Ashwagandha in Sports: Investigating Its Impact on Physical Performance and Athletic Enhancement
The herb Ashwagandha, recognized for its adaptogenic properties and stress-mitigating capabilities, has garnered scientific interest for its prospective role in augmenting physical performance in healthy cohorts. This study presents a comprehensive meta-analysis of extant clinical trials to elucidate the potential ergogenic effects of Ashwagandha supplementation. A rigorous selection process yielded 13 studies that met predefined criteria, each examining the impact of Ashwagandha on various performance indices. Although one study was excluded from the quantitative synthesis, the combined analysis of the residual data demonstrated promising outcomes.
The integrity of the research was underscored by an overall low-to-moderate risk of bias across the included studies, lending credence to the findings. Employing advanced statistical techniques, the analysis scrutinized the efficacy of Ashwagandha in enhancing multiple dimensions of physical performance, including muscular strength, power output, cardiorespiratory endurance (VO2max), and fatigue recovery intervals. The comparative assessment against placebo groups indicated statistically significant improvements in these key performance parameters attributable to Ashwagandha supplementation.
In a novel approach to data stratification, participant cohorts were bifurcated based on gender and prior training experience, revealing that the benefits of Ashwagandha supplementation transcended these demographic and experiential divides, manifesting in both genders and across varying levels of athletic training.
Acknowledging the constraints inherent in empirical research, this study underscores the necessity for future investigative efforts. Subsequent research, particularly those integrating structured training programs and focusing on athletic populations, is imperative to corroborate the preliminary findings and refine the understanding of Ashwagandha\u27s ergogenic potential.
While preliminary, the current findings are promising and suggest that Ashwagandha, in conjunction with a balanced lifestyle and tailored training regimen, could offer a natural adjunct in the quest for enhanced physical performance. This research represents the inception of a more detailed inquiry into the mechanistic underpinnings of Ashwagandha\u27s influence, the optimization of dosage and regimen for maximal benefit, and the delineation of any attendant side effects.

Nurture vs. Nature Quilted Posters
Is it Nurture or Nature that determines one\u27s identity, influence, and inspiration? The concept for this poster series revolves around the thought that both nurture and nature are woven and stitched together to form one’s identity, influence, and inspiration. For this piece, I used botanical specimens to create monoprints which I then cut down and sewed together with maps to create the finished posters. The botanical specimens overlap in such a way to show the layering influence of nature. There are some qualities that individuals have simply because of the fact that they are born with such qualities. Other qualities are formed by the environment in which the individual is raised, represented by the maps in the posters. One’s identity, influence, and inspiration can all be guided by both nurture and nature. This artwork explores the idea that these characteristics stem from both the way that one is born and the environment surrounding the individual. Ginseng in Sports Nutrition: Mitigating Muscle Damage and Enhancing Athletic Performance
Despite exercise being an activity that is required for all humans to participate in to promote strength and wellness, it can lead to muscular degeneration, fatigue, and stress. In the article “Effect of Ginseng Intake on Muscle Damage Induced by Exercise in Healthy Adults” by Borja Muñoz-Castellanos, Patricia Martínez-López, Rafael Bailón-Moreno, and Laura Esquius, the authors analytically review the findings from various studies in which ginseng’s potential to alleviate exercise-induced muscle damage is determined. Ginseng is an herbal supplement that is composed of active compounds called ginsenosides which contain anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Studies have found that these properties may have an effect on the neuromuscular system, specifically, reduced biomarkers of muscle damage like creatine kinase and interleukin-6. In turn, this would result in a promotion of muscle repair and recovery by minimizing the inflammation response triggered by exercise.
For muscle damage, ginseng’s ability to reduce biomarkers of creatine kinase is observed. High levels of creatine kinase can result in severe muscle damage and can cause a myriad of other issues including renal failure. The ingestion of ginseng correlates to safer practices of physical activity by reducing chances of injury. For muscle fatigue and soreness, it has also been observed that ginseng has an impact on blood lactate levels. Increased levels of lactate present in the blood is associated with muscle soreness and muscle fatigue. With the levels of blood lactate lowered, rating of perceived exertion (RPE) is also reduced, which is associated with the possibility of enhanced performance.
Despite the plethora of data providing promising results, there is still many questions left unsolved. Due to lack of cohesivity amongst the studies analyzed, dosage size, consumption timing, consumption frequency, and type of ginseng has yet to be determined. For future studies into the topic, to yield more insightful results, certain strains of ginseng, expanding study populations, including athletes, and determining dosage size should be focused upon. Implementing this plan of study would help solidify and substantiate ginseng’s position in sport related nutrition.
Overall, the data that has been collected on the topic of ginseng and its effect on the musculoskeletal system after strenuous exercise has be quite insightful. The promise of ginseng’s ability to reduce exercise-induced muscle degradation, reduce muscle pain, and enhance athletic performance is most desirable in regards to the future of supplementation. Contextualizing of an Elegy Misinterpreted: A New Historicist Take on The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky
Literary critics, in analyzing works of literature, can make judgements on texts’ meanings that greatly influence readers’ perceptions. Stephen Crane’s “The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky,” (1898), originally published in McClure’s Magazine, is a well-known American short story, yet it is often misinterpreted by such critics. Failing to analyze the text through a New Historicist lens – involving examining the historical period a piece was written in and even the life of the author of a work – many critics have found Crane’s piece to merely be a humorous evaluation of American western life. However, through examining external factors outside of the narrative itself, the piece reveals itself as one that asks readers to mourn the passing of the Old West.
A New Historicist analysis providing often overlooked insight, my presentation, “An Elegy Misinterpreted” reveals how Crane’s work portrays its Western characters as unable to stand in the way of industrial and entrepreneurial change and reflects the historical shift that occurred in the American West. Examining primary and secondary sources regarding the disappearance of the frontier line and growing entrepreneurship in Texas during the late nineteenth-century, my presentation evaluates how such changes effected perceptions of the West and resulted in the creation of a countermyth. Just as vital, I explore how Stephen Crane’s real-life trip westward shaped his ideology and future writings. Videntis.org is a resource for educators that is accessed digitally. Since education is transitioning into a digital age, creating an interface for the faculty was the best solution to offer quick help to educators who need more information. Use of Force in Policing: Do Female Police Officers Use Unjustifiable Force as Often as Male Officers?
Use of force (UOF) is a common practice in policing. My study focuses on the disposition of the use of unjustifiable force in policing. Utilization of pre-existing data with 5,771 use of force incidents from the New Orleans, Louisiana police department in the years of 2016-2021 produces an answer to the research question: Do female police officers use unjustifiable force as often as male officers? The chi-square test of independence results in my study indicates that there is no statistical difference between males and females
