Academic Help-Seeking and EFL Anxiety: A Correlational Study

    Get PDF
This study investigates the correlation between academic help-seeking behavior and foreign language anxiety (FLA) among Indonesian EFL learners enrolled in Foreign Language for Specific Purposes (FLSP) classes. Using a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 90 undergraduate students across four faculties through two validated instruments: the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) and the Academic Help-Seeking Scale. Pearson’s correlation revealed a significant negative relationship between academic help-seeking and FLA (r = –0.445, p < 0.05), indicating learners who actively seek academic assistance experience lower levels of anxiety, particularly regarding fear of negative evaluation—the most dominant FLA dimension. These findings highlight academic help-seeking as a self-regulated learning strategy that mitigates affective barriers and enhances emotional resilience in language learning. Nonetheless, the study’s cross-sectional design and limited sample size restrict generalizability. Future longitudinal and mixed-method studies are recommended to confirm causality and extend applicability across diverse educational context. Pedagogically, fostering supportive and collaborative classroom environments may encourage adaptive help-seeking and reduce anxiety, promoting greater learner autonomy and success in foreign language acquisition

Difficulty learning mathematics is a crucial issue in global education, influencing cognitive development and student achievement. This study aims to map global research trends on difficulty learning mathematics and cognitive factors using a bibliometric approach. A total of 215 initial documents were identified from the Scopus database for the 2016–2025 period, which were then rigorously screened, resulting in 168 relevant documents for analysis. Analysis was performed using VOSviewer 1.6.20, focusing on publication and citation trend analysis, keyword co-occurrence, and collaboration networks of authors and institutions. The results indicate a dominance of contributions from developed countries (the United States, England, China), followed by increasing participation from developing countries like Indonesia. Major research clusters include working memory, mathematics anxiety, problem solving, and the integration of machine learning and gamification. Practically, this mapping provides a foundation for curriculum developers and educators to design technology-based adaptive learning interventions, while also fostering international collaboration to address the global mathematics literacy gap

Policy Strategy To Optimize Corporate Social And Environmental Responsibility Implementation In Buleleng Regency

    Get PDF
This policy paper discusses strategies for optimizing the implementation of Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSR) in Buleleng Regency, which has not yet been implemented effectively. Of the 1,421 registered companies, only 7.67 percent have implemented CSR. This situation is caused by weak coordination among stakeholders due to the lack of technical guidelines (juknis) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for CSR implementation. The research used a qualitative descriptive approach through interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and document studies. The analysis was conducted with reference to institutional theory (Scott, 2001), stakeholder theory (Freeman, 1984), and the principles of good governance (UNDP, 1997). Three policy alternatives are proposed: (1) strengthening the CSR Forum through the development of articles of association (AD/ART), (2) developing and establishing CSR Technical Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and (3) developing a digital-based CSR information system. Based on the assessment using the Bardach (2012) method for the criteria of effectiveness, efficiency, political feasibility, sustainability and public acceptability, the second alternative obtained the highest score (23). This policy is considered the most strategic because it clarifies coordination mechanisms, increases legal certainty, and serves as a foundation for strengthening forums and digitizing the system in the future. Implementation of this policy is expected to achieve more transparent, measurable, and sustainable CSR governance, as well as strengthen synergy between local governments, businesses, and communities for inclusive and equitable development in Buleleng Regency

Vocabulary mastery plays a very important role in the ability to communicate in spoken dan written English skills. Effective vocabulary learning can improve students’ language skills, allowing them to use foreign languages with greater confidence and fluency in a variety of communication situations. However, in English language learning, students often experience difficulties in remembering and memorizing vocabulary. Therefore, it is important to integrate technology and interactive learning media in the English learning process. This approach is expected to provide a more flexible, effective, and enjoyable experience for students. This study aims to find out how students perceive the use of Wordwall in learning English vocabulary. The study involved 15 grade 4 and 5 students from Ban Loei Wangsai School, Thailand. By using a qualitative approach and interview as the main instrument, this research was conducted. The interview results showed that the students feel that learning using Wordwall is fun and helps them remember vocabulary more easily. Wordwall also proved to be able to increase their motivation and interest in learning English. These findings provide a clear picture of the effectiveness of Wordwall in supporting English language learning, especially in terms of vocabulary acquisition, and encourage the use of interactive media in the primary school context. This study implies that English teachers need to be creative in their classroom instruction including giving variation in the learning through the implementation of digital applicatio

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using word cards in increasing the vocabulary of Grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 3 Sausu. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving two classes: Class VIII A, consisting of 21 students, served as the experimental class, while class VIII B, with 20 students, served as the control class. The experimental class received instruction using word cards as the treatment, whereas the control class was taught using conventional teaching methods. The samples were selected through total sampling. The study was conducted through a series of procedures, including a pre-test, the treatment, and a post-test. Data were collected using tests, and quantitative analysis was performed to compare students’ scores before and after the treatment. The results indicated a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores. At a significance level of 0.05, the t-count was 6.62, exceeding the t-table value of 1.68, indicating that the research hypothesis was accepted. These findings demonstrate that the use of word cards is an effective strategy for improving the vocabulary of Grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 3 Sausu. Moreover, the results suggest that word cards positively influence students’ vocabulary retention, as they facilitate better memorization and recall of target words during the learning process as instructional media. However, this study was limited by its relatively small sample size and its focus on concrete nouns and descriptive adjectives. Future research is recommended to involve larger and more diverse samples, as well as a broader range of vocabulary categories, in order to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the effectiveness of word cards in language learning

    Get PDF
Adolescent mental health needs in schools are rising, yet the global research landscape of Brief Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (Brief CBT) in secondary education is underexplored. A bibliometric analysis of 52 Scopus-indexed publications was conducted using VOSviewer to map trends, thematic clusters, and key contributors. Publications increased steadily over the past decade, peaking after 2020. A shift was observed from individual, clinic-based therapy to school-integrated approaches, including classroom sessions, group formats, digital tools, mindfulness strategies, and peer facilitation. Four thematic clusters emerged: adolescent emotional health, preventive strategies, coping skills, and culturally adapted programmes. Research gaps remain in family engagement, teacher-led delivery, and long-term culturally responsive models, especially in Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. This study provides a roadmap for advancing Brief CBT in schools, positioning it as a scalable, accessible, and sustainable component of global school-based mental health systems
