner capturing a range of proficiencies. Measurement was performed in a decentralized environment without any instrument cross-calibration or advanced user training outside of a basic instruction manual. The results affirm biocytometry to be a viable solution for immunophenotyping applications demanding sensitivity as well as scalability and reproducibility and paves the way for decentralized analysis of rare cells in heterogeneous samples

Podcasts Reclaim Literature by Women: A Comparative Study
This presentation samples some prominent podcasts which highlight my longtime academic specialty, literature by women. At least three podcasts on Individual writers, Emily Dickinson, Zelda Fitzgerald, and Elizabeth Robins receive attention. At least two podcast series that examine collections of women writers deserve acknowledgment. These are: Lost Ladies of Lit hosted by Amy Helmes and Kim Askew in Los Angeles and one sponsored by Women\u27s Fiction Writers Association, the Debut Author Podcast hosted by novelist Maggie Smith, Hear Us Roar. I am interested in not only the content and how it is presented, but the ease of use and reach of this recent medium
Elucidation of Potential Antimicrobial Properties of Chalcones
The rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria is a growing concern for the medical and biological community. Increased use of antibiotics has led to increased development of bacterial tolerances. This phenomenon, driven by the principles of evolution, has been exacerbated by the improper antibiotic use of these antibiotics. Often, individuals stop taking antibiotics once symptoms subside, mistakenly believing the infection is cured. This practice allows bacteria or fungi to develop resistance.
These antibiotics have been developed from secondary metabolites. While we have many effective antibiotics we are facing new threats. Chalcones are being looked at for their potential in addressing this issue. Chalcones have not only shown promise in antibiotic use but have various other medical applications, including antifungal, anticancer, antioxidant, antilarval, and antimalarial uses.
This study aims to assess the antimicrobial properties of novel chalcones while contributing to the growing body of evidence supporting this potential. To do so we exposed various bacteria to different concentrations of chalcones to quantitatively measure their effects. Additionally, we will investigate the synergistic potential of chalcones when combined with other known antimicrobial treatments
A Review of Freshwater Quantity and Quality Challenges and Effects on the Conservation and Regulatory Needs in Small Island Developing States (SIDS)
The common characteristic of small island developing nations (SIDS) is their socioeconomic and environmental susceptibility to natural catastrophes and climate change. They frequently lack the resources necessary to provide freshwater supply services. As industry, agriculture, and population expansion continue to raise their needs, the present estimate of available water per head of population will gradually decline. Several studies have been conducted, however as of right now, this issue has no known answer. Many islands have no surface water resources and rely on limited groundwater resources in the form of thin freshwater lenses. The purpose of this research is to provide light on this diminishing resource, examine the numerous variables that contribute to its depletion, and determine what must be done to assure a sustainable supply of water.https://digitalcommons.jsu.edu/ce_jsustudentsymp_2024/1061/thumbnail.jp
