Concept of Urastha Hridaya (Heart) According to Ayurveda

Hridaya (heart) is considered as one of the vital organ of the body by Ayurveda. Since it is one among the Trimarams and is regarded as Dasha prana ayatana, any injury to the Hridaya results in causation of grave diseases, severe complications or and even death. A vigilant study reveals that, two organs share approximately equal claims to put themselves identical with the term Hridaya which denotes an organ controlling the passage of Prana by collecting, distributing in a rhythm. At one end is the notion that Hridaya refers to brain, at the other end of the scale, it is the view that Hridaya is heart. As per Ayurvedic text, Hridaya is not only an organ that pumps blood, but also something with much wide area of action. Ayurvedic classic mentions that Hridaya is that which controls body, mind and senses, in addition is a seat of the intellect and vitality. Therefore it is essential to understand this organ thoroughly; however, Acharya Charak and Acharya Sushruta considered Hridaya as one among the Kosthangas and one among Kosthas respectively. These descriptions certainly indicate Hridaya as the ‘Urastha hridaya’. The present review article draws attention towards the concept of Urastha hridaya i.e., heart considered in Ayurveda

Three new UV spectrophotometric methods namely simultaneous equation, absorbance ratio and dual wavelength methods were developed and validated for simultaneous estimation of Metformin and Teneligliptin in bulk drug and tablet formulation which were simple, rapid, sensitive, precise and accurate. In simultaneous equation method, absorbance was measured at 233nm for Metformin and 241nm for Teneligliptin. In absorbance ratio method, absorbance was measured at 244nm for Metformin and 233nm for Teneligliptin. In dual wavelength method, two wavelengths were selected for each drug, the absorbances was measured at 225 and 251nm for Metformin and 240 and 221nm for Teneligliptin. Developed methods were validated according to ICH guidelines including parameters viz., specificity, linearity and range, precision, accuracy, limit of detection and limit of quantification. All the three methods showed linear response in the concentration range of 2-10µg/mL for Metformin and 0.5-2.5µg/mL for Teneligliptin with a low correlation coefficient. Results of method validation parameters follows ICH guideline acceptable limits. Methods were found to be simple, rapid, sensitive, economical and hence can be useful for simultaneous estimation of Metformin and Teneligliptin in pure drug and commercial tablet formulation for routine quality control analysis

The healthcare system in India and Nepal has various indigenous systems like Ayurveda, Yoga, naturopathy, Siddha, Unani, and Homeopathy, which are widely accepted and practiced parallel to allopathy. In both countries, a large section of the population belonging to different strata of society practices these traditional medicine systems to improve their health. Being an ancient holistic system of medicine, Ayurveda deals with each individual and at the community level in its entirety. The social impact of ill health is increasing, with some diseases affecting the health of individuals and that of a nation\u27s economy with their increasing healthcare costs. The Ayurvedic system of medicine has its advantages: it also fulfills the social health demands. One of the most vital and unique aspects of Ayurvedic medicine is Swastavritta, or health promotion. Ayurveda emphasizes two points, i.e., how to keep a healthy person healthy & how to prevent the patient\u27s illness, and public health also has similar objectives to prevent diseases, cure diseases, and longevity by improving the quality of life of the individuals. Many theories related to public health, such as infectious diseases, immunity, nutrition, etc., have been described in the classical texts of Ayurveda. Various texts associated with Ayurveda, relevant modern medical science books, research/review articles, and websites have been used as source materials for this study. The aim of Ayurveda and Public Health is mainly the same. In this growing world, most diseases are related to daily lifestyle, and these diseases can be prevented by following the principles of Ayurveda, and if anyone suffers from an illness, then Ayurveda will also help get rid of these diseases. Ayurveda has the potential to improve the worsening global health status, and it also would be one of the best options to promote public health

Background: Because of the unfavorable side effects and higher cost of synthetic anti-diabetic medicines, an alternative approach to manage diabetes mellitus from an herbal source would be safe and within the affordability of the common people. Hence we investigated the hypoglycemic and pancreatic islets restoration effect of Syzygium cumini seed extract using glibenclamide as positive control. Methods: Six (06) normal control mice and eighteen (18) alloxan induced diabetic mice grouped as diabetic control, Syzygium cumini and standard drug, were used for this experiment. In comparison to a reference drug-glibenclamide (@600μg/kg body weight), Syzygium cumini seed ethanolic extract (@500mg/kg body weight) was given orally once daily for thirty days to counteract alloxan induced alteration in blood glucose level and pancreatic cells morphology. Fasting blood glucose (FBG) level was evaluated at 15 days intervals, whereas mice were ethically sacrificed to collect pancreas at the completion of the experiment and processed for histological examination. Results: Research results revealed that in both the Syzygium cumini and standard drug treated groups, FBG level were significantly lower than the diabetic control group (P < 0.05). Histologically, smaller islets and necrosis, present in the pancreas of diabetic mice were returned to normal following treatment with Syzygium cumini seed extract and standard anti-diabetic drug. Conclusion: Syzygium cumini seed extract could be recommended as anti-diabetic for humans and animals especially in developing and under developed countries where this plant is readily available and affordable
