The community of Ngrogung Hamlet, Ngebel Village, possesses rich cultural and religious traditions, one of which is reflected in the practice of hadroh. However, this art form remains limited to the internal circle of youth and has yet to grow as a medium of da’wah and community empowerment. This condition highlights the need for optimization strategies so that hadroh not only serves as religious entertainment but also as a platform for strengthening spirituality, fostering social cohesion, and preserving local cultural identity. This community service aims to empower local residents through hadroh by engaging youth, religious leaders, and the wider community, thereby fostering collective ownership and enhancing the confidence of hadroh groups. The method applied is Asset Based Community Development (ABCD), which includes appreciative inquiry, community mapping, priority setting, individual asset mapping, and local financial circulation analysis. Through this approach, the community’s social, cultural, and economic assets can be identified and optimized. The results show that hadroh is not merely a routine art activity but also functions as a medium of da’wah, religious entertainment, and a cultural identity marker of the Ponorogo community

The Community Service Program (Kuliah Pengabdian Masyarakat/KPM) is one of the manifestations of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, emphasizing community engagement and service. This article aims to describe the strategies employed by KPM students to overcome the challenges of Qur’an learning among children in Sempu Village, Ngebel Subdistrict, Ponorogo Regency. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a participatory model. Data were collected through observation, interviews with local Qur’an teachers, and documentation during the program. The subjects were eight children, consisting of two who were already reading the Qur’an and six who were still at the Iqra stage. The findings reveal significant improvements in children’s Qur’anic learning. First, their mastery of tajwid improved, particularly in applying rules of elongation and specific recitation laws. Second, the clarity of makhraj al-huruf (points of articulation) increased after intensive talaqqi practice. Third, children’s ability to write Arabic letters became neater and more accurate through step-by-step exercises. Fourth, children showed greater enthusiasm for learning, supported by stronger parental involvement. Furthermore, interviews with the Qur’an teacher highlighted limitations in time and energy for providing intensive guidance, yet acknowledged that the presence of KPM students was very helpful as motivators and technical assistants. The teacher also expressed the need for continuity after the program ends. In conclusion, the strategies of learning by doing and talaqqi were effective in improving Qur’anic learning among children in Sempu Village. The success of the program was supported by the dual role of KPM students as facilitators and motivators, and by collaborative efforts among students, teachers, and parents. This research applies the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, which links research activities with processes of social change. The data were collected through field visits, interviews, observations, and analytical procedures

Politik Modern Turki: Sekularisme, Islamisme, dan Perbandingan Atatürk dan Erdoğan: Modern Turkish Politics: Secularism, Islamism, and a Comparison of Atatürk and Erdoğan

    Get PDF
This article examines the historical and political dynamics between secularism and Islamism in the context of modern Turkey, with a focus on two central figures: Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Atatürk, as the founder of the Republic of Turkey, established the foundations of the state based on principles of secularism and Western modernism, including the abolition of the Caliphate and reforms in law, education, and public symbols. In contrast, Erdoğan and the Justice and Development Party (AKP) have integrated Islam into national identity through policy reforms, education, and historical discourse. Drawing on perspectives from the politics of religion and political sociology, and employing conceptual frameworks such as Public Religion and Political Islam, this article adopts a qualitative research approach based on library research and Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis to trace the relationship between discourse, power, and the construction of national identity, as well as the ideological dynamics between secular and religious groups in Turkey’s contemporary public sphere. The findings indicate that despite their differing approaches to religion, both Atatürk and Erdoğan employed centralized and symbolic forms of power to shape national narratives. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of state–religion relations in the politics of the modern Muslim world, offering a critical reflection on the future of democracy, pluralism, and religious freedom in Turkey

Cultural Da‘wah and Public Policy in Urban Prostitution Management: A Case Study of the Closure of Dolly in Surabaya

    Get PDF
This study examines a new model for addressing urban prostitution through a collaborative framework that integrates cultural da'wah and public policy, using the closure of Dolly District as a case study. Employing a descriptive qualitative method based on literature analysis and policy documents, the research traces patterns of interaction between culturally grounded religious approaches and governmental interventions. The findings suggest that cultural da'wah plays a significant role in shaping the community's moral awareness, while public policy facilitates the necessary structural changes. Their collaboration generates a more effective mechanism of social transformation compared with administrative closure alone. The study concludes that the synergy between cultural da'wah and public policy offers a new paradigm for tackling prostitution: one that goes beyond shutting down localisation sites by fostering a humane and sustainable social transition. This model has the potential to be replicated in similar urban contexts

Local Government Communication Strategy in Resolving Religious Building Conflicts in Aceh

    Get PDF
Conflicts over the establishment of houses of worship in Indonesia continue to recur despite the government having established regulations such as PBM 2006 and Law No. 7/2012. This shows a gap between the legal framework and the government's communication capabilities in managing interfaith relations. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of conflicts over the establishment of houses of worship in Aceh Singkil and assess the effectiveness of government communication strategies within the framework of conflict communication theory and Islamic communication principles. The research method employs a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing in-depth interviews with local government officials, religious leaders, and community leaders, as well as an analysis of regulatory documents. The findings show that the conflict in Aceh Singkil is administrative in nature and rooted in the mismatch between regulatory requirements and the actual needs of the community. The government's communication strategy is multidimensional, combining regulation, interfaith dialogue, and persuasive da'wah principles; however, it does not yet fully involve traditional actors who hold high social legitimacy. As a result, government communication has been effective in reducing short-term tensions but has not been able to produce long-term solutions. This study emphasizes the importance of a holistic and collaborative communication approach that involves traditional stakeholders as a sustainable strategy in religious conflict resolution
