Optimal control of a coupled partial and ordinary differential equations system for the assimilation of polarimetry Stokes vector measurements in tokamak free-boundary equilibrium reconstruction with application to ITER
International audienceThe modelization of polarimetry Faraday rotation measurements commonly used in tokamak plasma equilibrium reconstruction codes is an approximation to the Stokes model. This approximation is not valid for the foreseen ITER scenarios where high current and electron density plasma regimes are expected. In this work a method enabling the consistent resolution of the inverse equilibrium reconstruction problem in the framework of non-linear free-boundary equilibrium coupled to the Stokes model equation for polarimetry is provided. Using optimal control theory we derive the optimality system for this inverse problem. A sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method is proposed for its numerical resolution. Numerical experiments with noisy synthetic measurements in the ITER tokamak configuration for two test cases, the second of which is an H-mode plasma, show that the method is efficient and that the accuracy of the identification of the unknown profile functions is improved compared to the use of classical Faraday measurements
Hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin method for the two-dimensional frequency-domain elastic wave equations
International audienceDiscontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods are nowadays actively studied and increasingly exploited for the simulation of large-scale time-domain (i.e. unsteady) seismic wave propagation problems. Although theoretically applicable to frequency-domain problems as well, their use in this context has been hampered by the potentially large number of coupled unknowns they incur, especially in the three-dimensional case, as compared to classical continuous finite element methods. In this paper, we address this issue in the framework of so-called hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin (HDG) formulations. As a first step, we study a HDG method for the resolution of the frequency-domain elastic wave equations in the two-dimensional case. We describe the weak formulation of the method and provide some implementation details. The proposed HDG method is assessed numerically including a comparison with a classical upwind flux-based DG method, showing better overall computational efficiency as a result of the drastic reduction of the number of globally coupled unknowns in the resulting discrete HDG system
Enumerating Orthogonal Latin Squares Generated by Bipermutive Cellular Automata
Part 2: Regular PapersInternational audienceWe consider the problem of enumerating pairs of bipermutive cellular automata (CA) which generate orthogonal Latin squares. Since the problem has already been settled for bipermutive CA with linear local rules, we address the general case of nonlinear rules, which could be interesting for cryptographic applications such as the design of cheater-immune secret sharing schemes. We first prove that two bipermutive CA generating orthogonal Latin squares must have pairwise balanced local rules. Then, we count the number of pairwise balanced bipermutive Boolean functions and enumerate those which generate orthogonal Latin squares up to variables, classifying them with respect to their nonlinearity values

Constraint Identification Using Modified Hoare Logic on Hybrid Models of Gene Networks
International audienceWe present a new hybrid Hoare logic dedicated for a class of linear hybrid automata well suited to model gene regulatory networks. These automata rely on Thomas' discrete framework in which qualitative parameters have been replaced by continuous parameters called celerities. The identification of these parameters remains one of the keypoints of the modelling process, and is difficult especially because the modelling framework is based on a continuous time. We introduce Hoare triples which handle biological traces and pre/post-conditions. Observed chronometrical biological traces play the role of an imperative program for classical Hoare logic and our hybrid Hoare logic, defined by inference rules, is proved to be sound. Furthermore, we present a weakest precondition calculus (a la Dijkstra) which leads to constraints on dynamical parameters. Finally, we illustrate our " constraints generator " with a simplified circadian clock model describing the rhythmicity of cells in mammals on a 24-hour period
FV-MHMM method for reservoir modeling
International audienceThe present paper proposes a new family of multiscale finite volume methods. These methods usually deal with a dual mesh resolution, where the pressure field is solved on a coarse mesh, while the saturation fields, which may have discontinuities, are solved on a finer reservoir grid, on which petrophysical heterogeneities are defined. Unfortunately, the efficiency of dual mesh methods is strongly related to the definition of up-gridding and down-gridding steps, allowing defining accurately pressure and saturation fields on both fine and coarse meshes and the ability of the approach to be parallelized. In the new dual mesh formulation we developed, the pressure is solved on a coarse grid using a new hybrid formulation of the parabolic problem. This type of multiscale method for pressure equation called multiscale hybrid-mixed method (MHMM) has been recently proposed for finite elements and mixed-finite element approach (Harder et al. 2013). We extend here the MH-mixed method to a finite volume discretization, in order to deal with large multiphase reservoir models. The pressure solution is obtained by solving a hybrid form of the pressure problem on the coarse mesh, for which unknowns are fluxes defined on the coarse mesh faces. Basis flux functions are defined through the resolution of a local finite volume problem, which accounts for local heterogeneity, whereas pressure continuity between cells is weakly imposed through flux basis functions, regarded as Lagrange multipliers. Such an approach is conservative both on the coarse and local scales and can be easily parallelized, which is an advantage compared to other existing finite volume multiscale approaches. It has also a high flexibility to refine the coarse discretization just by refinement of the lagrange multiplier space defined on the coarse faces without changing nor the coarse nor the fine meshes. This refinement can also be done adaptively w.r.t. a posteriori error estimators. The method is applied to single phase (well-testing) and multiphase flow in heterogeneous porous medi
