    Synthesis and characterization of a novel 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole lead(II) coordination polymer

    A novel [Pb-2(mu-atrz)(2)(mu-CH3COO)(CH3COO)](n) (atrz = 3 amino-1,2,4-triazole) complex was synthesized and characterized by IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The molecular structure shows that the complex is a coordination polymer in which there are 2 different lead(II) ions with coordination number of 5, Pb(2), and, with a coordination number of 4, Pb(1). Each atrz acts as a bridging ligand between 2 Pb(II) ions through the 2 adjacent nitrogen atoms of the triazole ring. The acetate anions show different types of coordination mode: one acts as a bridge by coordination of the same oxygen atom with Pb(II) ions and the other as a monodentate coordination by one of the oxygen atoms with Pb(2)

    Bright white light emission from blue emitting carbon dot-coated Dy3+- doped luminescent glasses

    Dy3+-doped luminescent glasses have received great attention due to their ability to emit white light at a suitable yellow-to-blue intensity ratio. However, achieving bright white light using single Dy3+-doped glasses remains a challenge due to the hypersensitivity of the emission band at 575 nm - usually resulting in intense yellow emission. In this work, we present a novel approach for compensating for the blue emission deficiency of Dy3+ to produce resin-free white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) by synthesizing two series of Dy3+-doped glasses from tellurite and silicate systems on which blue-emitting carbon dots (BCDs) are spin-coated. The structural, chemical, optical, and luminescence properties of tellurite and silicate glasses are compared and discussed in detail. White light emissions are obtained upon 365-nm excitation for BCD-coated Dy3+-doped tellurite and silicate glasses with color coordinates of (x = 0.31, y = 0.33) and (x = 0.31, y = 0.34) and correlated color temperatures (CCT) of 5518 K and 5316 K, respectively. BCDs coating increases photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) values from 3.10 % to 5.62 % and from 20.81 % to 31.49 % for tellurite and silicate glasses, respectively. Ultimately, the findings in this work show the potential of BCD-coated luminescent glasses with excellent luminescent properties to be considered in solid-state lighting applications.     Multidimensional assessment of voice and speech after supracricoid laryngectomy with cricohyoidopexy

    This study was designed: to evaluate the vocal function in the patients with supracricoid laryngectomy (SCL) compared with normal subjects; to determine the factors affecting voice (such as number of arytenoid(s) preserved and movement of larynx and tongue base); and to determine the correlations between videolaryngostroboscopy, acoustic and perceptual parameters. Ten patients who underwent SCL with cricohyoidopexy for primary laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma were included into the study. Vocal function was investigated by means or videolaryngostroboscopy. Voice quality was assessed by means of objective acoustic analysis and subjective perceptual ratings by trained raters. Aberrant, incompetent, and rough mucosal wave was observed in the anterior and superior surfaces of arytenoids(s), the inferior part of tongue base and the lateral walls of the hypopharynx. The acoustic parameters were found to be significantly different from those of normal subjects. The values of perceptual scores were approximately within 50 per cent of normal range. The number of arytenoids spared did not affect acoustic or perceptual measurements. A rough, breathy, unpleasant but intelligible and acceptable voice could be obtained after SCL with cricohyoidopexy

    Production and Characterization of Composite Filaments for 3D Printing

    In this study, various nano and micro particles with different properties, including density, surface area, purity and particle morphology were used as reinforcement particles for the production of polymer composite filaments to be used for 3D printing. Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) was matrix material and Multi wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), SiO2, ZrB2, and, Al particles were reinforcements. Production of the composite filaments was carried out by using a twin screw extruder. Produced composite filaments were characterized via Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), tensile test and surface roughness tests. Results showed that addition of micro/nano particles into ABS matrix improved the Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) of the composites by around 16% compared to non-reinforced one. As a result of reinforcing with micro particles, ZrB2 and Al, the tensile strain of neat-ABS filament increased by 17.8% and 40%, respectivel

    Sirolimus is effective and safe in childhood relapsed-refractory autoimmune cytopenias: A multicentre study

    Autoimmune cytopenias are a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by immune-mediated destruction of haematopoietic cell lines. Effective and well-tolerated treatment options for relapsed-refractory immune cytopenias are limited. In this study, the aim was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of sirolimus in this disease group within the paediatric age group. The study enrolled patients in the paediatric age group who used sirolimus with a diagnosis of immune cytopenia between December 2010 and December 2020, followed at six centres in Turkey. Of the 17 patients, five (29.4%) were treated for autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA), six (35.2%) for immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) and six (35.2%) for Evans syndrome (ES). The mean response time was 2.7 months (range, 0-9 months). Complete response (CR) and partial response (PR) were obtained in 13 of 17 patients (76.4%) and nonresponse (NR) in four patients (23.5%). Among the 13 patients who achieved CR, three of them were NR in the follow-up and two of them had remission with low-dose steroid and sirolimus. Thus, overall response rate (ORR) was achieved in 12 of 17 patients (70.5%). In conclusion, sirolimus may be an effective and safe option in paediatric patients with relapsed-refractory immune cytopenia. In a retrospective multicentre study of 17 cases (11 boys and 6 girls) who were receiving sirolimus for immune cytopenia were analysed. We found that complete response (CR) and partial response (PR) were obtained in 13 of 17 patients (76.4%) and nonresponse (NR) in 4 patients (23.5%).     Economic Freedom and Growth: A Panel Cointegration Approach

    This study uses three-country group panel data from 1993 to 2011 in examining the long-run effect of tax burdens (fiscal freedom index) and government regulations of business (business freedom index) on economic growth. The outcome of the panel cointegration approach suggests that the variables have a long-run relationship with economic growth. The study finds all the signs of the variables used to be consistent with theoretical expectations. Regarding the variables of interest, it is also found that the fiscal freedom has a positive and significant effect on economic growth for all three-country groups. In addition, the business freedom has a positive and significant effect for only two-country groups. The study finds that tax burdens and government regulations play an important role on economic growth for most countries in the sample. To harness economic growth prospects, the study offers recommendations for policy makers to consider

    Cholesterol content and fatty acid profile of chocolates that are consumed in Turkey were determined by capillary gas chromatography. Chocolate samples from 20 trade marks were purchased from markets in Izmir, Turkey. As results of the analyses, average cholesterol content of the samples was 1.14 +/- 0.14 mg/kg ranging between 0.963 and 1.535mg/kg. Twenty-three types of fatty acids were determined in oil extracted from chocolates. Main fatty acids found in chocolate samples were stearic acid (39.33 +/- 5.25%), oleic acid (25.99 +/- 6.89%), and palmitic acid (25.56 +/- 2.06%). Total saturated and total unsaturated fatty acid contents of chocolate samples were found as 69.90% and 30.05%, respectively. The fat content of the samples were in the range 31.5-67%
