Reduction of [Cp*2Mo2O5] in aqueous medium: Structure and properties of a triangular mixed oxo-hydroxo-bridged product, [Cp*3Mo3(μ-O)2(μ-OH)4](X)2 (X =CF3CO2 or CF3SO3)

    No full text
The reduction of [CP*2MO2O5] with Zn in a MeOH/H2O solotion acidified with either CF3COOH or CF3SO3H leads to the formation of the [CP*3MO3(mu-O)(2)(mu-OH)(4)](2+) ion as its trifluoroacetate or trifluoromethanesulfonate salt. The structure of the compound was confirmed by X-ray analyses. The anions establish hydrogen-bonding interactions with all four bridging OH groups. Density functional calculations afford bonding parameters in close agreement with the observed structure and indicate that the cluster is best described as a valence-delocalized Mo-3(13+) species. The five metal electrons are distributed among an a-type (z(2)) orbital, which accounts for most of the metal-metal attraction, and two essentially metal-metal nonbonding e-type (xy) orbitals with a slight Mo(mu-O) pi*-type contribution. Because of the C-2 symmetry, the latter orbitals are not degenerate. The calculations show that the unpaired electron is located in a molecular orbital with equal contribution from two Mo atoms, in agreement with the experimental observation of coupling of the unpaired electron to two Mo atoms in the isotropic EPR spectrum. A fuzzy analytic hierarchy process methodology for the supplier selection problem

    No full text
Purpose - Purchasing activities of a company form a very important part in the operation of the company. The quality of production and services mainly rely on the performance of the suppliers. In addition, a large amount of the product's total cost belongs to the purchasing cost of its materials. Therefore, selecting the most suitable suppliers is very important for the firm. Unfortunately, most of the time, suppliers cannot provide the highest quality parts on-time at the lowest costs in the market. In other words, quality, delivery and cost objectives conflict with each other. The purpose of this paper is to determine the best supplier for the firm according to these conflicting objectives. Design/methodology/approach - In this study a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) approach is employed for the supplier selection problem of a textile company. First the selection criteria according to company's objectives are determined. Then the pair-wise comparisons are made on a fuzzy basis. Similarly, in the next step, the six alternative suppliers are compared by fuzzy means. Findings - Finally, the two suppliers which achieved the highest performance are advised to the company and this study is the first one which employs FAHP using fuzzy prioritization method in supplier selection problem. Originality/value - There are many different applications of FAHP in literature and some of these have found applications in supplier selection problem. However, to the best of the authors' knowledge this study is the first one which employs FAHP using fuzzy prioritization method in supplier selection problem

    No full text
Objectives: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is the most common peripheral nerve compression syndrome. This study aims to evaluate the additive contribution of phonophoresis and low-level laser therapy (LLLT) to tendon and nerve gliding exercises electrophysiologically, ultrasonographically, and clinically in the treatment of moderate CTS. Methods: The sample consisted of 45 patients with moderate CTS, randomized into three groups. Group 1 received phonophoresis and exercise, Group 2 received LLLT and exercise, and Group 3 received exercise alone. Participants were evaluated electrophysiologically, clinically, and ultrasonographically before treatment and at the 6th and 12th weeks after the treatment. Results: An improvement was observed in clinical parameters (Boston Functional Status Scale, Boston Symptom Severity Scale, visual analog scale at rest, and visual analog scale during activity) for all groups at the 6th and 12th weeks after the treatment (p<0.05). An improvement was also noted in the ultrasonographic parameter (cross-sectional area) for all groups at the 12th week after the treatment (p=0.017). Conclusion: Phonophoresis and LLLT do not provide additional effects to exercise therapy. Exercise therapy alone may positively contribute to ultrasonographic and clinical outcomes in the treatment of moderate CTS

Gingival crevicular fluid and serum hCAP18/LL-37 levels in generalized aggressive periodontitis

    No full text
hCAP18/LL-37 is an endogenous antibiotic having a role in innate immunity. The aim of the present study was to evaluate serum and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) hCAP18/LL-37 levels in patients with generalized aggressive periodontitis (G-AgP). Twenty-six G-AgP patients, 24 gingivitis patients, and 25 healthy subjects were included in this study. Periodontal parameters including probing depth, clinical attachment level, plaque index, and papilla bleeding index were recorded. GCF and serum hCAP18/LL-37 levels were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. GCF hCAP18/LL-37 level was significantly higher in G-AgP compared to others (p = 0.038, p 0.05). Increased levels of GCF hCAP18/LL-37 in G-AgP might show that it is abundantly expressed in the presence of periodontal tissue destruction. Serum hCAP18/LL-37 levels do not seem to be related with the presence of G-AgP. hCAP18/LL-37 antimicrobial peptide might be associated with periodontal tissue destruction in the presence of aggressive periodontitis

Background: Trastuzumab is commonly utilized in the management of metastatic HER2-positive breast cancer. Our main goal was to examine the clinical outcomes and immune markers of patients who received trastuzumab and chemotherapy treatment. Methods: Between 1995 and 2012, a total of 98 patients diagnosed with metastatic HER2-positive breast cancer were retrospectively analyzed at Ege University Hospital and Tepecik Training and Research Hospital. The clinicopathological characteristics and clinical outcomes of the patients were assessed, and the associations between response rates, survival and the immune profiles of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes were statistically evaluated. Results: The average age of patients at the time of diagnosis was 50.1 +/- 10.3 (ranging from 30 to 79) years. The mean follow-up period for all patients was 97.9 +/- 53.8 months. Among the patients, complete response was observed in 24.5%, partial response in 61.2%, and stable disease in 8.2% of cases. The average progression-free survival was 50.3 +/- 26.9 months (ranging from 1 to 163 months), and the average overall survival was 88.8 +/- 59.4 months (ranging from 12 to 272 months). After analyzing all cases, it was found that patients who were younger (p=0.006), exhibited higher CD3-positivity (p=0.041), presented with higher FOXP3-positivity (p=0.025), showed complete or at least partial response to treatment (p=0.008), and experienced a long-term response to trastuzumab (and chemotherapy) treatment had longer survival (p=0.001). Conclusion: Patients with HER2-positive breast cancer, who initially respond positively to palliative trastuzumab and chemotherapy treatment, can achieve long-term tumor remission lasting for several years

A multinomial logit model based approach to find patterns among occupational accidents in Turkish manufacturing systems

    No full text
Turkish manufacturing industry is in the top three in terms of occupational accident frequency among sectors. Therefore, there is a need to determine accident cause-effect relationships in order to improve occupational safety and minimize the risks that cause occupational accidents in the manufacturing industry. An integreated data driven approach is proposed to find patterns among occupational accidents in Turkish manufacturing systems. The proposed approach uses multinomial logit model (MLM) and decision tree algorithms, namely C5.0, Classification and Regression Trees (C&RT), The quaternion estimation (QUEST), Chi-square automatic interaction detector (CHAID) ve Random Trees. In this study, 307,590 occupational accidents in the Turkish manufacturing industry between 2013 and 2019 are used. It is found that there is a statistically significant relationship among division, geographical location of the accident, year, deviation, hour day, gender and age for all accidents with injury, death and loss of limb according to the absence of disability. Additionally, division, geographical location of the accident and year are among the top five predictors based on decision tree algorithms

A novel suture technique in stellate corneal lacerations

    No full text
A novel suture technique for regular stellate corneal lacerations, called a star-shaped suture is described. The suturing begins from inside any of the wound tips in a clockwise direction. Suture placement proceeds in a counterclockwise direction by the adjacent wound limb, while the suture passes are all in clock-wise direction. Finally, a star-shaped suture is achieved with the knot self-buried in the corneal stroma at the initial entry site. This is a continuous suture, of which tractional forces direct to the center of the wound providing good apical apposition for stellate lacerations. This suture technique can be an alternative for the reconstruction of stellate corneal lacerations

Comparison of Immediate Effects of Foam Rolling and Dynamic Stretching to Only Dynamic Stretching on Flexibility, Balance, and Agility in Male Soccer Players

    No full text
Context: Dynamic stretching (DS) is typically suggested during warm-up protocols. Also, foam rolling (FR), which is applied with a foam cylinder, has increased popularity in recent years. However, the combined effects of DS and FR in improving flexibility, dynamic balance, and agility performance are unclear in current literature. Therefore, this study aim to evaluate and compare the acute effects of DS as well as DS followed by FR (DS + FR) on flexibility, dynamic balance, and agility in male soccer players. Design: This study was a crossover study with a within-subject design. Methods: Thirty volunteer male soccer players (mean age 18.80 [0.66] y) were included in the study. Each participant performed the 2 sessions (DS and DS + FR) on separate occasions in a randomized order, with an interval of 72 hours. All sessions were performed in the indoor gym at the sports club. Flexibility was assessed by sit-and-reach test, dynamic balance was assessed by Y balance test, and agility was assessed by t test. Results: Compared with the pretest results, significant improvement in flexibility was observed in both groups (change = 0.55, percentage change = 2.05, effect size [ES] = 0.15, P = .041; change = 0.64, percentage change = 2.36, ES = 0.20, P = .025; respectively). Balance scores did not significantly improve in either group (change = 0.40, percentage change = 0.45, ES = 0.09, P = .342; change = 0.93, percentage change = 1.02, ES = 0.23, P = .103; respectively). Agility performance significantly improved in both groups (change = -0.12, percentage change = -1.18, ES = 0.19, P = .021; change = -0.21, percentage change = -2.18, ES = 0.38, P= .005; respectively). Conclusions: Both DS and DS + FR improved flexibility and agility and did not affect balance. DS + FR was not superior to DS at improving flexibility and agility as compared only with DS. Both methods are effective warm-up protocols to augment factors related to injury risk and performance. It seems that further studies that investigate the combined effects of FR and DS are needed

    No full text
Objective: To compare the sexual functions in women with labia minora hypertrophy and age matched healthy controls. Material and method: 43 patients with labia minora hypertrophy and 30 age-matched healthy controls were enrolled in the present study. The sexual functions of the women were evaluated by using the index of female sexual function (IFSF). Results: Mean ages of the patients and controls were 30.06 +/- 7.11 and 31.34 +/- 4.12 (p = 0.41), respectively. Mean total IFSF scores of the patients and controls were 24.18 +/- 3.24 and 27.53 +/- 4.43 (p < 0.05), respectively. The subscale scores of IFSF-lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction and pain in the patient group were significantly lower than in the control group (respectively, p < 0.001, p < 0.05, p < 0.001 and p < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between IFSF-arousal scores of the patient and control groups (p = 0.30). The mean IFSF-desire scores of the patient group was higher than the controls (p < 0.001). Labia minora hypertrophy was significantly associated with female sexual dysfunction (odds ratio [OR] = 14.97, 95% confidence interval [Cl] = [3.66-61.21], p < 0.001). Conclusion: This study suggests that patients with labia minora hypertrophy have poorer lubrication, satisfaction, pain, and orgasm scores on the IFSF scale compared to age-matched healthy controls. Evaluation of Serological Tests for Diagnosis of Brucellosis

    No full text
The aim of the present study was to compare serological tests (Rose Bengal [RB]; standard agglutination test [SAT]; enzyme immunoassay [ETA] for detection of IgM, IgA, and IgG; and 2-mercaptoethanol [2-ME] test) that are routinely used in patients prediagnosed with different clinical types of brucellosis (acute, subacute, or chronic), and to evaluate the results of the IgG avidity test. Ninety-two patients having titers >= 1/160 as measured by SAT were included in the study. The IgG avidity test was performed in 78 patients who had positive EIA-IgG results. RB test results were positive in 88 (95.7%) patients. A statistically significant correlation was found between a positive EIA-IgM result and the diagnosis of acute brucellosis. When compared to the results of the SAT, the 2-ME test showed a lower titer in 55 (59.8%) patients, and the agreement between the 2-ME test and EIA-IgG was calculated as 84.8%. No statistical difference was found between the 40% avidity index used in the IgG avidity test and avidity maturation time (6 months). From our study, we concluded that (i) the RB and SAT tests are appropriate and reliable tests for the serological diagnosis of brucellosis; (ii) IgM can be used as a marker of acute brucellosis; (iii) the 2-ME test, similar to EIA, can be used to determine IgM levels; and (iv) the IgG avidity test should be standardized
