This manuscript presents the work carried out during my thesis on some properties of semisimple Lie groups. The manuscript is divided into two independent parts. In the first part, we study the regularity of K-finite coefficients of unitary representations of a Lie group G for various pairs (G,K). The main question we aim to answer is the following: what is the largest alpha >= 0 for which any such coefficient is locally alpha-Hölder continuous ? Although there seems to be no reason for alpha to be anything other than 0, Lafforgue observed in his work on strong property (T) that for the pair (SO(3),SO(2)), the answer is at least 1/2. In the first chapter, we explain how to reduce the question to one of harmonic analysis on the spherical functions of Gelfand pairs. The second chapter deals with pairs (G,K) where G is compact and G/K is a symmetric space of compact type. We give a complete answer when G=KxK or G/K is of rank 1. We also conjecture what happens in higher rank. In the third chapter, we consider non-compact groups: we study the pairs (G,K) where G is a semisimple Lie group with finite center and K a maximal compact subgroup, as well as (H,K) where H is the Cartan motion group associated to G. The last chapter of this part comes back to the compact case: we give a partial answer to our conjecture using techniques of stationary phase developed in the previous chapter. The second part is devoted to the study of property (TTT), which is a strengthening of property (T) introduced by Ozawa. A measurable locally bounded map b from G to a Hilbert space is a wq-cocycle if there exists a measurable map p:G->U(H) such that the defect b(gh)-b(g)-p(g)b(h) is bounded on GxG. A group G has property (TTT) if every wq-cocycle is bounded. This is a vast generalization of the fixed-point property for affine isometric actions on Hilbert spaces. Property (TTT) for a group G implies strong rigidity statements for quasi-homomorphisms G->G'. For example, when G' is hyperbolic, the image of such a (continuous) quasi-homomorphism is relatively compact. In the fifth chapter, we prove that lattices inherit this property and that lattices in higher rank simple algebraic groups over local fields have property (TTT), which was known only in the case of SLn. In the final chapter, we introduce property (FFF_E), which is defined as boundedness of wq-cocycles with a Banach space E replacing the Hilbert space as the target space. We also define a slightly weaker property, property (T_{Q,E}), which deals with almost invariant vectors. Under some integrability conditions, we also prove that lattices inherit these properties. Finally, we study these properties in the case of super-reflexive Banach space. We consider in particular the class [H] of Banach spaces with a compatible Hilbert norm, in the case of higher rank simple algebraic groups over a local field.

LevelWAN: a cost-effective, open-source IoT system for water level monitoring in highly dynamic aquatic environments
International audienceThe deployment of low-cost network sensors (LCNS) for environmental monitoring has become increasingly prevalent in recent years, offering a cost-effective solution for enhancing spatial sensor coverage while minimizing financial constraints. This study presents LevelWAN, a water level monitoring system specifically designed for highly dynamic aquatic environments such as rivers, ponds or lakes. LevelWAN is an open-source, robust, and cost-effective Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring solution incorporating an ultrasonic sensor. The electronic components were carefully selected for their affordability, reliability, and performance. The system underwent a fully autonomous, long-term (3-year) field test in a challenging and highly dynamic environment – a sewer system – to validate its robustness. Its accuracy was assessed against a high-precision professional device, demonstrating an error margin of less than 1 cm. Additionally,LevelWAN was developed with a user-friendly design to facilitate accessibility for non-experts, aligning with the needs of citizen science initiatives and educational applications
Learning dynamics in ultrafast laser self-organization
International audienceWe demonstrate that ultrafast laser irradiation dynamically reshapes metallic surfaces through a cumulative, self-adaptive process that exhibits learning-like dynamics. Each laser pulse modifies the surface morphology, and the resulting structures progressively optimize energy absorption through feedback-driven reorganization. These imprints encode not only local polarization effects but also a cooperative evolution strategy, where morphological complexity increases over time to accommodate optical constraints. This behavior emerges from the interaction between thermoconvective instabilities, near-field electromagnetic effects, and dissipative self-organization in the transient molten phase [1]. By combining experimental analysis with thermodynamic modeling and a neural solver trained to predict optical responses via Maxwell’s equations, we uncover how surface patterns evolve toward configurations that enhance light-matter coupling. The evolving surface complexity [2] reflects an intrinsic form of material adaptation, where local responses are shaped by global feedback. This framework connects ultrafast non-equilibrium physics with learning dynamics in physical systems, providing new insight into controlled energy deposition and the design of functional photonic surfaces. These results open routes for tunable absorption and the broader understanding of self-organized complexity in far-from equilibrium matter.References1. A. Nakhoul, & J.P. Diagnostic Utility of Kappa Free Light Chain Index in Adults With Inaugural Optic Neuritis
International audienceBackground and ObjectivesA simple, quick, and reproducible procedure for distinguishing multiple sclerosis (MS), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD), and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) at inaugural optic neuritis (ION) could be highly valuable in guiding early management. MethodsWe included all adults admitted to the MS center of Marseille for ION between March 2016 and April 2024, with CSF analysis including the kappa free light chain (K-FLC) index. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to measure the diagnostic ability of the K-FLC index. ResultsTwo hundred twenty-seven adults were admitted for ION; 210 (93%) had a K-FLC index measurement. MS was diagnosed in 84 (40%); clinically isolated syndrome suggestive of MS in 77 (36.5%), including 20 with future conversion to MS (CISwc); MOGAD in 26 (12.5%); NMOSD in 13 (6%); and other inflammatory disorders in 10 (5%). A K-FLC index ≥6.7 differentiated MS/ CISwc from other diagnoses with specificity 86% and sensitivity 95% (area under the curve [AUC] 0.94). A K-FLC index <4.9 differentiated MOGAD from other diagnoses with specificity 63% and sensitivity 92% (AUC 0.78) and MOGAD from MS/CISwc with specificity 96% and sensitivity 92% (AUC 0.97). Among all patients, 93 (44%) had a K-FLC index <4.9: 24 of these (26%) had MOGAD and 5 (5.5%) MS/CISwc. Among the remaining patients with a K-FLC index ≥4.9 (n = 117), 2 (1.7%) had MOGAD (K-FLC index of 7.9 and 16.2) and 99 (85%) MS/CISwc. Among patients with normal MRI (n = 96), 73 (76%) had a K-FLC index <4.9: 22 of these (30%) had MOGAD, and none showed conversion to MS. Among the remaining patients with a K-FLC index ≥4.9 (n = 23), 2 (8.5%) had MOGAD and 7 (30.5%) showed conversion to MS. The K-FLC index did not differentiate NMOSD from other diagnoses and only moderately differentiated NMO from MS/CISwc (AUC 0.80). DiscussionThe K-FLC index is an accessible biomarker to guide early diagnosis in patients with ION. The probability of MOGAD in patients with ION and a K-FLC index ≥4.9 is low even in case of normal brain/spinal cord MRI. Classification of EvidenceThis study provides Class II evidence that for patients with ION, the K-FLC index can distinguish between MS/CISwc and MOGAD.</div
