Sustainable Management of Blue Swimming Crab in Thailand
Get PDFNational Plan of Action on Sustainable Management of Blue Swimming Crab (BSC) of Thailand was developed through a series of participatory consultations among government, private sector, academics, fishers, and NGO. It applied the SWOT analysis and in line with indicators of Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Fisheries Standard aiming at sustainable utilization of BSC in Thailand based on international principles. The 4-year implementation period of the Plan started from 2015 to 2018 covering 4 strategies, 8 measures, and 21 activities. The 4 strategies are (a) improving information on BSC fisheries and relevant resources, (b) establishment the direction on BSC restoration, (c) controlling inputs to BSC fishing and utilizing, and (d) promotion of local participation and responsible BSC fishing. All activity-level implementations were monitored and evaluated in the aspects of BSC stocks, environmental impacts, and management

No full textUSAID Oceans held its 3rd Annual Regional Technical Working Group (TWG) Planning Workshop, July 16-18, 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. The Workshop was convened following the mid-term evaluation of USAID Oceans to update partners on the program’s activities and take stock of partner progress, but the primary objective was to elicit inputs from the TWG and implementing partners to guide the way forward for the project. The event was attended by a total of one hundred participants, the bulk of them members of the USAID Oceans TWG representing the member-states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and technical leads from the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) and the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF). Also represented were key United States Government (USG) partners, namely, USAID Regional Development Mission for Asia (USAID/RDMA), USAID Office of Forestry and Biodiversity (FAB), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Department of the Interior (DOI). No full textThe density and distribution of marine benthos were examined between 7-18
November 2016 from 24 Stations with the aimed of studying the benthos community in
terms of abundance and species diversity. There are 18,953 individual samples collected by
Smith Mc-Intyre grab with dimension of 0.1089 m2 A. total of 5 groups were identified.
Total marine benthos abundance was recorded 3,783 ind./m2, 3,673 ind./m2 and 2,094
ind./m2 respectively in station 8, station 24 and station 15. The Crustacea (10,395 ind./m2)
was dominant all the study station (except in station 4, 12 and 23) in the Cambodian Water.
The overall composition of marine benthos are Crustacea (54.7 %), Polychate (33.3 %),
Mollusca (4.3 %), Echinidermata (2.0%) and Other groups. The present study reveals that
the marine benthos and their abundance are variable among the Cambodia Water. The
obtained information can be use for the further study of seasonal change of marine benthos
and conserve biodiversity of the Cambodia Water

The meeting aimed to introduce and consult with the Kampot Provincial Line Departments. The results of workshop are improved knowledge on fisheries refugia by the provincial lead Departments such as military police, and maritime navy, and etc. who related to the sustainable development projects/programs at provincial level. The workshop identified the provincial program/projects related to sustainable development as well as the results of threats fish life cycle and critical habitat linkages, baseline information and data collection plans, the stakeholder analysis and engagement planning, and the planning of socio economic survey in use assessment impact of area based management in the area of fisheries refugia sites, and use of media for communication.
