Cooling Intensification of a Continuously Moving Stretching Surface Using Different Types of Nanofluids
The effect of different types of nanoparticles on the heat transfer from a continuously moving stretching surface in a concurrent, parallel free stream has been studied. The stretching surface is assumed to have power-law velocity and temperature. The governing equations are converted into a dimensionless system of equations using nonsimilarity variables. Resulting equations are solved numerically for various values of flow parameters. The effect of physical quantities on the temperature profiles is discussed in detail
Global Initiative for Asthma Strategy 2021. Executive Summary and Rationale for Key Changes
The Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) Strategy Report provides clinicians with an annually updated evidence-based strategy for asthma management and prevention, which can be adapted for local circumstances (e.g., medication availability). This article summarizes key recommendations from GINA 2021, and the evidence underpinning recent changes. GINA recommends that asthma in adults and adolescents should not be treated solely with short-acting beta(2)-agonist (SABA), because of the risks of SABA-only treatment and SABA overuse, and evidence for benefit of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS). Large trials show that as-needed combination ICS-formoterol reduces severe exacerbations by >= 60% in mild asthma compared with SABA alone, with similar exacerbation, symptom, lung function, and inflammatory outcomes as daily ICS plus as-needed SABA. Key changes in GINA 2021 include division of the treatment figure for adults and adolescents into two tracks. Track 1 (preferred) has low-dose ICS-formoterol as the reliever at all steps: as needed only in Steps 1-2 (mild asthma), and with daily maintenance ICS-formoterol (maintenance-and-reliever therapy, MART) in Steps 3-5. Track 2 (alternative) has as-needed SABA across all steps, plus regular ICS (Step 2) or ICS-long-acting beta(2)-agonist (Steps 3-5). For adults with moderate-to-severe asthma, GINA makes additional recommendations in Step 5 for add-on long-acting muscarinic antagonists and azithromycin, with add-on biologic therapies for severe asthma. For children 6-11 years, new treatment options are added at Steps 3-4. Across all age groups and levels of severity, regular personalized assessment, treatment of modifiable risk factors, self-management education, skills training, appropriate medication adjustment, and review remain essential to optimize asthma outcomes. Fabrication and Characterization of High Performance PVDF-based flexible piezoelectric nanogenerators using PMN-xPT (x:30, 32.5, and 35) particles
Flexible piezoelectric nanogenerators based on polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) and lead magnesium niobatelead titanate Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3(PMN-xPT compositions for x between 30 and 35) particles with various filler ratios from 10 to 30 vol% were fabricated through the electrospinning method. The phase and microstructural characterizations revealed that the homogenous and continuous fiber-shaped composite structure with good interfacial interaction between the PMN-PT particles and the PVDF matrix was achieved. It was found that the diameter of the neat PVDF fibers was approximately 354 nm, whereas the PVDF/PMN-35PT fibers with ceramic particle concentrations of 10, 20, and 30 vol% had average diameters of 317, 249, and 163 nm, respectively. The piezoelectric performance tests indicated that the 30 vol%PVDF/PMN-35PT nanogenerator had a 3 times greater electrical power efficiency (10.59 mu W) at 20 Hz compared to that of the pure PVDF nanogenerator (3.56 mu W) at 15 Hz under the same resistance load of 1 M omega. All in all, the incorporation of PMNT-PT particles into the PVDF appears to be a good approach for the fabrication of high-performance flexible piezoelectric nanogenerator applications for biomechanical energy harvesting of devices converting the mechanical movements of organs such as cardiac and lung into electrical energy
Microwave-assisted hydrodistillation of essential oil from rosemary
Effects of microwave assisted hydrodistillation (MAHD) and conventional hydrodistillation (HD) methods on yield, composition, specific gravity, refractive index, and antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of essential oil of Rosmarinus officinalis L were studied. The main aroma compounds of rosemary essential oil were found as 1,8-cineole and camphor. Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) values for essential oils extracted by MAHD and HD were 1.52 mM/ml oil and 1.95 mM/ml oil, respectively. DPPH radical scavenging activity of the oils obtained by MAHD and HD were found as 60.55% and 51.04% respectively. Inhibitory effects of essential oils obtained by two methods on linoleic acid peroxidation were almost the same. Essential oils obtained by two methods inhibited growth of Esherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella typhimurium NRRLE 4463 and Listeria monocytogenes Scott A with the same degree. However, inhibitory activity of essential oil obtained by MAHD on Staphylococcus aureus 6538P was stronger than that of obtained by HD (p < 0.05)

Retinal detachment in albinism
Purpose: To report the visual and anatomic outcomes of albino retinal detachment (ARD) repair. Methods: Collaborative retrospective analysis of ARD. Outcome measures were number of surgical interventions, final retinal reattachment, and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) at last follow-up. Results: Seventeen eyes of 16 patients (12 males; mean age =37.8 years) had the following complications at presentation: macula off (14), total (7) or inferior detachment (5), proliferative vitreoretinopathy (5), detectable break (16), lattice (5), horseshoe tears (9), and giant tear or dialysis (4). Mean number of interventions was 1.8 (range = 1-5) and included cryopexy (15) with scleral buckle (11), and/or vitrectomy (8). Mean initial BCVA was counting finger (CF) 1 m and at last follow-up (mean 77 months) CF4m with mean improvement of 4.5 lines (early treatment diabetic retinopathy study) (P=0.05). Intraoperative choroidal hemorrhage occurred in three eyes. The retina was finally attached in 14 eyes, with residual inferior detachment in three eyes with silicone oil in situ. Silicone oil was kept in six of seven eyes because of residual inferior detachment (3) and removal of silicone oil, which led to redetachment (1) or fear of redetachment (2). Conclusion: Repair of ARD may require several interventions, with the need to keep silicone oil in several cases due to nystagmus and reduced melanin pigment
Wernicke's encephalopathy in a child with Down syndrome, undergoing treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia
Wernicke's encephalopathy (WE), the early diagnosis of which is crucial to prevent permanent sequelae, is an acute neurologic disorder that develops due to thiamine deficiency, and which is associated with considerable morbidity and mortality. A 10-year-old boy diagnosed with Down syndrome and acute lymphoblastic leukemia had severe vomiting and impaired consciousness following methotrexate treatment at a dose of 1 g/m(2). Biochemistry was consistent with the syndrome of inappropriate anti-diuretic hormone secretion. Level of consciousness did not improve following meticulous correction of hyponatremia, therefore cranial magnetic resonance imaging was done, which indicated specific findings consistent with WE. It should be kept in mind that Down syndrome patients are more likely to incur toxic side-effects of chemotherapeutic agents, and thus neurological complications such as WE may occur
The effects of methotrexate on the development of neural tube defects in the chick embryo
During chick development, one of the earliest differentiated tissues is the neural tube. After 24 h of incubation, a chick egg starts to differentiate and 30-48 h after incubation the neural plate is closed from head to tail to form the neural tube. If factors controlling the neural tube's closing are disrupted, this consequently causes neural tube closure defects during this time. In this study, the effect of methotrexate on the developing neural tube was investigated during early chick development. For this research, 40 specific pathogen free (SPF) white Leghorn type chick embryos were used. They were incubated for 30 h at 37.8 +/- 2 degreesC. Methotrexate, which inhibits the 2 dihydrofolate reductase enzyme by a competitive mechanism, was injected within therapeutic dosage limits (10 mg/m(2), 20 mg/m(2), 40 mg/m(2)) in ovo. Ten eggs were injected with 0.9% NaCl and used as a control group. All groups, after the injection, were incubated for 48 and 72 h. They were then dissected and the embryos were fixed in 10% (v/v) formalin for 2 h. The embryos were embedded in paraffin wax and 5 p serial sections were taken. Sections were stained with haematoxylin and then observed under light microscopy. While 20 mg/m(2) or 40 mg/m(2) methotrexate embryos were not alive when they were opened at 48 h incubation, 10 mg/m(2) methotrexate embryos maintained normal development after 48 and 72 h incubation. However, there was developmental retardation in the methotrexate injected group when compared with the control group with development of the brain being retarded; the volume of brain vesicles was lower than in the control group. Our results suggested that methotrexate, an antimetabolite of folic acid, caused neural tube closure defects when injected at therapeutic dosage levels. Folic acid is essential for normal development of the nervous system; therefore, folate antagonists might be more harmful to the central nervous system than to other parts of the developing body
Technology Development in Online Grocery Shopping-From Shopping Services to Virtual Reality, Metaverse, and Smart Devices: A Review
This paper presents a review of the technologies and services associated with online grocery shopping. The progress in the field of online grocery shopping has been very rapid in recent years. Hence, there was a need to systematize knowledge about the latest various solutions used in this topic. The authors searched the internet, focusing on websites of different supermarkets, shops, and other services that offer online shopping, as well as reviewed scientific papers. Based on the collected material, the authors created four thematic parts, which include: (1) supermarket services; (2) dedicated grocery delivery services and farm-to-table; (3) shopping in Virtual Reality and the metaverse; smart devices and (4) AI in food ordering-the last part includes smart devices, such as smart refrigerators, ovens, their functionality, and the services connected with them. The authors refer to 243 sources. The research includes the three following objectives: (1) exploring and presenting the emerging applied ways of online grocery shopping, (2) exploring and presenting the latest technological advances related to the digitalization of grocery shopping, (3) discussing the upcoming technologies, services, and methods in online grocery shopping. This paper provides knowledge about a wide range of solutions offered by both supermarkets and stores (e.g., shopping applications, VR applications, metaverse shopping) and other companies (e.g., deliveries, product tracking), highlighting the numerous functions available thanks to smart devices (e.g., voice control, own shopping lists, control of products, their quantities and expiration dates, management of user preferences, and many more). This paper also discusses social issues related to the presented solutions, such as their influence on consumer behavior, barriers to adoption, and the associated challenges
DETERMINATION OF FLOUR CHARACTERISTICS FOR KADAYIF PRODUCTION
Kadayif is a traditional Turkish dessert that is prepared by pouring wheat flour slurry onto a cycling hot plate from a nozzle followed by baking and adding syrup. Recently, demand for specific properties of flours in the bakery industry has increased In this study, physical, chemical. technological and rheological properties of Kadayif flours obtained from both Kadayzf producers and flour factories were investigated and a quality profile of flour for Kadayzf production was propounded It was determined that 43.32 - 59.05% of Kadayif flours were under 80 pm indicating that flour with fine particles were desired. Ash, protein, sedimentation value. gluten and gluten index changed between 0.53 - 0.70%. 8.10 - 10.77%, 11.2 - 29.2 mL, 19.0 - 27.7% and 50.7 - 97.6% with average values of 0.57%. 9.36%, 19.7mL, 22.1% and 81.1%, respectively. Damaged starch (3.50 - 4.90%) and water absorbtion % (49.5 - 54.3%) were low. As a result, in Kadayif production special purpose flour with low protein. low gluten content and gluten index. low sedimentation value and water absorbtion capacity is appreciated. Low protein sofi wheats with poor technological properties would be appropriate for this purpose
