    Elaboration, post-annealing and energy harvesting performance of NBT-6BT thick films produced by aerosol deposition

    International audienceThis study investigates the fabrication and the properties of 0.94 (Na0.5Bi0.5)TiO3-0.06 BaTiO3 (NBT-6BT) thick films elaborated by the Aerosol Deposition (AD) method. The as-deposited films exhibit reduced grain size, partial amorphization, and lack of ferro/piezoelectricity. Post-annealing led to a progressive enhancement of crystallinity and grain growth, restoring ferro/piezoelectric properties. Selected Area Diffraction (SAD) patterns of annealed samples confirm the coexistence of tetragonal and rhombohedral phases, characteristic of the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB). The 1000 °C annealed films exhibit the highest properties, with remnant polarization of ~20 µC·cm-2, coercive field of 5 kV·mm-1, and maximum strain response of 0.3 % for a 10 KV·mm-1 electric field. In addition, the annealing process reduces the leakage currents, indicating improved film quality. Energy harvesting tests using cantilever-based devices confirm effective mechanical-to-electrical energy conversion, with a maximum harvested power of 3.53 nW. These results highlight the potential of AD-deposited NBT-6BT films for lead-free piezoelectric applications, including sensors, actuators, and energy harvesters

    L'Eco-Anxiété : une condition mentale émergente... et inquiétante ?

    International audienceL'éco-anxiété est une condition mentale, qui est apparue ces dernières décennies de façon synchrone avec la prise de conscience d’un réchauffement climatique mondiale inéluctable. Déjà caractérisée comme le « mal du siècle » qui impact la santé mentale de millions de personnes, l’éco anxiété se définit comme une angoisse liée à l’incertitude de l’avenir causée par les changements climatiques et l’inaction globale des sphères décisionnels. Elle se caractérise par la manifestation de plusieurs troubles anxieux, vecteurs d’aggravation de la santé mentale de personnes déjà atteintes de pathologies psychiatriques ou psychologiques, mais pas seulement. L’éco anxiété est donc une angoisse floue et générale liée aux catastrophes climatiques passées, présentes et futures. Une étude menées récemment dans 10 pays (publiée dans The Lancet Planetary Health), a montré qu’elle touchait plus les femmes que les hommes, les urbains que les ruraux, et surtout que les jeunes (de 16 à 25 ans) étaient particulièrement concernés. A la fin de sa communication, l’orateur proposera un test d’évaluation anonymisé aux participants et commentera en direct le niveau d’éco-anxiété du groupe, tandis que les évaluations individuelles (anonymisées par l’utilisation de pseudonymes) seront disponibles pour les participants avant la fin de la journée

    Antithrombotic treatment following revascularization for chronic limb-threatening ischaemia: a scientific statement of the European Society of Cardiology Working Group on Aorta and Peripheral Vascular Diseases and the European Society of Cardiology Working Group on Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy

    International audienceChronic limb-threatening ischaemia (CLTI) is defined as ischaemic rest pain, or non-healing ulceration, requiring endovascular or surgical lower limb revascularization (LLR). Lower limb revascularization in CLTI entails a high risk of major adverse limb events (MALE) and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). This scientific statement addresses this risk based on a systematic review. A structured literature search was performed, and articles were independently evaluated by two investigators. In total, 1678 articles were identified, of which 34 were included in the final analysis. Only three randomized controlled trials (RCTs) addressed antithrombotic therapy in CLTI following LLR. None of these demonstrated superiority of any antithrombotic regimen over the other. Eight RCTs investigated antithrombotic therapy following LLR in populations with peripheral arterial disease including CLTI subgroups and suggest a benefit of dual antiplatelet therapy on limb events. One large RCT demonstrated that dual pathway inhibition with aspirin and vascular-dose rivaroxaban reduced the risk of MALE, MACE, and unplanned target limb revascularization. Data from 22 observational studies suggest a benefit of dual antiplatelet therapy on overall survival and amputation-free survival after LLR as compared with single antiplatelet therapy. Intensified antithrombotic treatment should be proposed in patients with CLTI following LLR to reduce the risk of MALE and MACE. Randomized controlled trials on antithrombotic therapy in patients with CLTI following LLR are scarce. Dual pathway inhibition is the only regimen for which an RCT demonstrated a reduction of MALE and MACE following LLR. Dual antiplatelet therapy appears to be associated with a reduced risk of MALE in CLTI following LLR

    International audienceThis issue of the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology focuses on prevention from an environmental and social perspective. Environmental risks of health and well-being and social challenges, like health disparities, are major global issues that we face nowadays.The issue starts off with air pollution. Swieczkowski et al.1 investigated the association between short-term exposure to air pollution and ischaemic stroke. In the paper called ‘Association between exposure to air pollution and increased ischaemic stroke incidence: a retrospective population-based cohort study (EP-PARTICLES study)’, authors conducted a retrospective population-based cohort study including 8 million Polish inhabitants between 2011 and 2020. Major findings were that (i) increased air pollution was associated with a higher risk of ischaemic stroke on the day of onset, (ii) the negative effects of air pollution depended on age, sex, area characteristics, and lifestyle, in which especially high tobacco and alcohol consumption amplified the negative effects, and (iii) exposure to low levels of air pollutants, even lower than the WHO recommendations, could be harmful. This study suggests that avoiding short-term exposure to air pollution is a pivotal aspect of primary stroke prevention and that there might be no ‘safe’ levels of air pollution

    Rôle des infirmières dans la gestion des maladies non transmissibles au Moyen-Orient : une revue de la littérature

    International audienceChaque année, environ 20 millions de personnes au Moyen-Orient sont affectées par des maladies chroniques telles que le diabète, les maladies cardiovasculaires et les affections respiratoires. Ces pathologies représentent des défis majeurs pour les systèmes de santé, nécessitant des stratégies innovantes pour améliorer la prise en charge des patients. Le transfert de tâches, soutenu par l'Organisation mondiale de la santé, est l'une des stratégies visant à accroître l'accès aux soins en déléguant certaines responsabilités des médecins aux infirmières. Malgré ses bénéfices potentiels, il existe peu de revues systématiques sur le rôle des infirmières dans la gestion des maladies chroniques dans cette région. Cette étude a pour objectif d'examiner de manière approfondie les rôles actuels des infirmières dans la gestion des maladies chroniques au Moyen-Orient, d’évaluer leur niveau de connaissances, et de mettre en évidence les défis et lacunes rencontrés. Une revue exploratoire a été conduite, en se basant sur cinq bases de données (MEDLINE, CINAHL, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Embase et PsycINFO) entre janvier et février 2024. Parmi les 67 études retenues, les infirmières ont un rôle essentiel dans les soins palliatifs, l'éducation thérapeutique, l'adhésion aux traitements et le soutien aux familles. Cependant, des défis tels que les tabous culturels, le manque de formation continue et les difficultés émotionnelles demeurent. L'amélioration des soins nécessite des programmes de formation adaptés, une supervision accrue et des politiques de santé robustes pour combler les lacunes identifiées et optimiser la gestion des maladies chroniques dans cette région

    Triarylphosphonium BODIPY‐Based [2]Rotaxanes Nanoparticles for Light‐Driven Antibacterial Applications

    International audienceAntimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) is a promising strategy to overcome issues related to antibiotic resistance. Here the rationale for designing new photosensitizers is described based on the functionalization of bodipy dyes with triarylphosphonium rotaxanes, and an in-depth characterization of their photophysical properties, applying different spectroscopic techniques, including ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy is provided. While the addition of halogen atoms to some of the structures provides them the ability to efficiently produce singlet oxygen in organic solvents, such property is suppressed in water, where all the investigated compounds aggregate into spherical nanoparticles. The latter, independently of the presence of bromine, demonstrate high photothermal conversion efficiency and have been tested as photosensitizers in antibacterial photothermal therapy, highlighting the potential of self-assembled organic nanostructures based on bodipy dyes for developing new and versatile nanomaterials for photomedicine application
