    Search for the doubly charmed baryon Ξcc+

    A search for the doubly charmed baryon Xi(+)(cc) in the decay mode Xi(+)(cc) -> Lambda(+)(c) K-pi(+) is performed with a data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.65 fb(-1), of p p collisions recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of 7TeV. No significant signal is found in the mass range 3300-3800MeV/c(2). Upper limits at the 95% confidence level on the ratio of the Xi(+)(cc) production cross-section times branching fraction to that of the Lambda(+)(c), R, are given as a function of the Xi(+)(cc) mass and lifetime. The largest upper limits range from R < 1.5x10(-2) for a lifetime of 100 fs to R < 3.9 x 10(-4) for a lifetime of 400 fs

    A Historical Approach to the Development of Religious Education in the Indian Sub-Continent's Traditional Educational Institutions

    Islam reached the Indian subcontinent in its early time. The religious educational activities beganin this early period and were carried out at mosques. In time, madrasas were established in which various educational programs were developed. Designed in 18th century, Ders-i Nizami is still implemented at today's madrasas with some modifications. In this paper, we studied the development of religious education at the Indian subcontinent's madrasas from a historical perspective. We have determined three periods on the basis of historical developments and renewals. They are: 'formation of the institutional infrastructure' (711-980), 'program development and institutionalization' (980-1857) and 'restructuring and the emergence of schools of thought' (1857-1947)

    Numerical investigation and reduced order model of mixed convection at a backward facing step with a rotating cylinder subjected to nanofluid

    In the present study, numerical investigation of mixed convection at a backward facing step with a rotating cylinder subjected to nanofluid is conducted and a reduced order model of the system is obtained by using the proper orthogonal decomposition method. The governing equations are solved with a finite element based commercial solver. The effects of various pertinent parameters, Reynolds number, cylinder angular velocity and nanofluid volume fraction on the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics are numerically studied. It is observed that flow field and thermal patterns change for different parameters and heat transfer enhancement is obtained for some combinations of parameters. Length averaged Nusselt number plots indicate that there is almost a linear increase in the heat transfer enhancement with increasing Reynolds number and nanoparticle volume fraction. Heat transfer enhancement is obtained for cylinder angular velocities of Omega = -4.5 and Omega = 1.5. A reduced order model of the system with proper orthogonal decomposition method is obtained and it provides accurate results when compared to high fidelity CFD model of the system.     Investigation of the Element Diffusion in Friction Welded X53CrMnNiN219 and X45CrSi93 Steels

    In this study, high alloyed steel bars with a diameter of 12.30 mm made up of 1.4871 (X53CrMnNiN219) and 1.4718 (X45CrSi93) steels were used as experimental material for friction welding. Metallographic and X-ray diffraction investigations as well as microprobe sampling were performed on the samples. Mechanical orientation of particles caused by plastic deformation and carbide scattering has been observed. The diffusion behaviour has been investigated for the elements Cr, Ni, Mn, and Si, respectively. The existence of (Cr,Fe)(7)C-3 carbides in the welding region was also observed

    Traditional sectors are being replaced by digitalisation in most areas of economic life. Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are expected to leave their mark on the future. In the study, the effect of AI on employment and productivity is carried out using panel data for the 2002-2021 period for the ten countries that use the relevant technologies the most, and the Vector Error Correction Model, cointegration, Granger and Toda-Yamamoto causality tests. As a result of the analysis, a long-term positive relationship is determined between patent applications, R&D expenditures, high-tech product exports, and employment and productivity representing AI technologies, and according to the Toda-Yamamoto causality test results, there is a relationship between proxy variables representing artificial intelligence technologies and employment and productivity. It is concluded that there is” a multi-directional causality relationship. © 2025, Sosyoekonomi Society. All rights reserved

    Forced Convection Laminar Pulsating Flow in a 90-deg Bifurcation

    Numerical investigation of laminar forced convection of pulsating flow in a 90-deg bifurcation was performed with the finite volume method. The inlet velocity varies sinusoidally with time while constant wall temperature is utilized. The working fluid is air with constant properties and the numerical work is conducted for a range of the Reynolds numbers (100-2000), dividing flowrates (0.3-0.7) and Strouhal numbers (0.1-10). It is observed that the amplitudes of oscillating heat transfer are damped as the value of the Strouhal number increases. The average value of Nu number rises for higher Reynolds number and the dividing flowrate for the downstream wall of the y-channel branch. As the value of the dividing flowrate increases from 0.3 to 0.7, heat transfer is less effective in the vicinity of the branch at the Reynolds number of 500. The effects of the Reynolds number on the average Nu number variation is more pronounced for the y-branch wall for different values of dividing flowrates. Resonant type behavior of average Nu number is obtained for the y-branch channel for diving flowrates of 0.3 and 0.5

    Prognosis of hospitalized patients with community-acquired pneumonia

    Introduction: The long-term prognosis of patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) has attracted increasing interest in recent years. The objective of the present study is to investigate the short and long-term outcomes in hospitalized patients with CAP and to identify the predictive factors associated with mortality. Patients and methods: The study was designed as a retrospective, multicenter, observational study. Hospitalized patients with CAP, as recorded in the pneumonia database of the Turkish Thoracic Society between 2011 and 2013, were included. Short-term mortality was defined as 30-day mortality and long-term mortality was assessed from those who survived 30 days. Predictive factors for short- and long-term mortality were analyzed. Results: The study included 785 patients, 68% of whom were male and the mean age was 67 +/- 16 (18-92). The median duration of follow-up was 61.2 +/- 11.8 (37-90) months. Thirty-day mortality was 9.2% and the median survival of patients surviving 30 days was 62.8 +/- 4.4 months. Multivariate analysis revealed that advanced age, the absence of fever, a higher Charlson comorbidity score, higher blood urea nitrogen (BUN)/albumin ratios and lower alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels were all predictors of long-term mortality. Conclusion: Long-term mortality following hospitalization for CAP is high. Charlson score and lack of fever are potential indicators for decreased long-term survival. As novel parameters, baseline BUN/albumin ratios and ALT levels are significantly associated with late mortality. Further interventions and closer monitoring are necessary for such subgroups of patients. (C) 2017 Sociedade Portuguesa de Pneumologia. Published by Elsevier Espana, S.L.U

    Retinal artery macroaneurysm as initial presentation of hypertension

    A case of uncontrolled hypertension with a vitreoretinal hemorrhage due to a retinal artery macroaneurysm of the right eye and chorioretinal scars of the left eye as initial symptom of hypertension is presented. End organ damage was undiagnosed until an intraocular hemorrhage appeared in the right eye. The hemorrhage and retinal macroaneursym disappeared spontaneously with proper medical therapy for hypertension. (C) 2003 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved

    Development and validation of combined symptom-medication scores for allergic rhinitis*

    Background Validated combined symptom-medication scores (CSMSs) are needed to investigate the effects of allergic rhinitis treatments. This study aimed to use real-life data from the MASK-air(R) app to generate and validate hypothesis- and data-driven CSMSs. Methods We used MASK-air(R) data to assess the concurrent validity, test-retest reliability and responsiveness of one hypothesis-driven CSMS (modified CSMS: mCSMS), one mixed hypothesis- and data-driven score (mixed score), and several data-driven CSMSs. The latter were generated with MASK-air(R) data following cluster analysis and regression models or factor analysis. These CSMSs were compared with scales measuring (i) the impact of rhinitis on work productivity (visual analogue scale [VAS] of work of MASK-air(R), and Work Productivity and Activity Impairment: Allergy Specific [WPAI-AS]), (ii) quality-of-life (EQ-5D VAS) and (iii) control of allergic diseases (Control of Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma Test [CARAT]). Results We assessed 317,176 days of MASK-air(R) use from 17,780 users aged 16-90 years, in 25 countries. The mCSMS and the factor analyses-based CSMSs displayed poorer validity and responsiveness compared to the remaining CSMSs. The latter displayed moderate-to-strong correlations with the tested comparators, high test-retest reliability and moderate-to-large responsiveness. Among data-driven CSMSs, a better performance was observed for cluster analyses-based CSMSs. High accuracy (capacity of discriminating different levels of rhinitis control) was observed for the latter (AUC-ROC = 0.904) and for the mixed CSMS (AUC-ROC = 0.820). Conclusion The mixed CSMS and the cluster-based CSMSs presented medium-high validity, reliability and accuracy, rendering them as candidates for primary endpoints in future rhinitis trials
