Get PDFThis report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”Training-workshop on the Introduction of Ecopath with Ecosim Program for the Assessment and Management of Fisheries Resources was financed by the Project entitled Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand. It was organized virtually via Zoom Platform by the Department of Fisheries on 29th November – 3rd December 2021. The training-workshop was instructed by 2 experts: Prof. Tuanthong Jutagate, Ph.D. from the Faculty of Agriculture, Ubon Ratchathani University and Dr. Elizabeth Ann Fulton from CSIRO - Division of Marine and Atmospheric Research. There were 15 participants from the Department of fisheries attended the training-workshop. The course aimed to introduce to the fisheries technical officers in the Department of Fisheries a basic functional understanding of what the model of Ecopath and Ecosim (EwE) does and how to use it for assessment and management of fisheries resources.UNEP/GE

Get PDFThis report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The sixth meeting of Thailand’s National Scientific and Technical Committee for the project entitled “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand” was conducted virtually via Zoom Platform by the Department of Fisheries on 11th August 2021, 13.30 – 16.30 hours. The meeting was chaired by Ms. Praulai Nootmorn, Senior Expert in Marine Fisheries and National Focal Point for Thailand, acted for Senior Expert in Fisheries Management, the Chairman, in his absence. There were 21 attendees participating in the meeting, composed of 15 committee members, 3 project officers for DOF, and 3 observers form Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, and Project Coordinating Unit. This meeting was focusing on the Information of Short Mackerel Resources in Koh Kong of Cambodia, Catch Information of Short Mackerel in Trat Province during the year 2019-2020, and the Management Planning for Fisheries Refugia of Short Mackerel at Trat Site concerning Gill Net Fisheries.UNEP/GE

In this meeting discussed the plan for the implementation of fisheries refugia activities to be carried out in West Kalimantan and Bangka Belitung. The meeting indicated that Fisheries refugia will carry the same concept as area conservation that has been carried out by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, under the Directorate General of Marine Spatial Planning.UNEP/GE

Get PDFThis report is under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on “Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and Gulf of Thailand”The stakeholder consultation meeting for establishing fisheries refugia in West Kalimantan was organized by Research Institute for Fish resource Enhancement in Padang Tikar Village (Kubu Raya District), and Dusun Besar-Pulau Maya (Kayong Utara District), West Kalimantan on 22-23-24September 2021 with the total of 12, 10 and 25 participants respectively. The objectives of the meeting were to gain information regarding fishing activities and fishing ground for shrimp especially banana (Penaeus merguiensis) and white shrimp (Penaeus indicus) in Padang Tikar; to identify key threats to shrimp stock and the critical habitat linkages in Padang Tikar area; to identify key threats to fisheries refugia site; and to draft maps of fisheries refugia boundary in West Kalimantan.UNEP/GE

The Teleworkshop aims to 1) reviewing, exchanging and updating the information on vessel registration and fishing license through the implementation activities to combat IUU fishing among AMSs, and 2) improving the RFVR database management and operations through the introduction and demonstration of the use of template/format of CSV/Excel file to upload the KDEs to the RFVR database

Regional cooperation among the countries In the Gulf of Thailand Sub-region, led the adoption of the Regional Action Plan for management of Transboundary Species: Indo-Pacific Mackerel (Rastrelliger brachysoma). The RAP was adopted by SEAFDEC to apply to other sea areas in the Southeast Asia.UNEP/GE
