The Fifth Meeting of Thailand’s National Scientific And Technical Committee
This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The fifth meeting of Thailand’s National Scientific and Technical Committee for the project entitled “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand” was conducted virtually via Zoom Application by the Department of Fisheries on 6th July 2021. The meeting was chaired by Ms. Praulai Nootmorn, Senior Expert in Marine Fisheries and National Focal Point for Thailand, acted for Senior Expert in Fisheries Management, the Chairperson, in his absence. There were 21 attendees participating in the meeting, composed of 14 committee members, 2 project officers for DOF, and 5 observers form Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Project Coordinating Unit, Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency, and Department of Marine and Coastal Resources. This meeting was focusing on the Revision of Thailand’s National Scientific and Technical Committee, Progress of the Project Implementation, Report on the Project Extension, Report on the Catch Information of Short Mackerel from Gill Net Fisheries in Trat Province during the year 2018-2021 and the Management Planning for Fisheries Refugia of Short Mackerel at Trat Site concerning Gill Net Fisheries.UNEP/GE

The Second Meeting of Fisheries Refugia Management Plan Drafting for Penaeid Shrimp in West Kalimantan
This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The Second Meeting of Fisheries Refugia Management Plan Drafting for Penaeid Shrimp in West Kalimantan was conducted in Research Institute for Fish Resource Enhancement. RIFRE, Purwakarta, West Java on 16 December 2021 with 12 participants from Research Institute for Fish Resource Enhancement, Centre for Fisheries Research, and Indonesia Fisheries Refugia Project. The objective of this meeting was to draft a management plan of Banana shrimps (P. merguiensis and P. Indicus) with a refugia fisheries approach in West Kalimantan.UNEP/GE
Report of the 5th Meeting of the Project Steering Committee
This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand”The Fifth Meeting of the Project Steering Committee, held on 3 September 2021, aims to continue updating the progress of works and review the issues raised for consideration and approval by the PSC. Many issues addressed to the Committee are for consideration and decision, such as conducting the Mid-term review and 3rd budget revision within the 4th quarter of 2021. The PCU also updated the Regional Action Plan for Indo-Pacific Mackerel status, signing an agreement between SEAFDEC and six participating countries to the PSC5 meeting.UNEP/GE
Fisheries Refugia Site Management Committee Meeting: Masinloc Site
This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The meeting was attended by the Municipality of Masinloc, Ms. Olive Gregorio, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer, the LGU Focal Person of the Refugia Project, and NFRDI lead staff held on 8 November 2021. The meeting confirmed the priority species and boundary delineation for Masinloc Refugia. National Guidelines for the Establishment of Fisheries Refugia were addressed, while the initial draft was commented on and endorsed by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). Stakeholder Consultation Meeting at Provincial Level on Establishment of Marine Fisheries Management Area Including Fisheries Refugia in Kampot Province
This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The stakeholder consultation meeting at provincial level on the establishment of marine fisheries management area including fisheries refugia in Kampot was organized by Fisheries Administration(FiA) of Cambodia collaborating with Kampot Provincial Hall Administration and Kampot Fisheries Administration Cantonment on 8 September 2021. The purpose of the meeting was to form marine fisheries management area including fisheries refugia in Kampot province. Site Based Management Board Meeting for Mackerel Refugia Management at Peam Krasob, Koh Kong Province
This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The 3rd Meeting of Technical Working Group for Marine Fisheries Protection and Conservation Area in Koh Kong province was organized by Fisheries Administration (FiA) of Cambodia collaborating with Koh Kong Provincial Hall Administration on 16 December 2021 with 25 participants from Provincial Hall Administration, Fisheries Administration, Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, Fisheries Administration Cantonment, Department of Environment, Department of Tourism, Department of Land Management, Urbanization Construction, and Cadastral, Kiri Sarkor District Administration, Mondol Sema District Administration, Sre Ambil District Administration, Koh Sdach Commune, Koh Kong Provincial Police, Koh Kong Provincial Military Police, Sea Open Unit, Maritime Police, and NGOs. The meeting focused on 4 reports including progress report of preparation for 5 years Action Plan for Management of Mackerel Refugia in Koh Kong Province; Progress report of Mackerel Refugia at Peam Krasob; Progress report of Management of Estuarine Terrapin (Batagur affinis) and Siamese crocodile (Crocodylus siamensis) in Sre Ambil Channel System, Koh Kong province; and Progress report of Process of Establishment of Marine Fisheries Management area (MFMA) in Koh Sdach Archipelago, Koh Kong.UNEP/GE
National Reviews on Reforms of National Legislation for Responsible Fisheries Relating to Fisheries Refugia: Thailand
This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”This report aims to review the reformed national legislation for responsible fisheries relating to fisheries refugia which are supportive to the management schemes in the priority fisheries refugia sites in Thailand. In addition, the report provides the current ministerial, provincial, and municipal regulations issued under the reformed national fisheries laws which have been enforced in the fisheries refugia sites. This can be considered as the data set of best practice approaches and measures for responsible fisheries and fisheries refugia management planning in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand.UNEP/GE
Coastal Environmental Characteristic for Shrimps (Penaeus Merguiensis and P. Indicus) Habitat Suitability Assessment of West Kalimantan
This report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The survey activity to assess the waters quality of shrimp habitat was conducted at the coastal area of West Kalimantan on 11th – 18th of October 2021. The objective of this activities was to determine the characteristics of the waters environment that supports the life cycle of shrimp species Penaeus merguiensis and P. indicus shrimp from the coast of West Kalimantan. The activity focused on water depth, water temperature, dissolved Oxygen (DO) concentration, salinity, pH, waters turbidity, water brightness, and total dissolved solids (TDS) of water.UNEP/GE
