A Conceptual Study on Rajyakshma through Ayurveda

    Get PDF
One of the Asthamahagadas described by Acharya Charaka and known as the "king of the disease" is Rajyakshma. Due to its multisystem involvement and syndromic expression, it has traditionally been difficult to identify and treat. Therefore, it is crucial to fully comprehend Nidana and Samprapti prior to making treatment plans. Rajayakshma has been linked to numerous immunodeficiency syndromes. However, a closer look at the symptoms reveals that it more closely resembles a multisystem respiratory disease. As well as being classified as an Aupsargika Vyadhi, the ailment also had a number of predisposing elements or Chaturvidha Nidana. Tridoshas and Sapta Dhatu are induced as a result of Nidana indulgence. In the present period, pulmonary tuberculosis can be linked to Rajyakshma, which affects the Pranavaha Srotasa. Although the pathophysiology of Rajayakshma and pulmonary tuberculosis differ, their clinical profiles are remarkably similar. Western medicine focuses primarily on infectious diseases, how they spread, various diagnostic techniques, and WHO-recommended antibiotics. The paper\u27s main goals are to fully convey the fundamental ideas of Rajayakshma\u27s Hetu and Samprapti and how they affect the Pranavaha Srotasa in relation to pulmonary tuberculosis. Rajayakshma is considered the king of all diseases. It is formed with two words: Raja (king) and Yakshma (decay), which means fraying condition of huge magnitude. The symptoms of Rajayakshma include Sahasa (extreme tension and strain), Vegasandharana (restraining natural impulses), Kshaya (decreasing Dhathu), and Vishamashana (resisting natural urges). It is a Shosha that Madhyama Rogamarga Vyadhi has manifested. The Tridosha and the Sapta Dhatu are impacted by the emergence of Ekadasha Roopa. The Nidana and the Samprapti are given a lot of attention in the classics of Ayurveda, since they are crucial to comprehending Chikitsa. Chikitsa is Nidana Parivarjana and Samprapti Vighatana; it is nothing. Rajayakshma\u27s knowledge was compiled by exhaustively searching the primary Ayurvedic literature. Rajayakshma is a rare illness, and the disease hierarchy is as described by Sahasajanaya Rajayakshma and Vega Sandarana. Janya Rajayakshma, Kshaya Janya Rajayakshma, and Vishamashana Janya Rajayakshma is one of the four categories involved in Nidana. In modern medicine, Rajyakshma may correlate with pulmonary tuberculosis. Though there is a difference in the pathogenesis of tuberculosis and Rajyakshma, the clinical picture of both is quite similar

    Get PDF
Anorthosite, a commonly occurring mineral found in lunar regolith, holds the promise of a groundbreaking dual application in the fields of cancer therapy and space medicine. In the context of lung cancer therapy, anorthosite nanoparticles were synthesized and subjected to MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay along with FTIR to assess their cytotoxic effects on H460 lung cancer cells. The results revealed that anorthosite nanoparticles exhibit a dose-dependent cytotoxic effect on H460 cells, suggesting their potential as a novel treatment modality for lung cancer with Inhibitory Concentration IC50 value at 50% to be 21.65 which simply gestures of how toxic it could be if being treated as a cancer drug via chemo/immune/radio or target cell therapies, even when merged with ayurvedic discipline. These findings warrant further investigations into the precise mechanisms of anorthosite-mediated cytotoxicity and its therapeutic potential in vivo. Moreover, anorthosite\u27s role in space medicine was explored by assessing its ability to mitigate oxidative stress, a major concern for astronauts exposed to the harsh space environment. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated during space travel can have detrimental effects on an astronaut\u27s health. Anorthosite nanoparticles were tested for their capacity to scavenge ROS in an in vitro model. The results demonstrated that anorthosite nanoparticles possess potent antioxidant properties, indicating their potential in safeguarding astronauts from oxidative stress-induced health issues during prolonged space missions. This dual-application research on anorthosite nanoparticles highlights their therapeutic potential for lung cancer treatment and their utility in protecting astronauts from oxidative stress in space

Chikitsamanjari - A Unique Encyclopedia of Keraliya Ayurveda

    Get PDF
Chikitsamanjari has been used traditionally as a handbook for clinical practice by the renowned Ayurveda physicians of Kerala. Chikitsamanjari can be considered as a true representative of the Kerala tradition of Ayurveda and plays a pivotal role in keeping the Kerala tradition of Ayurveda alive. The book can be considered as an abridged version of Brihath trayees, explaining in brief about the major diseases encompassing the six branches of Ayurveda, excluding Rasayana and Vajikarana. Based on internal and external evidences, it can be inferred that the author of the text might be one among the Ashtavaidyas. The first edition of the text was based on two manuscripts obtained from the disciples of two Aryavaidya traditional families in Kerala. A combined version with commentary, by Sri. Sreeman Namboothiri was published by Vidyarambha Publishers, Mullakkal, Alappuzha, in 1990. Chikitsamanjari Part I and II together contain 67 titles, with the first 65 titles describing different diseases and their treatments and the last two titles giving a concise note on Dharavidhi and Manavidhi respectively. Among the Birhat trayees, the book has a greater inclination towards Ashtanga Hridaya. This book contains more than 1000 drugs and formulations, including 164 single drugs. Locally available drugs have been described extensively and are mentioned in their vernacular names. Most of the formulations are simple, cheap, easily available and easy to prepare even at home like Mukkudi and Swarasa kalpana. Newly emerging diseases like Bhaktarodha, Somaroga and Asthisrava and existing conditions of growing prevalence such as Sthaulya, Karshya are explained. Much importance has been given to simple procedures like Dhara, Abhyanga, Pinda sweda and Tapa sweda rather than complex procedures like Vamana, Vasti and Sastra karma. Among Panchakarma, Virechana yogas are elaborately explained and no Yogas for vasti are explained. Urovasti is indicated as a procedure in functional conditions like Arochaka, Bhaktarodha and Chardi. Modifications of Swedana karma like Kshira bashpa, Tavidu kizhi and Tapasweda using Arkapatra and Panasapatra have been mentioned. Even though Chikitsamanjari is an authentic text that describes Kerala Ayurveda, it has got certain demerits and limitations. Truly, Chikitsamanjari is a textbook of Ayurveda, which has considered the nuance of treatment from all the angles of simplicity, availability, efficacy and cost effectiveness

Ayurvedic Management along with Hypnotherapy in Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder (Conversion Disorder)

    Get PDF
Functional neurological symptom disorder (FND)/Conversion disorder may be broadly defined as the presence of neurologic symptoms in the absence of a neurologic diagnosis, or when a neurologic diagnosis exists, it does not fully account for all of the patient’s symptoms. The cardinal symptom is limited solely to neurological symptoms. The diagnosis is made on the basis of the positive findings of the examination demonstrating preserved neurological function. Yoshapasmara, described in Madhava nidana, is comparable to FND where gathi / samvedhana (motor or sensory functions) are lost in the absence of underlying neurological conditions. A 29-year female was admitted with C/o Weakness and numbness in the left lower limb for 6 months. She had severe stress factors due to family conflicts. One day after a conflict with her mother-in-law, she felt difficulty walking on her left leg. They consulted a neurologist and done imaging, which was normal. On detailed clinical examination, the diagnosis was FND. She was managed with Internal medications and Udwartana, Abyanga, and Vyathyasa chikitsa (Dry and unctuous therapies alternatively). Hypnotherapy was administered in addition to Ayurvedic management to address stress factors. There were noticeable changes in the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), muscle strength, and could walk without assistance with some difficulty after treatment. The neuropsychiatric perspective incorporating biopsychosocial aspects at the individual level, including consideration of Psychological and Spiritual aspects wherever relevant, is crucial for better outcomes in such cases
