    Relation of the Nine Types of Temperament Model with Personality Disorders

    Objective: Aim of this study is to determine the correspondence between personality categories and the types making up the Nine Types of Temperament Model (NTTM) - a new temperament model which evaluates personality disorders within the context of temperament traits and maladaptive personality features-and conceptualization of NTTM types. Method: The sample group is composed of 117 participants with a personality disorder. SCID II and Nine Types of Temperament Scale (NTTS) were applied to the participants. Results: According to the findings, all NTTM types have shown significant correlation with at least one personality disorder. According to the regression analysis results, it was determined that the NTTM types were explained by personality disorders at a rate of 19-41%. Conclusions: In this study, it is found that knowing the temperament features that form the basis of an individual's personality structure is helpful to diagnose and to determine the tendency to develop personality disorders that are pathological responses to personality characteristics. In addition, this study brings up questions such as whether the individual differences between patients with the same personality disorders can be evaluated on the basis of temperament and whether it is possible to determine therapy and treatment approaches according to an individual's temperament type

    Efficacy of azithromycin in a murine toxoplasmosis model, employing a Toxoplasma gondii strain from Turkey

    A murine toxoplasmosis model with Balb/C mice was used to investigate the therapeutic and prophylactic efficacy of azithromycin in a native strain of Toxoplasma gondii. Initially, seven groups-four studies and three controls-were established and 10(3) tachyzoites of this native strain of T. gondii were injected intraperitoneally to the mice in groups 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7. Azithromycin was given to groups 1-4 at different times of infection orally between 100 and 300 mg/kg/day for 10 days. Azithromycin was found to be effective at 200 mg/kg/day and above in the prophylaxis, at 250 mg/kg/day and above in the treatment of toxoplasmosis. These results suggest that azithromycin is effective in the prophylaxis and early infection of a highly virulent strain of T. gondii, and it doubled the survival time in the late infection. Azithromycin could be an alternative treatment regimen for human toxoplasmosis, if supported by further clinical investigations. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

    Magnetohydrodynamics Mixed Convection in a Lid-Driven Cavity Having a Corrugated Bottom Wall and Filled With a Non-Newtonian Power-Law Fluid Under the Influence of an Inclined Magnetic Field

    In this study, the problem of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) mixed convection of lid-driven cavity with a triangular-wave shaped corrugated bottom wall filled with a non-Newtonian power-law fluid is numerically studied. The bottom corrugated wall of the cavity is heated and the top moving wall is kept at a constant lower temperature while the vertical walls of the enclosure are considered to be adiabatic. The governing equations are solved by the Galerkin weighted residual finite element formulation. The influence of the Richardson number (between 0.01 and 100), Hartmann number (between 0 and 50), inclination angle of the magnetic field (between 0 deg and 90 deg), and the power-law index (between 0.6 and 1.4) on the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics are numerically investigated. It is observed that the effects of free convection are more pronounced for a shear-thinning fluid and the buoyancy force is weaker for the dilatant fluid flow compared to that of the Newtonian fluid. The averaged heat transfer decreases with increasing values of the Richardson number and enhancement is more effective for a shear-thickening fluid. At the highest value of the Hartmann number, the averaged heat transfer is the lowest for a pseudoplastic fluid. As the inclination angle of the magnetic field increases, the averaged Nusselt number generally enhances

    Investigation of Retired Elite Athletes' Food Addiction

    The aim of this study is to examine the food addiction levels of retired elite athletes in terms of various variables. The research is a descriptive cross-sectional study. The sample group of the study, fencing, football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, handball, tae-kwon-do, badminton and tennis, who ended their sports career at least 3 years ago, 51 men (53.1%) and 45 women (46.9%) average age 33.75 +/- 5.88 total 96 constitute the national athlete. In the study, Yale Food Addiction Scale consisting of 27 questions developed by Gearhardt et al. in 2009 and adapted to Turkish by Bayraktar et al. In 2012 was applied to the participants in the study. Food addiction was detected in 39 of 96 participants participating in the study. When the data obtained in the study were examined, it was determined that the athletes who retired after exercising at the elite level experienced higher levels of problems with food addiction compared to other members of the society

    Quality of life in patients with ankylosing spondylitis

    The aims of this study were to evaluate quality of life (QOL) in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and to determine the relationship between QOL and clinical condition/functional status. Forty-six AS patients (37 males) were included in the study. The demographic data of the patients were recorded. Disease activity Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), enthesitis involvement Mander Ehthesis Index (MEI), functional evaluation Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI), and quality of life Short-Form 36 (SF-36) were assessed. The mean age of the patients was 39.2 (SD: 11. 46) years. Most MEI was found related to physical function (P = 0.014), physical role (P = 0. 01), pain (P = 0.002) and vitality (P = 0.004) in SF-36 subgroups. Among the subgroups, the best correlations with the general health was found in BASDAI (P = 0.014) and secondly in MEI (P = 0.038). None of the mental health and social function subgroups had any significant correlation with any of the parameters (P > 0.05). A significant relationship was found between the emotional role and BASFI, and chest expansion (P = 0.004). Clinical and functional state were affecting QOL of patients with AS. It has been found out that in patients with AS, the QOL subgroups are mostly related with enthesis involvement

    Mixed convection in a two-sided elastic walled and SiO2 nanofluid filled cavity with internal heat generation: Effects of inner rotating cylinder and nanoparticle's shape

    In this study, mixed convection in a cavity with volumetric heat generation and filled with nanofluid having an inner rotating cylinder and two flexible side walls is numerically investigated. The top wall of the cavity is at constant cold temperature while the bottom wall is kept at hot temperature. Two flexible side walls and the surface of the inner rotating cylinder are accepted as adiabatic. The finite element formulation is used to solve the governing equations. The Arbitrary-Lagrangian-Eulerian method is used to describe the fluid motion with the flexible side walls of the cavity in the fluid-structure interaction model. The influence of external Rayleigh number, elastic modulus pair of the flexible side walls, angular rotational speed of the cylinder, internal Rayleigh number and nanopartide volume fraction on the fluid flow and heat transfer are numerically simulated by using different solid nanoparticle shapes (spherical, cylindrical, brick and blade type). It is observed that the local and averaged heat transfer enhances as the external Rayleigh number, nanoparticle volume fraction and absolute value of the angular rotational velocity of the cylinder increase and as the internal Rayleigh number decreases. The elastic modulus of the side walls can be used to control the fluid flow and heat transfer inside the cavity. Utilizing cylindrical nanopartides gives the best performance in terms of heat transfer enhancement. (c) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

    The effects of acetylcholine and propolis extract on corneal epithelial wound healing in rats

    Purpose. To investigate the effects of topical acetylcholine and topical administration of propolis, a natural beehive product, on corneal epithelial wound healing. Methods. The whole corneal epithelium was debrided in 42 eyes of 21 rats by mechanical scraping with a dulled scalpel blade. Animals were divided into three groups. Group 1 received topical 1% water extract of propolis (WEP), group 2 received topical acetylcholine (ACh), and group 3 (control group) received topical phosphate-buffered saline, 6 times a day for 3 days, starting immediately after debridemenl. The area of the corneal epithelial defect was stained with fluorescein, photographed, and then measured every 12 h. The mean epithelial defect area and the mean percentage of epithelial defect remaining at each follow-up were compared between the groups. Results. The mean epithelial defect area and the mean percentage of epithelial defect remaining at each time were significantly smaller (p 0.05), At 72 h, the mean percentage of defect remaining was 2.58%, in the ACh group, 1.3% in the propolis-treated group, and 8.68% in the control group. Conclusions. This study demonstrated that ACh and propolis facilitated corneal epithelial wound healing of rats. Although the mechanisms of the effect of propolis on wound healing and its clinical use still remain to be determined, ACh may have a place in the treatment of corneal epithelial injuries

    Synthesis and characterizations of sol-gel derived LaFeO3 perovskite powders

    In this study, LaFeO3 perovskite powders were prepared via the sol-gel method in two different annealing temperatures (500 and 850 degrees C-according to DTA/TG results) for use in dye-sensitized solar cell applications. The thermal, structural, microstructural, particle size, optical and magnetic properties of the samples were characterized by differential thermal analysis (DTA)/thermogravimetric analysis (TG), Fourier transforms infrared spectrometer (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), particle size analysis (PSA), UV-Vis spectrometer and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Our XRD findings show that the as-synthesized powders have an excellent crystallinity, and Scherrer's Equation is used for the estimation of crystallite sizes (within 26-29 nm). Samples were analyzed to reveal the valence states of elements through XPS. Survey scan XPS spectra and high-resolution XPS spectra of La-3d5 and Fe-2p for LaFeO3 samples are given. SEMs employed to observe surface morphologies of all xerogel and ceramic perovskite powder materials and SEM images were verified with PSA results. UV-Vis spectrometer analysis results show that the optical bandgap values (E-g) as measured on both particles were found 2.42 eV. In addition to all analyses, the powders show ferromagnetic behavior, and VSM analyses are used to determine ferromagnetic properties. These results, especially low bandgap, make LaFeO3 powders possible to further increase the performance and efficiency of perovskite-based cells
