Investigation of the Influence of the Pre-Aging Process on the Hardness of 6082 and 7075 Aluminum Alloys
In this study, the effect of pre-aging time and temperature on mechanical properties of aluminium alloys 6082 and 7075 has been investigated. Pre-aging has been applied at 50, 60, 70 and 80 degrees C for 24, 72, 144 hours after solution treatment process at 560 degrees C for 1 hour. Then these samples have been subjected to an aging process at 180 degrees C and 125 degrees C. The hardness of samples has been measured during aging process regularly. Eventually, it was determined that if pre-aging process is performed at low temperature, an increase of hardness occurs and hardness decreases with increasing temperature during aging
Effect of recombinant human activated protein C on apoptosis-related proteins
The recombinant human activated protein C (rhAPC) has been reported to reduce mortality in patients with severe sepsis. An anti-apoptotic effect of rhAPC in sepsis is known, but the mechanism through which it acts on the apoptotic pathway is still unclear. Therefore, immunopositivity of the apoptosis-related proteins Bcl-2, an anti-apoptotic protein, c-myc, a proliferative protein, p-21 and p-53, two apoptotic proteins, was determined after rhAPC treatment in a mouse sepsis model. Sepsis was induced by Escherichia coli endotoxin injection. Increased neutrophil infiltration and immunoreactivity to p53 and p2l were observed in the group with sepsis and these immunoreactivities were decreased by rhAPC treatment. In the sepstic group; immunopositivity of Bcl-2 and c-myc was mild and moderate, respectively. In conclusion; p21- and p53-mediated apoptosis was increased in the sepsis model, and for the first time it has been shown that rhAPC decreases sepsis-induced apoptosis resulting from increased p2l and p53 proteins
Multiple Object Tracking with Dynamic Fuzzy Cognitive Maps Using Deep Learning
Object tracking is the process of matching objects detected on image sequences onto image frames. There are different types of object tracking applications used for different scenarios. For example, if a single object is being traced on an image, this is a single object tracking application. Tracking multiple objects on an image is called multiple object tracking. Fuzzy cognitive maps, on the other hand, form the model of a system by using the features of a system and the relationships between these features. Here, the single object tracking process is a matching problem, so FCM assumes a classifier role. In conventional operations, FCMs use the same weight matrix for all initial concept values. This can reduce the performance of the solution that the FCM produces for the problem it tackles. The FCM structure we use here takes advantage of the dynamic learning of FCM weights with deep learning. The study was tested on different image sequences and the performance of the proposed method were very satisfactory
Electronically tunable memristor emulator circuit
In this paper, memristor emulator circuit which is built with off the shelf electronic devices is presented. It consists of three operational transconductance amplifiers (OTA) and four second generation current conveyors (CCII). Using OTA offers an extra control parameter, operational transconductance parameter (g(m)), in addition to frequency (f) and amplitude value of voltage across emulator (v (m) ). Since g(m) is proportional to current flowing through the bias terminal of OTA, it is possible to change the memristance variation via a simple change of amplitude value. Since g(m) parameter is adjustable via an external dc voltage/current source, the memristance of presented emulator circuit is electronically tuneable. Mathematical model is derived to characterize the behaviour of the emulator circuit. Frequency analysis is performed to determine how to maintain the pinched hysteresis loop at high frequencies. The presented emulator circuit is simulated with SPICE simulation program. The breadboard experiment of emulator circuit is built using CA3080 and AD844 ICs for OTA and CCII devices respectively. Frequency dependent pinched hysteresis loop in the current versus voltage plane holds up to 10 kHz. Mathematical model and theoretical analyses show a good agreement with SPICE simulation and experimental test results
Partial purification and characterisation of polyphenol oxidase from celery root (Apium graveolens L.) and the investigation of the effects on the enzyme activity of some inhibitors
Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) of celery root was extracted and partially purified by (NH4)(2)SO4 fractionation and dialysis. Optimum pH and temperature were found at pH 7.0 and 30 degrees C, and K-m and V-max values were 29 mm and 5560 U mL(-1) min(-1) with catechol, respectively. The activation energy of the enzyme with catechol was 17.9 kJ mol(-1) at pH 7.0. In electrophoretic seperation, six isoenzymes were detected with DL-dopa substrate. PPO showed activity to catechol, 4-methylcatechol, pyrogallol, gallic acid, DL-dopa. l-Tyrosine was also tested but was not oxidised by celery root PPO. beta-Mercaptoethanol was found to be the most effective inhibitor. (NH4)(2)SO4, NaCl, KCl and sucrose appeared to be protective agents of celery root PPO against thermal denaturation. Metal ions (Cu2+, Zn2+, Mn2+) were poor inhibitors of the celery root PPO at 1 mm. PPO activity was also inhibited by CaCl2, NaCl, BaCl2, FeSO4 and NiCl2
Results from treatment of 21 patients with pancreatic necrosis and/or abscess by continous closed lesser sac or site lavage
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of necrosectomy and continuous closed lavage of the lesser sac or site in the treatment of pancreatic necrosis and/or abscess. Background: Despite in its improvement in diagnosis and treatment, acute necrotizing pancreatitis is still associated with a high incidence of mortality and morbidity. The management of sterile necrosis is still controversial. Criteria for surgical intervention in sterile necrosis and choice of technique in debridement of necrosis (conventional passive drainage, continuous lavage of the lesser sac or open abdomen) are still matters of debate. Materials and Methods: Between February 1991 and August 2003, 21 patients with necrotizing pancreatitis were treated with necrosectomy followed by continuous closed lesser sac or site lavage. Results: Among our patients, 11 had infected necrosis and 6 had sterile necrosis. Additionally, two patients had infected necrosis and abscess, and two had pancreatic abscesses. Eight cases of acute attack were managed at another clinic however, upon development of large necrosis or abscesses, these patients were subsequently transferred to our clinic. 13 patients were treated at our clinic right from the start. Reasons for surgery in 21 patients were as follows: absence of definite diagnosis (4), pancreatic abscesses (4), infected necrosis (4), persistence or advancement of organ complication despite intensive therapy (3), presentation of sepsis signs (3), organized necrosis (2) and symptomatic pseudocyst (1). Six patients (28.6 %) were documented with serious organ-system dysfunction. Three patients (14.3 %) died and among those who lived nine patients developed serious complications. The hospitalization period for patients who survived averaged between 10-65 days. (Mean: 34.0). Conclusion: Infected pancreatic necrosis and/or abscess can be treated surgically; but management of sterile necrosis is still controversial. Conservative strategies can be applied succesfully to manage most patients with sterile necrosis. Necrosectomy supplemented by postoperative closed continuous lavage of the site not only offers debridement of devitalized tissue, but also prevents development of new necrosis through nonsurgical removal of necrotic tissue and biologically active and bacterial compounds
Influence of a vegetable fat blend on the texture, microstructure and sensory properties of kashar cheese
The possibility of using a commercial vegetable fat blend in Kashar cheese was investigated. Kashar cheeses were manufactured by replacing the milk fat (MF) with a vegetable fat (VF) blend. Kashar cheeses from whole milk were also manufactured to compare textural, microstructural, meltability, color and sensory characteristics during a ripening period of 90 days. The use of vegetable fat decreased the meltability, hardness, cohesiveness, gumminess and chewiness of the cheese; while increasing adhesiveness where springiness was not affected. Differences became less notable toward the end of ripening. Scanning electron micrographs displayed VF cheese with a compact network with small and uniform fat globules embedded in the protein matrix. The MF cheese exhibited an open protein matrix containing milk fat globules of various sizes and forms. The color analysis demonstrated significant differences between cheeses. Finally, all sensory characteristics of the cheese were affected by the vegetable fat blend
Dynamics of fluid conveying pipes using Rayleigh theory under non-classical boundary conditions
The dynamic behavior of fluid conveying pipe has been investigated by using Rayleigh theory to present the effect of non-classical boundary conditions on natural frequencies. The assumption of ideal fluid is used for acquiring the equation of motion for a uniform Rayleigh pipe. The ideal fluid moves in the vertical direction with pipe and the pipe makes small oscillations by Hamilton's variation principle. Euler equation is adopted for the modeling of the flow behavior in the pipe. Accordingly, the dimensionless partial differential equations of motion are converted into matrix equations and solved for two different set of non-classical boundary conditions. The natural frequencies are obtained depending on fluid velocity and stiffnesses of boundary conditions by using Rayleigh Theory. The effect of mass ratio and slenderness ratio on vibration frequency is examined for the first three modes. The one-way FSI (Fluid-Structure Interaction) technique is used by ANSYS software to determine natural frequencies of pipe. The results of first natural frequency based on the numerical solution performed by using ANSYS-FSI are compared with the results of analytical solution for Rayleigh pipe. The relationship of anthropometric measurements with psychological criteria in female athletes
Sports and exercise settings as well as other socio-cultural environments emphasize a thin and physically fit female body. However, there is a clear need for a better understanding of the physical and psychological correlates of social physique anxiety and body image dissatisfaction in female athletes. This study aimed to examine the association of the social physique anxiety, body image satisfaction, and personality with the anthropometric measurements in female college athletes according to their sport type using the Co-Plot technique. The sample included 63 female athletes ranging in age from 18 to 26. Results of the Co-Plot analysis revealed a significant association among social physique anxiety, personality and anthropometric measurements. This means that certain physical measurements may lead to greater social physique anxiety and body image dissatisfaction in female athletes. It was found that females having higher levels of social physique anxiety and thus, lower levels of body image satisfaction may be less emotionally stable and more negatively perfectionist. In conclusion, the results of the present study provided evidence to the claim that both physical self-perception and anthropometric measurements may be closely associated with psychological criteria in female athletes
Factors affecting the views and experiences of women living in the city centre of Manisa, Turkey, regarding domestic violence
Domestic violence against women is an important social and public health problem worldwide resulting from unequal power relationships between men and women. The purpose of the present cross-sectional descriptive study was to determine the factors affecting the views and experiences of women living in the city centre of Manisa, Turkey, regarding domestic violence. The data were collected from a representative sample of women (n=873) in 2012. The socio-demographic questionnaire and the World Health Organization's Multi-country Study on Women's Health and Domestic Violence Against Women were used for data collection. The study results revealed that of the women, 14.8% were exposed to physical violence, 7.9% to sexual violence, 20.2% to emotional violence/abuse and 11.2% to economic violence/abuse within the last 12 months. Lower income level, lower social status, lower educational level, unemployment, being exposed to parental violence during childhood and being married to husbands exposed to parental violence during childhood were associated risk factors with domestic violence. The study results indicate that domestic violence against women is a common phenomenon in Manisa
