Surface Roughness Analysis of Cotton Fabric by Laser Speckle Technique
In the textile industry, disposing the waste products after dyeing causes a major environmental issue. The mordants used leads to adverse effect for the human and other living organisms. Plasma processing is ecofriendly and it does not produce any waste, pollution free on the environment. Therefore, low temperature plasma treatments are set to make a revolution in textile industry. The present work is to modify the surface of cotton fabric by oxygen plasma treatment with operating parameters such as exposure time, discharge potential and base pressure are kept constant as 5 min, 400V and 9 Pascal respectively. The surface roughness of the fabric is analyzed by laser speckle technique for plasma treated and mordanted fabric and then corresponding results were reported. Further, we observed the increase in surface roughness of the fabric after plasma treatment
A Preliminary Study on Microplastic Occurrences in Surface Waters of Ousudu Lake, Pondicherry, India.
Microplastics (MP) in both freshwater and marine ecosystem is the next issue that has been recently the fore. However, freshwaters are the potential source and pathway to transport MPs to the marine environment. There is a lack of understanding about the presence and analysis of MP in the freshwater system in India, one of the leading global plastic producers and consumers responsible for 5.6 million tonnes of waste every year. The present attempt is the first in Ousudu Lake, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, to study the MPs occurrence and examine its properties in the surface water of the largest lake and an important wetland. The concentration range of MP in Ousudu Lake was 0.0039 particles/m2. Fibre was dominant, homogenous with the size fraction of ≤100µm comprised of total MPs collected in Lake. Raman spectroscopy identified plastics with polyethylene as a homogenous component. This study indicated that the presence of MP in water might influence the environment

The NTPs, can deliver high electron temperatures and high densities of radicals at near ambient conditions making it a unique source for applications ranging from treatment of extremely heat sensitive surfaces to complex chemical reactions which are feasible only at low temperatures. This work presents some of the recent understandings on how various NTP reactors can be designed and characterized for various applications. The results obtained from a pin-to-water plasma discharge system, in generating plasma activated water for agricultural applications are discussed. The application of NTPs in hydrocarbon reforming to obtain a tar-free gas from a waste to energy thermo-chemical process is discussed. The results of selective killing of cancer cells using a DBD is presented. Also, application of NTPs in wastewater treatment systems to treat household chemical products are presented
Influence of Transferred Arc Plasma Melting Time on the Formation of Phase and Microstructure of Mullite-Zirconia Composite
Transferred arc plasma is an effective and simple technique to synthesis a high temperature reaction ceramic composite material. In this paper, 20 kW transferred arc plasma torch was used to synthesis mullite-zirconia composites through the solid-state reaction of 3:2 mole ratio of ball milled alumina and zircon powders. Dissociation of zircon in a thermal plasma arc is utilized as to prepare mullite-zirconia composites. The ball milled samples are melted for 3, 6, 9 and 12 minutes in transferred arc plasma torch at 20 kW power level with 10 lpm of argon flow rate and cooled by air. The phase and microstructure of melted samples were determined from X-ray diffraction (XRD) and SEM images. The obtained results shows that the processing time significantly influence on the formation of phase and microstructure of the mullite- zirconia composite
Irrigation Water Quality Assessment Using Water Quality Index and GIS Technique in Pondicherry Region, South India
The utility of groundwater, irrespective of its availability, is essential for mankind. The efficacy of the coastal aquifer’s groundwater quality for agriculture purpose in the Pondicherry region was gauged by their hydrochemistry. 44 groundwater samples were collected during 4 different seasons namely, pre-monsoon (PRM), southwest monsoon (SWM), northeast monsoon (NEM) and post-monsoon (POM). The samples were measured for physico-chemical parameters like pH, EC, TDS, Na, K, Ca, Mg, Cl, HCO3, PO4, SO4 and NO3. The spatio temporal variations of EC indicates that the coastal groundwater were relatively saline except during PRM. The suitability of groundwater for irrigation is evaluated through various water quality parametrs such as Electrical Conductivity (EC), pH, Na%, sodium absorption ratio (SAR), residual sodium carbonate (RSC) and permeability index (PI). Na%, SAR, PI and EC values were spatially interporlated and integrated to determine the regions suitable for irrigation purpose. The study infers that the groundwater of the study area is suitable for irrigation except few samples’ locations along the western part, as they have attained an alarming stage and they are unsuitable for irrigation. Thus, proper management strategy for irrigation water source has to be developed and a preventive management practice to address this issue has to be implemented
Design of Low Power and Area Efficient 8 Bit USR Using mGDI Technology
Technology is growing at a faster rate after the evolution of VLSI, which mainly focuses on three major criteria-speed, area and power. All these criteria determine the compactness of a product in order to produce an efficient output at a higher rate by consuming less power. To achieve the above-mentioned factors, an efficient 8-bit Universal Shift Register (USR) has been designed using modified Gate Diffusion Input (mGDI) technique. The results have been simulated using the TANNER EDA tool and found to contribute for low power and area

This proposed method gives significant result on proposed dataset and the crowd congestion using Faster R-CNN approach which gives an accuracy of 93.503% at the rate 28 frames per second and the crowd detected video frames are uploaded to cloud storage
Experimental Investigation of Lightweight Wall Panel Using Cenosphere Incorporated with Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag
The secondary form of waste is the major outcome of the various industries. Likewise, Cenosphere and Ground Granulateds Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) are the waste material obtained from thermal power plants and the steel industry. This waste requires a large land area for disposal. In such cases, these can be used in the construction field. This paper investigated the lightweight wall panel made with cenosphere and GGBS as a replacement for cementitious material. Cenosphere was replaced at 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 30% respectively by weight of cement and GGBS was at 15% constant replacement of cement. The properties of wall panels such as compressive strength, flexural strength, and water absorption have been studied. The flexural behavior was carried out by inhibition of fiber into the matrix. The samples were tested at 7, 14, and 28 days respectively. The SEM analysis of the cenosphere has been carried out. The results infer an increase in the percentage of cenosphere does not impart strength to the mix. Therefore, 15% of constant replacement of GGBS to the mass of cement stabilize the strength which was lost due to the addition of the cenosphere. On an overall view, it was recommended that the strength loss of mixture due to the addition of the cenosphere can be alleviated by GGBS and nevertheless a secure value of strength can be gained
Drivers' Real-Time Drowsiness Identification Using Facial Features and Automatic Vehicle Speed Control
The road crash is one of the significant problems that is of great concern in today's world. Road accidents are often caused by drivers' carelessness and negligence. The drowsy condition of the drivers, which occurs due to overwork, fatigue, and many other factors, is one of those causes. It is therefore most critical to establish systems that can detect the driver's drowsy state and provide the drivers with the appropriate warning system. In addition to the automatic speed control of the car, this system thus supports drivers in incidents by providing warnings in advance. This means that road collisions that are harmful to living lives are minimised. This is achieved by using the technique of image recognition, where driver drowsiness is observed, and using this method, simultaneous warning and speed monitoring of the vehicle is carried out
Improvement in Millet Soaking by Way of Bubbled Cold Plasma Processed Air Exposure; Phytic Acid Reduction Cum Nutrient Analysis Concern
Pearl millet is one of the high-grown and underutilized grain crops. It is confined to traditional foods due to its anti-nutritional and functional properties. The present study investigated the influence of plasma processed air bubbling and soaking on phytic acid content, total and HCl extractable iron, physicochemical, techno-functional, and pasting properties of pearl millet. Exposure of pearl millet to plasma processed air bubbling at 180 V with an airflow rate of 10 liters /h for 1 h and 2 h reduced phytic acid content by 60.66 % and 39.27 % respectively. Whereas soaking for 12 h reduced phytic acid by 21.6 % in contrast with the untreated sample. The total iron content reduced from 39.9 to 29.8 mg/100g and HCl extractable iron content increased from 12 % to 69.49 % with the given treatments. Obtained data were noticed with significant changes (p < 0.05) and are in line with its exposure to the selected variable treatments. This work points to the potentiality of plasma processed air pre-treatment in the food industry to improve nutrition and mineral availability accompanied by modifying pasting, techno-functional properties of pearl millet
