Biometric Correlation of the Vrana Ropana in Sushruta Samhita: An Integrating Ayurvedic Principles of Vrana Ropana with Modern Regenerative Wound Healing

    Get PDF
Wound healing is a fundamental physiological process aimed at restoring structural and functional tissue integrity. Despite advances in modern therapies, chronic and non-healing wounds continue to pose a substantial global health burden. Regenerative medicine- through stem cells, engineered biomaterials, and biological signalling- has introduced novel approaches, yet their clinical translation remains limited by costs, technical complexity, and inconsistent outcomes. Ayurveda, particularly the Shalya Tantra tradition of Sushruta, presents a structured, biology-aligned framework for wound management based on sequential Shodhana (cleansing), Ropana (tissue regeneration), and Purana/Sandhana (structural restoration). This review analyzes the biometric correlation between Sushruta’s Vrana Ropana principles and modern regenerative wound biology, proposing an integrative model that combines traditional Ayurvedic therapeutics with contemporary bioengineering. Such convergence offers pathways to develop biomimetic, cost-effective, and stage-specific wound-care strategies

    Get PDF
Aacharya Sushruta have explained the use of Kriyakalpa and another Chikitsa according to Sama and Niram avastha of Netra Roga. The concept of Ama is the most important fundamental principle of Ayurveda in understanding the physiopathology of the diseases. Aamvichar has its unique significance in the Nidan and Chikitsa of disease. Sama avastha in Netraroga includes Udirna Vedana (acute pain), Rag (redness), Shotha (swelling), Nistoda (pricking sensation) etc. Whereas Nirama Netraroga lakshana include Kandu (itching), Mandvedana, Prasanna Varnata etc. Aqueous tear deficit, immune cell infiltration into the corneal stroma, loss of goblet cells in the conjunctiva, and increased cytokine levels in the tears and aqueous humour are among the changes that current research says occur in chronic inflammation of the eyes. Seka, Bidalaka and Ashchyotana are the procedures performed in Aama avastha of the disease which are advised in inflammatory process of eyes, whereas Tarpana, Putapaka and Anjana are performed in Niram Avastha of the disease and has the ability to reach the posterior segment of eye. These topical treatments have transcorneal permeation and has ability to act by both lipophilic and hydrophilic pathway. It acts by decreasing Kapha in Netra Roga thereby decreasing symptoms of Netra Roga

Amavata is one among Rasapradoshaja vikara where Dushitha ama combines with Prakupita vata and later takes Sthana samshraya in Koshta, Trika and Sandhi pradesha leading to Gaatra stabdata and Sandhi vedana. The treatment modalities are based on Ama harana and Vata shamana principles. The pathogenesis and symptomology of Amavata resembles the disease Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder characterized by morning stiffness, swelling, pain, tenderness, and restricted movements. This condition can lead to severe consequences, including joint damage, physical disability, and hematologic abnormalities, ultimately impacting quality of life. Methodology: In the present time due to a sedentary lifestyle and stress, the incidence of Ama-related diseases is increasing. Amavata is one of the most common diseases. There is an incidence of 20-40 new cases per lakh population annually in India. Present case- A 50-year-old female patient presented with complaints of morning stiffness, associated with restricted movements, swelling, and pain in bilateral metacarpophalangeal joints, metatarsophalangeal joints, and bilateral elbow joint. She was diagnosed as a case of Amavata based on signs and symptoms along with investigations showing increased levels of inflammatory markers. The patient underwent a 45-day course of Shamana aushadhi. Later on, she was administered with Panchakarma therapies like Kshara basthi, Jambeera pinda sweda, Dhanyamladhara, etc, on an admission basis for 10 days along with Shamana aushadhi. Result: After therapies and medicines symptomatic improvement along with a substantial reduction in the levels of inflammatory markers was noted. Discussion: The treatment protocol including Shodhana and Shamana was adopted based on the Chikitsa of Amavata to avoid further progression of the disease

    Get PDF
Fibromyalgia is characterized by persistent, widespread musculoskeletal pain, exhaustion, cognitive disruption, mental disorders, and a variety of somatic symptoms. Fibromyalgia affects more women than men, with a frequency of 2.8% in India. It has a possible Ayurvedic correlation with Gat Vata (Mamsagat Vata). A female patient comes to OPD with complaints of pain at the bilateral thigh region and at the bilateral forearm (myalgia) (VAS-07), pain at the origin of the supraspinatus muscle bilaterally (VAS-04) and the upper quadrant of the buttocks bilaterally (VAS-04), pain at the bilateral calf region (VAS-07), and pain at the bilateral scapular region (VAS-07) with morning stiffness (up to 30 min.) all over the body. Due to the above complaints, she had difficulty doing day-to-day work, along with a disturbed sleeping pattern (4-5 hrs.) and stress from her job. No history of DM, HTN, or IHD. The Chikitsa Siddhant of Mamsagat Vata is Virechana, Niruha Basti. Followed by Shaman Chikitsa, by considering Chikitsa Siddhant, the patient was managed with Deepan, Pachana, followed by Koshtashodhana, Niruha Basti, and Shaman Chikitsa like Dashmool Kashaya, Yogaraj Guggulu, and a combination of Ashwagandha Churna, Chopchini Churna, Pipalimool Churna, Navajeevan Ras, and Mamsyadi Kwath. It shows a significant reduction in pain at the above-mentioned site and an improvement in the quality of life of the patient, which is assessed by the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire before treatment (score: 39/100) and after the treatment (score: 25.5/100). This case study demonstrated the effectiveness of Ayurvedic intervention in the treatment of fibromyalgia

Darunaka is a one out of 9 Kapalagata roga affecting the Shiro twaka (scalp) and Kesha (hair). According to Acharya Sushruta, the disease is a Kshudra roga because it is caused by the vitiation of the Vata and Kapha Doshas. The signs and symptoms include Twak sphutana (scratching or breaking of the scalp skin), Rukshata (roughness or dryness of the scalp), Swapa (abnormalities of touch sensation on the scalp), and Kandu (itchiness on the scalp). Darunaka can be compared with dandruff in contemporary science. The disease is mainly concerned with hair root and it is commonly encountered in a clinical practice. It is significantly more common in men and may commence at any time after puberty. Maintenance of proper hygiene is the most important thing in this disease. Otherwise, the chances of recurrence are more. There is at present no viable therapy for this bothersome condition in dermatological practice. As a result, a lot of patients feel hopeful about Ayurveda. We can provide good results in this situation with Ayurvedic medicines. Case Report: A 18 year old female patient from Vadodara came to OPD of Shalakya Tantra, SAMCH, Vadodara with chief complaint of Shirotwaka Sphutanam or Keshabhumi Prapatana (cracking of the scalp skin with fine flakes), Shirah Kandu (itching on scalp), Rukshata (dryness on scalp), Keshachyuti (hair fall) diagnosed with Darunaka was treated with Ayurved Chikitsa. At the same time, the combined benefits of Sthanika Chikitsa and Shamana Aushadhis were advocated. Assessments: The therapy\u27s efficacy was evaluated by comparing signs and symptoms before and after treatment. A unique scoring pattern was created to examine signs and symptoms. Conclusion: The medicine was shown to be both safe and effective in treating signs and symptoms while also enhancing general scalp health

    Get PDF
Hydrosalpinx is a prominent cause of female infertility, frequently leading to tubal damage and occlusion. Standard modern interventions, such as prolonged antibiotics or surgical salpingectomy, carry limitations- either failing to resolve the condition or resulting in permanent loss of reproductive potential. This case report highlights the successful management of right-sided hydrosalpinx through an Ayurvedic approach in a 28-year-old female with primary infertility. Despite receiving conventional treatment, the patient showed no clinical or radiological improvement. Ultrasonography revealed a right fallopian tube dilated to 17.9mm, consistent with hydrosalpinx. Based on Ayurvedic assessment, the condition was understood as Kshetraja Vikriti caused by Kapha-Pitta Dushti, with localized Strotorodha in the reproductive tract. The treatment protocol included internal administration of Arogyavardhini Vati, Chandraprabha Vati, Triphala Guggulu, and Erand Bhrishta Haritaki, combined with intravaginal application of Yonivarti followed by Yoni Prakshalana. After three months, follow-up ultrasonography confirmed complete resolution of hydrosalpinx, with significant symptomatic improvement and no adverse effects. This outcome suggests that Yonivarti, offer a promising non-surgical alternative for managing tubal factor infertility
